Is Mitch Marner the 2nd best RW in the game, right behind Kucherov?

lol the people who hate/underrate Marner the most are Leafs fans, not his fault Matthews and Tavares(who he outperformed) got a fat contracts which easily set the bar for his agent.

It's incredible how insecure and defensive some Leaf fans get when you say there's a player or two better than one of their guys.

It's also hilarious how when calling Matthews the #2 player in the NHL, some Leaf fans bring up "well, he scores more goals" but when Pastrnak completely dummies Marner in goal scoring it's "well, Marner gets more points!"
Almost every 2nd post on the currently last page of this thread was made by you, and you call other people insecure and defensive... that's pretty funny.

Rantanen has been great in the playoffs while Pastrnak isn't that far behind with 30g 44a in 70gp in the playoffs. Not shabby. He also has a Rocket and 4th place in Hart voting.
If people prefer Marner that's fine. He's an amazing talent. I'd take Rantanen and Pastrnak over him but... whatever.

Outproduces him every season.
Kirill I can see
By "outproduces him" you mean, "ignoring the postseason Marner scored more points" don't you?

Combined regular season+playoffs Raanta outproduces Marner. So again, why is Marner the better player?
Or are we completelly ignoring the postseason when comparing players?

This playoffs will be where Marner and Matthews turn the page and overcome their playoff woes.
Why would this year be different? He’s very talented and at 9 M I would take him on my team but when it’s 5x5 in playoffs and he’s got a bullseye on his back it’s tough to continually go to dirty areas

If the Leafs can avoid Boston in round 1 I could see them winning round 1

Where the Leafs got hosed was 2020. They would have hammered the banged up sinking Bolts in round 1 and the winner of Boston & Toronto likely win the Cup

63g vs. 39g

If his contract was different he’d be viewed different.

When him and AM split up this year, AM’s production suffered. His did not. He’s also not the production of anyone for all the people trying to push this narrative.

AMs production hasnt suffered without Marner this year..

The 2019-2020 Leafs? That team just wasn't very good, especially defensively. Tampa would have eaten us alive

Where we probably got hosed was last year tbh. Toronto-Tampa in round 1 was ECF level hockey where it took Tampa pulling a rabbit out of their ass to win (A 5 on 3 in game 6 off a dive are you f***ing kidding me). Any other matchup would've been better for us

We've beaten Boston in our lone meeting so far.

Are you trying to say that you can’t use playoff stats because Marner has played less games?

Would playoff points per game be okay?
How could you do PPG for playoff numbers?

It goes to me saying its a flawed stat because of games played.

You take the number of points a player puts up and divide it by the amount of games played.

rantanen > marner obviously but i could see the case for marner > pasta. personally id have a hard time choosing but probably take pasta.

Comes down to team building probably. If you have a high end scorer at C or on the LW then Marner might fit better there. If you don't then you probably want Pasta.

for me it comes down to playoffs. pasta is more clutch. but i wouldnt fault someone for taking marner.

Yeah I'd personally go Kuch, Rants, Pasta, Marner. Marner just hasn't stepped up in the playoff enough yet and in some cases has even been detremental.

Although if you want playoff clutch then Patty Kane is still up there. I think if he gets traded to a contender this TDL we will see him take off again.

Heck Nylander has arguably been better for TO than Marner has in the playoffs.

In the playoffs vs Boston Leafs will be huge underdogs - what happened in October and March will mean squat

there isn't a team in existence that the Leafs would be "huge underdogs" against in the playoffs. They're a top 5 team and currently playing more like a top 2 team - missing their best 3 defencemen.

You can probably make the argument, but I would still pick Rantanen and Pasta before him. Both score more goals, have playoff pedigree, and play a beat meaner game (especially Rantanen). But Mitch is a supreme talent no doubt. And he did have a good round against Tampa last spring so we'll see if he can build on top of that.

They got 2 years to win before Matthews leaves

Their window is closing
