How many potential candidates do you think would refuse the job knowing they will have the corpses of Price and Weber eating up a chunk of a flat cap for the duration of their contract as GM? Even if they go on LTIR, you still cannot accumulate cap space during the season, and will wind up having to use picks and prospects to get a 3rd team to retain salary on any players you wish to acquire during the season. Bergevin effectively handcuffed any incoming replacement for himself.

Molson's going to have to do something if anything just for optics, either he replaces himself,Bergeven,or will allow him to make drastic changes to please the fan base.Who in their right mind would pay to see this crap, oh wait maybe they can come up with a special 12 game beginning of season package before everything falls apart as usual.:surrender

If Bergevin is Fired will the next Gm be allowed to make a full rebuild that's the major question. Bcz maybe it's Molson that's saying no to a full rebuild.

It looks like it cost a 4th round pick for a 3rd team to retain 25% of the salary of a player at the deadline (For David Savard and Nick Foligno, who had salary between 4 and 5,5 m). And that, in a year where cap space was even more valuable than other years. While it is not ideal to give 4th round picks for that, and it would be better to be able to accumulate cap space, I don't think that would really be a problem. The next GM will face much greater problems than that

Given there isn't a very solid list of candidates, try offering a shit ton of money to BriseBois to come.

Given BriseBois likely isn't going anywhere, Luongo would seem like not a bad option given he seems like a bright guy and isn't far removed from the league. Given his inexperience, it would be wise to hire an experienced hockey person as president.. even Dale Tallon, just someone who isn't Molson.

Habs need a true hockey mind, Roy is not that

He's what then ? Yes they are maybe risk (I mean do we really know ? it's not like if he's acting with emotion as GM in the Q) but it will make different to have GM that will go for it when we have a chance to win and won't get a Martinson/King/Weal/Flynn to help us take an other level.

Of course is there is way to bring Brisebois you do it but I don't think it's a real possibility. For Luongo, I think he doesn't have enough experience yet.

"[G]oing for it" (using deadline acquisitions as an example) is not even close to being where Bergevin went wrong.

There has never been a team that became a contender because of a deadline deal. In fact, one of the better buyer deadline deals that lead to a long term benefit to the the acquiring team was the Petry deal.

Not only TDL deal but Offseason deal to. STL did it by acquiring ROR/Schenn/Perron, they where not scare to sacrifice pick/prospect to get what they needed to win. That's what I want, the winning attitude

Pierre McGuire is a circus entertainer, Roy is a serious option.
Not one organization outside Habs would even consider him to clean their toilets.

With all the hedge fund managers entering ownership via US based teams, the game is shifting to Dubas type GMs....it’s a matter of when not if, unless ownership miraculously reverts to old school industrial revolution types. The NHL is firmly an American run business now so that reversion is highly unlikely

The Habs have a choice to make, think outside the box and be prepared for the revolution that’s approaching at high speed, or be left further behind which may take a generation to catch up....

This list is so bad that I thought that Norman Flynn would be included as an option.

When "Other (Name it)" is your top option and can't come up with anyone (for whatever reason, i.e. desired candidate beholden to another org. or whatever), then you know the best solution would be to have ownership change hands first.

If the Nordiques were coming back, Roy would be their GM and the Nords would kick @SS the Habs to a point that it wouldn't be funny and you know it.

We're talking about the same Patrick Roy here, right? The guy who was HC and VP of Hockey Ops with a garbage Avs team and decided to quit when the team shifted towards modern decision making that lead to where they are now because he didn't like that they shifted directions and stopped listening to him?

The guy that is still a HC and GM because he likes control?

If it was 2002, Roy would be a great GM. But if it was 2002, Bergevin would be a great GM too.

Another poster said that he have changed and adapted to the new reality.
But compared to Pierre McGuire, it's better keep Bergevin for god sake!
