Post-Game Talk: Ice bird

A post away from winning that game. Pitt did nothing. A 5 on 3 goal an own deflection goal against and a 4 on3 in OT. We did a good job in the road here and picked up 5 of 6 points in this 3 in 4 nights.

Loved that third period and the physical response. So u know it’s there guys.

Look some very good teams will be out in the first round but that doesn’t mean they are bad teams. These threads are brutal. Team played a tough game today. Slowly but surely we will get there.

The powerplay is the big one. Gallant needs to stop big braining it. Kane Panarin Kreider Mika Fox IS your PP1. Let them figure it out give them one friggen practice at least
I honestly wouldn't mind Laffy over Kreider at this point. His hands seemed better. I dont know what happened to Kreiders touch this season... I know it wont happen but I'd be OK with it.

What's the reason for this? Let's guess:
  • Maidenless behavior of a team that has won once in regulation the last 12?
  • Villain Panarin telling everyone not to speak with the press?
  • Gallant DOES THE TALKING?
  • Some secret beef with Vince and Larry?
  • Aliens?

This is a reasonable, level headed assessment of the past few days. Not allowed here...

For the record when I talk shit on Panarin, it's not because I want him traded. I have never once said that. I want the guy that came here. This team needs that guy.

And to not come off as a whiny bitch, as that's a big topic around here now, I liked the 3rd period. Those lines worked, and hopefully continue to work. We're a better team than Pittsburgh, and pretty much the rest of the league. We just need to get there and play like it.

Or, how the team would look if we could allocate that $11.6mm to find another decent PMD and a few N/S wingers with a lot of speed to complement all the slow footed playmakes in our lineup.
To @Machinehead’s point, very few teams win the Cup without a superstar forward. Not sure Zibanejad is that guy either. I like Panarin and he is easily the best offensive forward the Rangers have had since Jagr and Messier I. That said, I don’t know if Panarin is the right superstar…

The reporters are right, you can’t just come out after wins. You also have to take the heat for the 3 minutes or whatever.

Now, Halak is probably the last guy I need to hear from today.

it only seems like Panarin gives the puck away a lot because he has possession of it so much to begin with

also lol at people bagging Fox like he hasn't been carrying the defense on his back for 4 weeks now

The real issue is that the fans are so not used to having an offensive superstar on the team that when we have one who does things an offensive superstar does, like create tons of chances and also turn the puck over a lot and play spotty defense, it’s shocking.

He plays lazy defense and turns over the puck, yes. He’s also one of the top 5 point scorers in the league in his time as a Ranger. He’s an offensive superstar, you live with his warts. He’s become insanely underrated around here this season.
You're absolutely right.

I feel like this fanbase is somewhat conditioned to be offended by skill by this f***ing organization that's mostly offended by skill. Either that, or we've been so deprived of it over the years that we expect these guys to be perfect and never make sacrifices to put up 90-100 points.

Yeah, he does do annoying things sometimes. Every good player prioritizes offense and as I've said ad nauseum, the list of elite scorers who are good defensively is like four guys.

Frankly, Panarin has the puck so much that his defensive analytics are actually solid.

People want a unicorn. Who's a 90+ point scorer who's good defensively, physical, high-effort all the time, and doesn't make mistakes? Bergeron doesn't put up those kinds of totals. Malkin has all the qualities but doesn't always have the effort. McDavid is low-key excellent defensively and is probably the closest but he does get caught up ice. Ovechkin is a an AHL player in his own zone. Maybe Crosby who is a top ten player all-time? Maybe Matt Tkachuk this year? There you go, there's two perfect players in the NHL.

Yeah, I wish we could trade Panarin for Tkachuk. I also wish it was 78 degrees in January.

I’m going with Aliens.

No thanks, goalies need their space, mentally why bother? Halak played a good game why come to listen to reporters try and have a gotcha moment. Imo the Captains are the ones who should talk to the media.

Lol at the reporters whining about not getting interviews. That's what all the great teams do with their star players, especially near/during playoffs.
Oh and btw, it's not usually the players that decline but the PR staff.

New generation of players and fans who know the post game media availability is complete nonsense. 10 years ago Larry and Vince might have had people go to bat for them on this issue but not in 2023. Even when the players are available the reporters ask garbage questions anyway so I have no problem with doing away with the entire routine altogether. Designate one or two guys and the coach to be available after games and that's it.

Outside of those who need it to get paid, does anyone really care about media availability?
I understand there may be some contractual components to it, but I can understand why the players really aren't interested in hearing Brooks ask the same inane question for the 600th time, while giving the same canned response.
We are finally seeing the social media generation come to the fore, and it really does seem (for better or worse) that things like post-game media are not things they really grew up with or care about

Agree. Today was definitely a step in the right direction. The forward lines looked much better.

The 4th line was great (when have we said that all year?). Kreider-Trocheck-Kane looked pretty solid once they were put together.

Panarin is once again the major disappointment. He needs to figure it out by the playoffs.

Lindgren will be back soon, so we don’t have to watch Harpoon-Schneider for much longer.

Goalies are playing better.
