We have an over the top policy where no one is allowed to say anything about any injury ever. McDonagh violated the policy.

Why can't Torts just tell McD in private that he shouldn't have said anything? Everything this egomaniac does is through the media. No need for that.

Players should know this by now. Probably from Torts telling them behind closed doors. McD should know better.

That question was likely the first time Torts realized that McD gave that quote. Is it really a big deal that he said that a player shouldn't violate a team rule?

Meh. It's not like Staal's injury is some sort of secret. It's pretty well documented that he's had up and down days

As long as McDonagh keeps putting Ovechkin in a box he can do whatever he wants.

This.

I said it when the series started, I'm not worried about Ovechkin with McDonagh defending on his side of the ice. I love what Girardi did last year when Ovechkin was a LW, but McDonagh has taken it to another level. He has shutdown a player who had scored a goal per game in his last 30 games, and has kept him to only a goal and an assist in four games. He has three shots in his past two games, and is a -2.

It's worth mentioning that Tortorellas tone of voice, which we don't know, would dictate whether or not this was really ridiculous.

All I'm saying is that he can tell McDonagh in private.

Besides, everyone knows Staal has an eye injury. It's not like this is some big secret.

On Thursday, Coach John Tortorella declined to answer a question about whether Staal would return to play during the series. When asked about McDonagh’s comments about Staal, Tortorella said: “Mac should shut up. It’s none of his business.â€

The Rangers had a camera at practice on Tuesday. Sam Rosen and Jim Cerny were discussing game 3. Torts was on the ice and he was talking to Staal in the corner. Looking back at that today, they were probably discussing how he felt in game 3. Staal skated on Wednesday morning. Eminger skated too.

Just thinking out loud here but what if it was not the eye that he was uncomfortable with. He took a really big hit in the corner in the begining of the game. Dare i say what if he started getting head aches the following day. MCD's comments might be to throw everyone off that he was not comfortable with his eye and maybe he has another concussion! I mean he did not skate at all today at practice, he could have at least went out for a conditioning skate with the eye issue.

Sounds a bit conspiracyish to me, more likely, as he said, it's a bad day for his vision, he has good days and bad ones as we know. He got hit in game 3, but he seemed to bounce back quite well, and didn't look like he was playing injured, usually with a concussion it's pretty obvious that somethings not right.

McD SHOULD shut up. We don't want anyone in the league knowing Staal has an eye injury. He could be targeted; and we don't want that.

Not really. I mean he played a few games before he was out with his concussion the last time.
