Post-Game Talk: Ice bird

This game pissed me off from the very first call.

I think it was kulikov? Blatantly interferes with goodrow, went down, penalty on us. f***ing garbage.

Not to mention Kreider getting 2 minutes for getting mugged in that scrum on the pp, the missed cross check on Chytil on that same pp, etc

It’s every f***ing game against this team. I sincerely hope something happens and Crosby, Malkin and Letang never play another game and this team moves to Houston after they can’t pay people to come to games.

New generation of players and fans who know the post game media availability is complete nonsense. 10 years ago Larry and Vince might have had people go to bat for them on this issue but not in 2023. Even when the players are available the reporters ask garbage questions anyway so I have no problem with doing away with the entire routine altogether. Designate one or two guys and the coach to be available after games and that's it.
I prefer they didn't go back to the Covid era of postgame with the whole you'll take what we give you and like it.

Can you admit he's playing well at times & also playing really bad at times? Sure he's putting up points, but he's also a turnover machine who's playing extremely selfishly.

I have no interest in going back & forth with this, but you're acting like the Panarin criticism is completely unjustified when it's actually pretty valid.
I mean look, I don't think he's quite as good as he was with the Blue Jackets and his first year with the Rangers, but he's also 31 and not 27 or 28 anymore. I know it doesn't seem like that big of a deal but this is when guys start to decline. He's still the best forward on the team, he's still an elite playmaker in transition. There's probably more turnovers than we'd like and his shot isn't quite what it was which sucks. But I do think he's become a bit of a scapegoat when he hasn't deserved it.

Am I crazy or is Pittsburgh's biggest weakness the physical aspects of the game? Seems like once Trouba made the big dick play and we started playing with some force their knees buckled.
Why we can't start every game like that? We constantly dig ourselves a hole and it's only when we eventually get angry and aggressive, that we begin to play somewhat coherently.

just about every other team right now is playing playoff Hockey, especially in the East. This group needs to really wake the f*** up and realize it's already "playoff time" otherwise they will continue to sink themselves further and be out of order when the yoffs do start. I pray they find their stride soon, I really do

I'm still pretty convinced we actually want to swap spots with Pittsburgh and play the Canes in round one. Neither would be an easy series, but I think they are a better match up for us than the Devils.

Also, not to harp on the kids as there are issues everywhere, but the 3 amigoes managed a whopping 1 shot and 2 hits between them...
The karma with that is NJ overtaking Carolina and winning the division

I've been critical of him when it's justified. I've also lauded him when he earns it.

He might have moved into board scapegoat territory, but I also think there's a lot to his game that he can work on to reduce the lazy turnovers while still being productive. Part of the frustration stems from the fact that expectations are sky high now & he's an 11.5M player that doesn't seem to strike fear into other teams. He also seems to have completely lost the ability to snipe his one timers.

It's almost as simple as keeping his head up and looking. He's barely looking when he makes some of those passes.

Which is exactly what happened in the playoffs when trouba blew up Crosby

You're absolutely right.

I feel like this fanbase is somewhat conditioned to be offended by skill by this f***ing organization that's mostly offended by skill. Either that, or we've been so deprived of it over the years that we expect these guys to be perfect and never make sacrifices to put up 90-100 points.

Yeah, he does do annoying things sometimes. Every good player prioritizes offense and as I've said ad nauseum, the list of elite scorers who are good defensively is like four guys.

Frankly, Panarin has the puck so much that his defensive analytics are actually solid.

People want a unicorn. Who's a 90+ point scorer who's good defensively, physical, high-effort all the time, and doesn't make mistakes? Bergeron doesn't put up those kinds of totals. Malkin has all the qualities but doesn't always have the effort. McDavid is low-key excellent defensively and is probably the closest but he does get caught up ice. Ovechkin is a an AHL player in his own zone. Maybe Crosby who is a top ten player all-time? Maybe Matt Tkachuk this year? There you go, there's two perfect players in the NHL.

Yeah, I wish we could trade Panarin for Tkachuk. I also wish it was 78 degrees in January.
Actually, for $11.6mm, I think people want a player that will consistently make others around him better. Not a player we have to throw the lines in a blender for or acquire two friendly high end W talents to try and find a proper fit.

Panarain will put up pts and have solid analytics bc he is an amazing individual hockey talent. He is also rigid in his style and one dimensional, which leads to dazzling inconsistency for such a highly paid player. Therefore, it is very plausible he wont necessarily fit that well on every team, and he wouldn’t be the first high end talent like that. This is why there are elite regular season talents that rise to occasion when games get extremely tight and others that tend to fade. Unfortunately, I feel Panarin is trending in the latter camp.

As a card carrying optimist even I can admit Panarin has been horseshit recently. He needs an intervention from Mika Kreider and Trouba

Can someone explain why Larry is complaining that Halak didn’t meet the media after the game? Honestly who cares?

Really did well to get a point, especially after the refs wanted to put us down 3-0 early

I have no idea how we got a point out of this game. We were complete ass. We can't get the puck out of our zone.

We played pretty well after we tied the game. Lazy penalty in OT but what can ya do.

Finally figured out the lines in the third.

Also thinking getting Kane was a mistake... He can't skate anymore. Hoping more time with Mika and Kreider will change things.

Tarasenko looks really good,he was a good pickup.

And the defense will look better once Lindgren is back, as it always does. At least Mikkola can play decent though.

Thought mikkola was really good again today frankly

Schneider is the one that has me shaking my head. But it’s more just blatant head scratching mistakes that are driving me nuts from the likes of Fox and Miller. That pinch Miller makes with 45 secs on the clock? Crazy
