Easily, more people watch, more sponsors. I didn't give a damn about skills competition and this weekend, but after everyone started complaining about Kucherov, I decided to watch, to find out what the hell happend. I suppose I'm not the only one who did this.

It's an action that put eyeballs on the event now but could have a negative impact moving forward, and that's not good for the game or the event. If the players are going to behave like this why would people continue to watch moving forward?

As a parent who would be excited to take their kid to an ASG it's really disappointing to see. Not sure I could justify spending the money to take them if that's what we'd be seeing. It's not a behavior I'd ever want them to emulate.

When the players just embrace the experience it's way better overall.

The fact that after winning the cup he still had to go after the Habs fanbase for getting excited about winning game 4, tells me he is your classic "too cool for school" sad sack.

Doesn't want to try in All-Star game because he's just sooo aloof. Give me a break.

Kuch was still 10 x times faster than what Tavares would have offered had he competed and tried his hardest.

I wouldn't pay good money to attend an all star weekend. I'd love to attend one but players don't take it seriously so you will never see full effort in the games.

I don't get the cash prizes. Giving multi-millionaire hockey players more money makes no sense. Make it for charity of their choice and it would be more appealling.
The other players were taking it seriously. Guys were gassed on the 1-1 event.

If the ASG was in Tampa again this year, there's no way Kucherov dogs it. I think a big reason why he dogged it was because he's in Toronto and he doesn't like the Leafs.

But honestly Bedard should have taken Kucherovs spot yesterday. I was dissapointed to see that Bedard was in no competitions.
Who cares that it's in Toronto? What a bad excuse if that's what he was thinking.

True but Kucherov is the NHL point leader right now. Winning the Art Ross (and likely putting up career highs) is likely what he cares about right now and isnt going to risk pulling a muscle in the skills comp.

Such high hockey IQ, yet can’t see ahead to anticipate the ramifications of his too cool for school attitude.

Voters already wanted to give MacKinnon the Hart and right or wrong, stunts like this will only make it easier.

I'm kind of neutral on what he did here. Yes "for the kids" is always a valid argument against, but I mean I haven't watched an all star game in years because of how boring and stupid they are. Really just a waste of time to tune in.

Your bias is showing if you think players trying to make the all star weekend somehow competitive is a bad thing.
It'll be fun seeing Mackinnon screaming at his teammates to pickup the pace in the main event game.

He should be free to choose whether he should go to the ASG or not. Fining/suspending him for not wanting to be present is also incredibly selfish. Maybe he prefers to be with his kids and family instead of entertaining you and your kids. He's just demonstrating that he doesn't agree with it and it's good, maybe he'll have an alternative where he won't be forced to lose in the future. Tell that part to your kids as well.

Kids have a chance to see these players at least 82 times a season. On TV or half the time at the arena or at least a few times every season. No need to act hurt just because your little party got destroyed..

You watched the whole event rather than a 20 second clip?
