Carolina may have hit a home run with Demidov's teammate-

Alexander Nikishin

6'4 215 and he is a dominant Dman. He was drafted in 2020 and he may never come over but if he does...he might turn out to be a great player.

True, but he will be put on pp1 eventually (I think it will be quicker than it was for Hutson), and once he's there he will start scoring a lot of pp pts considering the talent there.

On pp2, he should still be able to score some pts. For a 2nd unit, Demidov - Dach - Newhook - Matheson - Heineman is pretty good talent.
I barfed when I read Dach, Newhook and Matheson...

Heineman might have a legitimate role as a net front presence.

The reality is that slafkovsky might be the one suffering from not being on the PP1 at the onset of the season:

Laine Suzuki, Caufield, demidov, Hutson

But, if Laine doesn't produce like gangbusters, Slafkpovsky likely returns as a net front presence and Laine goes to PP2

He needs a solid passing center
Big hole to fill
KH has his work cut out for him
Honestly, I have to disagree with you. Ivan's game is very much like a center. He carries the puck through the neutral zone and brings it into the o-zone with ease. He is very much a pass first type.

I believe if he needs a certain style of player, he will need a natural finisher, someone who will bury the plays he will create. (like a Caufield for example.)

Could Demidov turboboost Joshua Roy? Sometimes, it is just a question of chemistry...

Obviosly he's not limited to it, but Demidov seems to be at his best when paired with a rugged player who can do some of the dirty work around the net/boards while he controls the play.
On SKA it's been Plotnikov or Bardakov. Either of those two have worked well with Demidov.
So you're saying he can turn Mesar into a beast?

60 is achievable, but I think Michkov is a fair barometer as they would both be coming to NA following a KHL season in their D+1 and both had highly successful KHL campaigns before coming over.

I prefer Demidov to Michkov for our team, but expectations wise, this is as clear a comparable as we could get.
Michkovs on pace for 53 points. It's been dropping for a month or two.

Demidov, IF msl doesn't have his head up his ass, should get top line and #1 PP duties. If those things happen, kids a PPG player next year.

If Demidov is a PPG player starting next year -- GREAT THING -- Hughes better start earmarking a lot of Cap space for the kid in four years and, even during his ELC which would cost the full 4.65M possible with all the bonuses.

I expect the kid -- at that production level so early in his career -- would go the 6-year route on a 2nd NHL contract, maybe at a little less than the 15M that would be the new benchmark (or something else) for players with his impact, but ready to pounce on one final big payday -- maybe 20M per at that point -- as he turns 29 (29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36).

Even Bedard wasn't PPG in his rookie season. Expecting Demidov to put up 82 points in 82 games in his rookie year is way too much.

He's likely coming over for next season by the sounds of things

Demidov should do better considering he will play with much better offensive talent and he will play for a coach who will let him play his game
I feel the opposite. He’s going to have worse teammates because in the KHL they aren’t as good at defending than in the NHL. And unless laine, dach, Newhook, caufield and Suzuki are playing with him and take a step forward in their careers their is no way he puts out better numbers.

Talking about Demidov's nhl teammates vs Michkov's nhl teammates

Who knows how Demidov will produce as a rookie? However, unless he is playing with Suzuki, or Hughes goes out to get a genuine 2C if Demidov is to play on the 2nd line, he won't produce at the highest level he can.

People won't like to hear this but I agree. Since Crosby and Ovechkin had their 100 point rookie seasons, only two rookies have scored 80 points - Malkin and Barzal. There's only a couple others that scored 70 points as well, and one was 25 year old Artemi Panarin. The NHL is a tough league for young players and putting up 50-60 points as a rookie is excellent, and often times enough to win the rookie scoring race.

I've been on this site forever and if there's one thing I learned, it's that keeping expectations a notch or two beneath the hype levels will spare a lot of disappointment and frustration.

Some posters on here are off their rocker when it comes to Demi. I agree many need to start chillin' da fook out thinking this kid is going to become a PPG in his rookie season.

It's great to be excited for what he may become but let the child breathe and get acclimated to the big show before these lofty expectations get put on him. The same thing happened to Slaf and many before him.

Nikishin is one of the best D not playing in the NHL for sure. That kid is a beast

I thought for sure he was part of the Rantanen deal. Was a bit surprised when he wasn't. If i'm Carolina i do everything in my power to try to bring him to NA asap. But as an Habs fan i hope they don't lol

I want to cheer for this young man and not expect him to come here and score 40 goals

We will have this young gun for many years. let's ease in and make him a long time Hab

Most elite forward prospects don't get to play with good nhl talent in their rookie season since they are joining very bad teams.

Bedard most common linemates in his rookie season were Kurashev and Foligno.
For Michkov, it is Tippett and Frost.
For Hughes, it was Palmieri and Zacha.
For Stutzle, it was Tierney and Batherson.
For Celebrini, it is Toffoli and Eklund.

Demidov will be a year older than all of them except Michkov.
His most common linemates will be two of Suzuki/Caufield/Laine/Slaf/Dach.

If Laine and Dach rebounds, or if Demidov plays with Suzuki-Caufield, and he gets put on pp1, then Demidov will be put in an extremely favorable position compared to previous young elite forward prospects starting their nhl career.

Not to mention, he will likely get to spend a lot of time on the ice with one of the better offensive dmen in the nhl in Hutson.

The potential for Demidov to put up one of the best rookie seasons since Barzal is strong.

Completely agree with everything you’ve said here.

People want to lower their expectations around here because we’re used to the emotional damage of our prospects not reaching the hype.

I think between 50-60pts is considered a good rookie season for him, but I’m not going to be the least bit surprised if like you mentioned he has the best rookie season for a forward since Barzal.

Demidov will make Suzuki a 90 point center. Slaf don't have the hands to play top 6. Slaf make good second liner, with Desnoyers be ideal. Lol. With Dach on wing. Hage on third line, with Heineman
