If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

I wouldn't touch Keumper. The report is that he needed eye procedures everyday because he could barely see in the finals. If this is a recurring thing....he's done.

I would go big or go home.

He wasn't even that good in the PO's. Pretty sure he would soon become a regret. Really I only see Gibson as the best option ATM.

Holtby and Jack or Holtby and Blackwood. I still like Kuemper but not sure for what he would cost.

Grubauer may be getable after being fed to the Kraken this season and I have more faith in him then in Campbell, Kuemper, or Fleury. Sandin + ? Seattle needs to at least make an effort at Bedard/Michkov and that starts with finding their long term goalie solution in 2023 and giving up this years :)

Contingent on the money it’s far from the worst situation.

Georgiev and Vanicek aren’t as good as he is.

Blackwood is a big wildcard.

Talbot is inconsistent and seems like a giant baby.

Kuemper will cost 25% more and is older but is he really 25% better?

Gibson? He’ll cost Willy, but no way straight up, Anna needs to chuck in a big plus.

I wouldn’t be upset if Jack took 4.5/3.

I would have run it back with a new coach but it is what it is. First half Soup is fine but doubt he accepts anything under 5. There are better more expensive option. There are also cheaper, riskier options. Everybody has a choice. I am on the go cheap and use the left over money to load up the forward lines. You could add a goalie at the TDL if need be,

That's interesting to say the least, I hadn't heard that. Link?

Gotta say, there is no gimme as a good tender. Look at Kuemper and Vasi in the playoffs.....really there is no real surefire answer anywhere IMO.

At this point which teams actually need a #1 and would be willing/able to offer a 5 to 6 per year deal?

Leafs
Oilers
Sabres
Caps (maybe)

Anyone else?

Possibly devils still depending on what they consider vanecheck to be

That would open up blackwood obviously

Too many teams need goalies and not enough goalies. With limited cap space and not much to give up in the way of assets I think the leafs are going to get the short end of the stick.

Are they your only options ?? Soup is a viable option at the right price. Would I run back Soup and Woll/Kalgren ?? Probably not.
I've always said that regardless of all the whining about how much Soup sucks, he may be the best option. It sounded like you were mocking that idea with the "run it all back" comment which sounded like yet another sarcastic shot at Dubas, my apologies if I misunderstood.

The right price - I think that ship has sailed and we'll be paying through the nose no matter who we end up with.

I 100% agree with you that he is the best option. Hopefully he wants to resign

I have concerns about doing any big money long term contract with Campbell. He’s shown he is mentally weak and in a market like Toronto with a potential big contract he needs to be tough.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying he's the best option, just that it made no sense for people to crap all over him and want to fire him into the sun because he let in a softie at a bad time. My stance has always been that we should get the best goalie we possibly can and don't kid yourself, that may well end up being Campbell and if that is the best option, why the hell would we not do that?

At this point the options are dwindling so IMO I would rather have him than Kuemper and the only other options are a trade. Not sure who's available other than maybe Gibson and I don't know enough about him to have a strong opinion other than to say that if he is deemed to be a better option than Campbell, I'd be willing to pay a lot for him.

Thanks, that very interesting, I had no idea. Sounds like he could be a very risky proposition indeed!

LOL Kadri - broken thump. Too bad he didn't have a broken thump when he was with us or maybe he would have been allowed to play for us. ;)

Why would NJ part with Blackwood? Is there some backstory.

He’s young and pretty good and projects to be a #1 goalie. If they ever become good again they’ll be looking for a guy like him. With all their cap space it‘s OK to have two really good goalies.

Absolutely and he could turn out to be great! I've always liked Jack and wanted to extend him last summer. He's a gamble but you could say that about every damn goalie on the planet besides Vasi. I believe we need to pick someone and bet on him. Decide who we want to gamble on as opposed to starting the season with a bunch of crap in goal and gambling that a good option will appear during the season. And if we have to overpay a million or two to get it done then do it but get it done FFS.

Not happy at all about where where at right now and if we don't have a guy in place within the first day of free agency, I will be much more unhappy than I am right now.
