Outside of those who need it to get paid, does anyone really care about media availability?
I understand there may be some contractual components to it, but I can understand why the players really aren't interested in hearing Brooks ask the same inane question for the 600th time, while giving the same canned response.
We are finally seeing the social media generation come to the fore, and it really does seem (for better or worse) that things like post-game media are not things they really grew up with or care about

The beat writers have their articles already written before they enter the locker room, they ask leading questions to get filler quotes to support their narrative (e.g. “how great is it playing on a line with Kane?”). It’s dumb and not very informative for the reader.

To @Machinehead’s point, very few teams win the Cup without a superstar forward. Not sure Zibanejad is that guy either. I like Panarin and he is easily the best offensive forward the Rangers have had since Jagr and Messier I. That said, I don’t know if Panarin is the right superstar…

I think there's a bias towards guys that have already won a Cup when assessing who's the "right" guy to do it and since we don't see those guys every night, we don't see their flaws.

Tampa's top line recently got benched for an entire period. There's three guys right there who obviously have bad habits according to their coach, and three guys who are indisputably the rights guys because they did it already.

If Panarin has another bad playoffs, I could see it, but his mediocre playoffs last year followed an entire season where he kind of sucked. He's been good this year.

And journalism (well done journalism at least) should aim at pointing accountability with tough questions. Speaking solely for myself, I get very antsy when I don't hear my daily ration of cliches' from NHL players. So much so that I never watch pre-game or post game shows & I always mute intermissions.

I'm still pretty convinced we actually want to swap spots with Pittsburgh and play the Canes in round one. Neither would be an easy series, but I think they are a better match up for us than the Devils.

Also, not to harp on the kids as there are issues everywhere, but the 3 amigoes managed a whopping 1 shot and 2 hits between them...

Schedule has been awful

I'm still pretty convinced we actually want to swap spots with Pittsburgh and play the Canes in round one. Neither would be an easy series, but I think they are a better match up for us than the Devils.
