Hypothetical - does McDavid win the Conn Smythe even if Oilers lose the cup? Assuming he has an above average finals

McDavid was great in the playoffs, but him winning the Conn Smythe despite losing was just as much "he was great in the playoffs" and "no one on Florida deserved it". Had Florida won in 4 or 5 games, you'd absolutely give it to someone on their team. But they blew a 3-0 series lead and let McDavid put up 6 points to take the series back to 3-3 and force a game 7.

Combine McDavid's pre-finals performance and his performance after the Oilers were down 3-0 in the series, I absolutely think he deserved it. But it's also Florida's piss poor showing after game 3 along with McDavid's performance that made McDavid deserve the Conn Smythe IMO.

He couldn't even show some class to come out and receive your trophy. The NHL commissioner is calling your name and you're hiding because you don't want to be seen crying.

Unreal captain.
You can spin this both ways, I am with my teammate we lost, do not care about individual award type of leadership....

Giguere did it his own way, very ostensibly acting like he didn't cared and forced himself to take the picture:

He's basically the same player when he was 18. No maturity after all these years in his game or character.
What an awful post. Shame.

****

To hell with the Conn Smythe. McDavid's not there for individual awards. I stand by him staying in the locker room. God bless him.

How many did he have in game 7. Good for him to pad his stats when his team is winning 8-1.
Shameful post.

If yiu guys actually look at the 3 game comeback. It was the third and fourth liners doing the early work scoring goals and building leads. Whereas Mcstatpadder added meaningless points in blowouts.

I don't blame him for not coming out to accept the trophy. Devastating to come that close and lose and a personal trophy doesn't make up for it. It isn't disrespectful in the least that he didn't come out. I think lots of players would have opted to not come out after being on the losing team.

Give me a break. Without McDavid this team is easily out in the first round. But I suppose Hyman had 70 goals this year because he is just that good.

Running up the score in blow out games is 97 and Edmonton's signature.

There isn’t a person more important to his team then McDavid in 2024.

Didn't even come accept the trophy?

Right thing to do by the Captain, be there with his guys after a devastating defeat rather than leave his brothers for a personal trophy. Respect.

A bit surprised the Oilers didn’t have a staff member “accepting on Connor’s behalf”

McDavid deserved it no qualms with him getting it. Don't think anyone cares to be honest. McDavid put up some stupid numbers these playoffs and did everything he could taking this to 7.

Such a shame to come so close. The Oilers and McDavid showed a lot of heart coming back and though nothing is guaranteed, there’s no doubt in my mind that this wasn’t their last crack at it.

Going to be strange to have to field arguments about how the Conn Smythe winner isn’t a winner for at least another year.

A strong game 7 would have been nice, but still very deserving. Just a treat to watch and anyone coming in here giving this guy a hard time is ridiculous. Truly one of the best ever

McDavid deserves the the trophy for skating around in circles and getting nothing done......
Except the trophy is for the whole playoffs not just two games. The fact is he crushed every other player offensively this playoffs while also being elite defensively
