Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL)

I'll be pleasantly surprised if Demidov's better than Suzuki as early as next year.

That would mean a better rookie season than players like Tavares, Stamkos, Toews, and Matthews.
Let the false expectations begin. :)

Panarin and Kaprisov, as older rookies, produced around 77 points pace - like Suzuki last season.

They were well over a point per game in the K the season before. They had a lower TOI/G in the K. I expect the same with Demi, but it will be a huge hill to climb to match the production of the other 2 (and NS).

He’ll be fun to watch right out of the gate.

Demidov and Michkov are stylistically very far apart though. Demidov plays a far more complete game, and has a man’s build and strength. He’s far better tailored for a quick transition to the NHL than Michkov.

His potential for his rookie year is somewhere between Michkov and Celebrini this season, IMO.

I think 60 pts for Demidov is achievable next season.

60 is achievable, but I think Michkov is a fair barometer as they would both be coming to NA following a KHL season in their D+1 and both had highly successful KHL campaigns before coming over.

I prefer Demidov to Michkov for our team, but expectations wise, this is as clear a comparable as we could get.

I'd use Michkov's rookie season as a fair barometer for Demidov's impact next year. Anything above that 50 point threshold would be very impressive for a NA Rookie.
Personally i'm not building any expectations based on what's happening in another league.

I don't want to compare to other players, he's a total mystery to me beyond knowing his incredible skill level from highlights. I'm just cautioning against building a myth that he won't be able to live up too, because that invariably falls back on the player as though its HIS fault he's not meeting OUR expectations.

Not saying you specifically either.

I just think it's very dangerous to think that because he beat Player X U-19 scoring record in the KHL, that that = he's going to be better than Player X, Y and Z.

Well that's gonna happen regardless.

This board played violin on their wrists for two years because we passed on Michkov and then want to trade Slaf for a 2C while Michkov will likely finish his D+2 with the same point total that Slaf had last year in his D+2, while in a much more impressive physical package.

I know we’ve been hurt before and it’s hard to trust again… but it’s okay. This isn’t Scherbak / Avtsin, or even Galchenyuk / Kostitsyn. We can feel safe being excited about this one.

Nope. Panarin was at 15:59/game, Kaprizov was at 17:01.

Demidov is at 13:29.

Art Ross challenger, better than Suzuki as soon as next year.

Guys...we're doing it again....
Next year is pushing it but in his prime I'll be disappointed if he's not better than Suzuki , I mean if this kid isn't THE guy to do it (ppg+ top 15 scorer in the league) then we will never see a player do it in the blue blanc rouge in our lives and we are definitely cursed. Unbelievable prospect

He needs a solid passing center
Big hole to fill
KH has his work cut out for him

Draft Desnoyers and find a two-year plug with some offense in his game.

That second part SHOULD be do-able…’should.’

Rickard Rakell (pipe dream) would be great, but the asking price would likely be too high.

I'm super excited and the last thing I am is jaded.

Its just to me until it happens in the NHL, it doesn't mean as anything more than good feelings.

Agreed that it’s a fair barometer, I just think it’s fair to believe Demidov’s game is more tailored to the NHL than Michkov, and he’s got 2.5 inches on him and about 20lbs of mass and not afraid of traffic. That should lend to a more streamlined integration.

He won't get PP1 time off the bat like Michkov did, though. Michkov absolutely eats on the powerplay.
True, but he will be put on pp1 eventually (I think it will be quicker than it was for Hutson), and once he's there he will start scoring a lot of pp pts considering the talent there.

On pp2, he should still be able to score some pts. For a 2nd unit, Demidov - Dach - Newhook - Matheson - Heineman is pretty good talent.

Agreed on both points.

I agree with WTK that he won’t start on PP1, but unless Laine and Slaf get their head out of their ass there’s a possibility Demidov is either out there immediately or they’re given extremely short leashes there.
