Is Mitch Marner the 2nd best RW in the game, right behind Kucherov?

In a way I think it does - it hightens the expectations, at least to me

Patriotic?

I thought Marner's been playing with "the league best goalscorer" for a few years now, at least according to all the threads on this board the last 3 years.

Nope, but to me, it's a difference to at least contribute and get through some stages in the playoffs compared to always choking and not winning a series in your whole career.
Blaming Marner solely for that is a bit disingenuous.

Gilmour
Mogilny
Sundin
Sitter
Lanny
Salming
Wendyl

All ahead off the nifty Marner
I'd bet a lot Marner finishes his career better then everyone on this list and I love every player you listed. I believe this for Matthews as well if he extends long term.

Stats may be higher after career, but Gilmour excelled at play off time. Marner disappears.
Until he does it at play off time....Dougy and Salming are the leafs MVPs .

I meant to have Matthews on that list. Just added #34

Hence the after his career is finished part. I mean he is still very young and it can take time to mature and round out every facet of their game. Hes to good on both sides of the puck not to figure it out because it certainly isn't a lack of effort issue.

Nice prediction.
But until he does it .....

The boring answer is that there is a top elite tier of 3 or 4 RWs, that are interchangeable and he's in there

Rantanen and Pasta are better players. He's right behind them and beside the breadman. Top 5.
Last 3 seasons

1. Marner - 1.27 PPG
2. Rantanen - 1.27 PPG

3. Pastrnak - 1.11 PPG

I'll give Rantanen the edge here because of the playoffs (although Marner has a better career PPG) but Pasta is a clear 3rd imo.

If you're asking who has the better regular season ppg he's ahead of pasta, but pasta has been scoring at a 47 goal rate since 2018. He's quite easily the better overall player.

Pasta is better then Marner overall because he scores more goals? What about the fact Marner creates more goals with his primary assists? By your logic Matthews is better then McDavid over the last 2 years because he scores more goals. This argument doesn't make sense.

No, that's not what I said. He is a better goal scorer and that's one reason why he's the better player. Pasta is also better defensively and shows up in the playoffs. Both players are in the same realm of expected points as well.

Matthews has been nowhere near mcdavid's ppg for the entirety of their careers. Matthews has only had 2 years where he's put up more points than McDavid has had assists. I hope you can see how terrible that analogy was.

Crazy that by 29 he may surpass every single Leaf player for points.

Toronto teams have won championships before and that never happened, so no.

Picture of a brand new car waiting to be tipped over the last time the Leafs won the Stanley Cup.

He actually isn't better defensively. Want to try again, lol?

Is he really though? He seems like he is easily intimidated by physical contact. I don't think Stone can be pushed around.
I think people are talking about great positioning stick placement and shot blocking when it comes to Marner's defense. Blocking a shot is a lot tougher than making a hit.

Leafs fan and I would probably take Rantanen or Pasta over Marner, but it's very close. The only reasoning is that Marner's game has such a complex rhythm to it that he's prone to slumps. It's why he always starts the season slow and seems to have trouble when the game changes come playoffs (last year was better). When he's firing on all cylinders he's the best of the 3, maybe even better than Kuch, but he is a high maintenaince player who needs to feel comfortable to shine. I think he would eventually become dominant in an extended playoff run if they can get one rolling.
Feeling comfortable can literally be said about any player.

Pasta lost a child. You all keep ignoring that when picking these time frames.

I’ll concede that Marner has outperformed Pasta when they are in a weird covid season and when Pasta’s child dies.

Outside of that it’s been Pasta. Like this season, while not playing with Bergeron and Marchand. He has twice as many goals and 4 more points in less games played than Marner even with Marners crazy point streak.
I think you just like saying the name Pasta and that is why you put him over Marner.
The playoffs doesn't matter, we're talking about the most skilled players in the regular season here, not overall, duh
Overall Marner is the most skilled player, due to his performance on the penalty kill.
