Except the trophy is for the whole playoffs not just two games. The fact is he crushed every other player offensively this playoffs while also being elite defensively

Spot on. The folks saying he was invisible are only proving that they don’t know a thing about defensive play or the solid two-way game they claim to favor so much.

Connor Marino needed a point in game 7 and it would’ve been no doubt

Who cares about the Conn Smythe. The Cup is all that matters. The Oilers failed to win what Matters.

I bet even he was shocked when he heard his name. That performance in last 2 games didn't warrant the trophy imo. Was just an award for being such a great nhl brand ambassador. Well done!

First player in NHL history to my knowledge who refused to accept the trophy.

Refuses to touch the Campbell trophy, then refuses the Conn Smythe.

What an embarrassment to the league.

He wasn't a no-show. Come on, now. Did you even watch some of the great chances they had when Bob was basically out of the net?

It's the easy excuse for the haters. The stats still show the ice was heavily tilted in his favor over the last 2 games despite going pointless. Played great in his own zone. The awful ice in game 7 definitely impacted him more than most.

This post is an embarrassment.

The guy just went through war with his teammates and lost the prize he really wanted. Then he’s expected by this idiot league to come out in front of the team celebrating that win and about to hoist the cup to accept an individual award.

Guy can’t win, most complain he’s in it for individual awards, then when he shows his colleagues and team mean more he’s criticized for that.

I said about a week ago I hoped they wouldn’t give it to him in a loss, because I knew this would be the outcome.

Worst part is I think they actually have to accept the trophy in front of the crowd. Undoubtedly, he will be booed as he picks it up. And watches Florida celebrating.

Will probably have zero worth to him if it comes in a losing cause.

My crystal ball says you are mostly right.

After battling back from a 3-0 series deficit to lose on road ice, fans already booing when it was announced that he had won, what motivation was there to come out and get the consolation prize while your opponent is about to skate the real trophy 50 feet away? I wouldn't either TBH. F that

Would’ve been embarrassing if he accepted a personal award after losing the Stanley Cup with his teammates after a gruelling 4 round war, respect that he did the right thing, team first. Some people are just idiots that don’t understand brotherhood and team first mentality.

Lot of surprising comments in here to me. McDavid was as much of a lock for the Conn Smythe as any normal bet in sports; -2500-3500 odds pre-game (~97% chance of happening). It’s an award for the best total playoff performance and we’re talking about an objectively top #5 performance for a skater in NHL history. Love Bob and have zero dog in this series, but this was absolutely 1000% McD’s award.

His disappointment is no different than any other player who loses in the Cup final.

He is different than every other player in the ENTIRE HISTORY of the NHL in refusing to accept the Conn Smythe.

Be upset all you want, but put on your big boy pants and accept the damned trophy.

Giguere did it. Hextall did it. There was zero reason McDavid couldn't have done it.

Was it embarrassing for Giguere and Hextall when they BOTH accepted thr trophy after losing? Or every other player in the history of the NHL who accepted the trophy?

Lindros was the first petulant child who refused to touch the Wales trophy, and the league has been filled with that childish attitude ever since, but McDavid sunk to a new all-time low.

What an MVP looks like to the NHL.

Before you reply with whatever you’ve convinced yourself is true…remember you and I had the same number of points in GAME 6 AND 7 of the Cup Finals as the Conn Smythe winner.

From the team that lost.

The league and the game itself is more important than f*cking McDavid or any individual player.

Players used to understand this. Now we get this selfish BS f refusing to touch trophies, refusing to accept trophies, next will be refusing to shake hands after the game.

And the same people defending McDavid will defend players who skip the handshake line too.
