After a decent sample, this has gone as expected.
I was guilty of suggesting that maybe Panarin was the class clown on that line. I was wrong.
Can vouch for that. lol.

I prefer they didn't go back to the Covid era of postgame with the whole you'll take what we give you and like it.New generation of players and fans who know the post game media availability is complete nonsense. 10 years ago Larry and Vince might have had people go to bat for them on this issue but not in 2023. Even when the players are available the reporters ask garbage questions anyway so I have no problem with doing away with the entire routine altogether. Designate one or two guys and the coach to be available after games and that's it.
I mean look, I don't think he's quite as good as he was with the Blue Jackets and his first year with the Rangers, but he's also 31 and not 27 or 28 anymore. I know it doesn't seem like that big of a deal but this is when guys start to decline. He's still the best forward on the team, he's still an elite playmaker in transition. There's probably more turnovers than we'd like and his shot isn't quite what it was which sucks. But I do think he's become a bit of a scapegoat when he hasn't deserved it.Can you admit he's playing well at times & also playing really bad at times? Sure he's putting up points, but he's also a turnover machine who's playing extremely selfishly.
I have no interest in going back & forth with this, but you're acting like the Panarin criticism is completely unjustified when it's actually pretty valid.

They should let the fans run a practice once a season, and you should run it.PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
every day in between games, there needs to be a purposeful practice
The karma with that is NJ overtaking Carolina and winning the divisionI'm still pretty convinced we actually want to swap spots with Pittsburgh and play the Canes in round one. Neither would be an easy series, but I think they are a better match up for us than the Devils.
Also, not to harp on the kids as there are issues everywhere, but the 3 amigoes managed a whopping 1 shot and 2 hits between them...
I've been critical of him when it's justified. I've also lauded him when he earns it.I mean look, I don't think he's quite as good as he was with the Blue Jackets and his first year with the Rangers, but he's also 31 and not 27 or 28 anymore. We had zero answer for their forecheck & our D were really struggling with zone exits as a result. It wasn't pretty to say the least.I have no idea how we got a point out of this game. We were complete ass. We can't get the puck out of our zone.
Lol exactly. The karma with that is NJ overtaking Carolina and winning the division
It's almost as simple as keeping his head up and looking. He's barely looking when he makes some of those passes.I've been critical of him when it's justified. I've also lauded him when he earns it.
He might have moved into board scapegoat territory, but I also think there's a lot to his game that he can work on to reduce the lazy turnovers while still being productive. Part of the frustration stems from the fact that expectations are sky high now & he's an 11.5M player that doesn't seem to strike fear into other teams. He also seems to have completely lost the ability to snipe his one timers.
Am I crazy or is Pittsburgh's biggest weakness the physical aspects of the game? Seems like once Trouba made the big dick play and we started playing with some force their knees buckled.
Why we can't start every game like that? We constantly dig ourselves a hole and it's only when we eventually get angry and aggressive, that we begin to play somewhat coherently.
just about every other team right now is playing playoff Hockey, especially in the East. This group needs to really wake the f*** up and realize it's already "playoff time" otherwise they will continue to sink themselves further and be out of order when the yoffs do start. I pray they find their stride soon, I really do
Actually, for $11.6mm, I think people want a player that will consistently make others around him better. Not a player we have to throw the lines in a blender for or acquire two friendly high end W talents to try and find a proper fit. You're absolutely right.
I feel like this fanbase is somewhat conditioned to be offended by skill by this f***ing organization that's mostly offended by skill. Either that, or we've been so deprived of it over the years that we expect these guys to be perfect and never make sacrifices to put up 90-100 points.
Yeah, he does do annoying things sometimes. Every good player prioritizes offense and as I've said ad nauseum, the list of elite scorers who are good defensively is like four guys.
Frankly, Panarin has the puck so much that his defensive analytics are actually solid.
People want a unicorn. Who's a 90+ point scorer who's good defensively, physical, high-effort all the time, and doesn't make mistakes? Bergeron doesn't put up those kinds of totals. Malkin has all the qualities but doesn't always have the effort. McDavid is low-key excellent defensively and is probably the closest but he does get caught up ice. Ovechkin is a an AHL player in his own zone. Maybe Crosby who is a top ten player all-time? Maybe Matt Tkachuk this year? There you go, there's two perfect players in the NHL.
Yeah, I wish we could trade Panarin for Tkachuk. I also wish it was 78 degrees in January.
You're absolutely right.
