If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

Looks like Woll/Kallgren are 2-3.

If thats the case they are going after proven here. Gibson or Keumper.

Ugh - be better off with Hutch. He's just blowing his KD smoke, like "I have faith in Mrazek" or whatever it was he said. There is no way he goes into the season with either of that shakey duo as backup unless the start can play 70 games. No benefit to letting his options know what he is really hoping for. They will add a vet somehow.

I wonder if Gibson benefits from playing on the west coast so nobody actually stays up to watch him? He's got out of the first round once, so he has that going for him over Dubas.

If he somehow find back I think everyone can respect how hutch keeps surviving dude is a zombie

I'm fine with this philosophy at this point tbh. We're most likely good enough to make the playoffs anyways and with our cap I'd rather have a 1 and bottom tier 2 then have 2 bottom tier 1s

Can cross holtby off the list
He may not even play next season
Edit: not tweet screen capped from reddit.

I watch him for fantasy league purposes sometimes and the athleticism and positioning are top notch but when things go off the rails they really get messy. He’s sort of the anti Campbell in the sense that he’ll throw death stares and pull himself out of games.

Seems like better ceiling worse floor which might be what you need in playoff time

But they are better than Campbell that's what counts
Everybody is better than 2022 Campbell. The issue is, is he the 30 games in 2022 guy or the 150 games prior to that? I am not entirely clear on why he crumbled like he did but I tend to think 2022 was an aberration. He will want value and term based on that being the case and the club can't afford to make that commitment based on his collapse. I think that's where the club's puny starting number came from and in the current goalie market under $4M is not even a starting point for him.

If they bet on Jack, what could they pay him and still afford some kind of a 1b if he nosedived again? Could they afford a $7M tandem? $6M? Holtby and Blackwood? Talbot and Holtby? Varlamov and ? If Jack is stuck at $5M I am comfortable with him walking but who knows what the Doob is cooking?

Not only are the Toronto Maple Leafs involved in talks with the Senators about Murray, it’s believed the Edmonton Oilers may be studying the option along with the Arizona Coyotes and a couple of other teams.

While Murray turned down a trade that was done to the Buffalo Sabres Wednesday night, that doesn’t guarantee he’ll be back at training camp in September. Dorion is trying to get creative to clear up the crowded crease with Anton Forsberg and Filip Gustavsson under contract.

Talks intensified during Round 2 of the draft Friday and don’t rule out a deal before the unrestricted free agent market opens Wednesday at noon. Murray still has two years at $6.25 million left on his deal but the Senators might be willing to retain some salary.

“Those conversations are taking place and they continue to take place,” assistant GM Trent Mann said Friday. “There’s interest out there and I think we have to explore all the options and do what’s best for the Ottawa Senators and do what’s best for the (club) moving forward.

“In the end, it’s a business and that’s the situation we’re in. It’s not like Matt doesn’t know it. He’s aware and we’re aware. Eventually if there’s a deal there that helps the Senators, and gives him a different opportunity, then there’s no reason not to do that.”

Naturally, Buffalo GM Kevyn Adams wasn’t thrilled that Murray turned his nose up at the Sabres.

“I don’t want to get too much into specifics,” Adams said. “The reality is we worked hard on a deal, but players have the ability when it’s in their contract to make those decisions. And we want players who want to be here. That’s the way we believe, so we move on.”

The Senators are also still looking for a right-shot defenceman while Dorion also has to determine what do with veteran blueliner Nikita Zaitsev and winger Connor Brown. Both are candidates to be dealt.

Sens are about to be the big winner of the draft if they can get rid of him with 0 retention

Hard to say what Gibson’s head space is like in a high pressure playoff game since he’s been on a rebuilder all these years.

Hopefully it would get him to dial in

My thought is a lot of that is related to the team the past few years. I don't recall those antics when the team was playing well years back

Jack played 49gms last year. Nine came after returning from injury at the end of the year. If we divvy up the rest into even 8gm segments:

1st 8: .929
2nd 8: .955
3rd 8: .931
4th 8: .880
5th 8: .872
Last 9: .915 (.922 aside from the game he came in as a backup vs FLA)

Yes, Dubas is building a great team to lose in 7 games to Tampa with next year. I know that the goaltending options are not plentiful, but he is still really planning on running the same team back.

As long as they can finish with 115 points or more, they will let him run in back again. I mean how do you fire a GM that sets a franchise regular season record and plays 3D chess while other GMs are still playing checkers??

Mid season slump around the injury/schedule but he's definitely a useable guy

He's not the worst option of all time.. definitely will hurt a bit if we have to pay him 3x5 considering I think we could have gotten him cheaper

Probably when they get tired of winning the battle but losing the war. Or when Matthews gets tired of never seeing the second round and walks leaving the franchise not able to set records any longer...one or the other.

We can relax, the Leafs aren't getting Murray. A buddy emailed me a link to Eklund's site today and that pathetic plug has declared Murray to the Leafs as an E4. Since he has no clue what he's talking about and is always wrong, we can relax.

If the Leafs don't sign someone in free agency, and it is looking increasingly likely that they won't, whoa re the legitimate trade targets. There is Gibson and Murray has been discussed the last few days, but who else is a legit trade target?

As a 1A type of goalie (with a 1B that Mrazek was supposed to be), he had a pretty solid season. That soft portion of the season should have been when the 1B took on more responsibilities. This is where the discussion of salary comes in play. Did Campbell prove himself to be a 50+ starter last season? It seemed to be too much of a load for him physically and perhaps mentally. I think I'm in agreement with Dubas that money would need to be withheld for another goalie if Campbell were re-signed because he needs more than an occasional backup type.

At this point I'd be wondering what Vancouver would want for Halak. He's played for every other damned team, why not the Leafs?

Whose that goalie from Columbus that stoned us a few years ago in the playoffs? How has his career gone since? Didn’t they have two very good goalies?
