Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL)

Some of you are overly aggressive on beating up on Mesar.

It's true that Mesar's underperformed, but we should want every prospect to succeed.

Mesar's a legitimate prospect who was picked close to his expected position.

And quite frankly the Habs middle six is not set. Dach is a question mark. Laine is a question mark. Roy is a question mark. Newhook is a question mark. Armia and Evans might be gone. There's room.

This isn’t the place to talk about Mesar, but let’s be honest: he was a legitimate prospect but he’s not anymore.

His production in the OHL was not great, given his draft position. His AHL production to date is also not great. For reference at the same age Plekanec was about .89ppg in the AHL in a low scoring era and Mesar is about .375ppg. I’ve gone through this in the Farrell thread before, players that can’t produce at 21 in the AHL rarely ever develop into NHL contributors. People love to point at late bloomers like Marchessault but the reality is he was producing at the AHL level at that age.

Mesar is approaching bust territory and it’s fine to be objective and recognize that.

Of course it's fine, Mesar has to turn things around if he is to have any chance at the NHL. That's obvious.

I am just pointing out that there's null-to-negligible value in the snark celebrating his lack of performance.

Separately, was Plekanec given a spot on the first or third line?

You can always ask WeThreeKings but ideally people would have good judgment and not need to.

But that may be my own bias. Personally I loathe millennial snark. I think it's far less intelligent than it feigns to be.
Not as subtle as you think.

46 points for a kid who for a good chunk of the season averaged less than 10 minutes of ice time. How good can he become?
Is this kid good enough to pair with Suzuki?
The reason I ask is because he's probably the only center we have that has the smarts to play with him.
If we manage to land that elusive second line center this is gonna be so much fun.

Don't read things that are not there.

It seems like Demidov may be the second best forward on the team as early as next year, so yes.
Perhaps by the end of his first year, but I don't see that happening right out of the gate. Too many variables to get comfortable with when stepping into the NHL as kid from Russia. I'd love to be wrong, though

Demidov, as a 19 year old, has 45 points in 53 games. SKA has 13 games left, the final regular season game is on March 22nd.

Kaprizov, as a 21 year old, had 51 points in 57 games.

He now has 46 points in 54 games with 13 games left.

Art Ross challenger, better than Suzuki as soon as next year.

Guys...we're doing it again....

I'd use Michkov's rookie season as a fair barometer for Demidov's impact next year. Anything above that 50 point threshold would be very impressive for a NA Rookie.

Better quality video of that beautiful assist.

I mean he set it up for him on a silver platter.

The kid is insane. A maestro. A savant. An artist. Ethereal. Cerebral. He brings hope to the hopeless, turns agony into joy. He will return our franchise to glory.
