Some of you are overly aggressive on beating up on Mesar.

It's true that Mesar's underperformed, but we should want every prospect to succeed.

Mesar's a legitimate prospect who was picked close to his expected position.

And quite frankly the Habs middle six is not set. Dach is a question mark. Laine is a question mark. Roy is a question mark. Newhook is a question mark. Armia and Evans might be gone. There's room.

His production in the OHL was not great, given his draft position. His AHL production to date is also not great. For reference at the same age Plekanec was about .89ppg in the AHL in a low scoring era and Mesar is about .375ppg. I’ve gone through this in the Farrell thread before, players that can’t produce at 21 in the AHL rarely ever develop into NHL contributors. People love to point at late bloomers like Marchessault but the reality is he was producing at the AHL level at that age.

Mesar is approaching bust territory and it’s fine to be objective and recognize that.

Is this kid good enough to pair with Suzuki?
The reason I ask is because he's probably the only center we have that has the smarts to play with him.
If we manage to land that elusive second line center this is gonna be so much fun.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if Demidov's better than Suzuki as early as next year.

That would mean a better rookie season than players like Tavares, Stamkos, Toews, and Matthews.

Perhaps by the end of his first year, but I don't see that happening right out of the gate. Too many variables to get comfortable with when stepping into the NHL as kid from Russia. I'd love to be wrong, though
