McDavid living up his reputation as a born loser for not accepting the award. The NHL will never again give the Conn Smythe to a member of the losing team

I wonder if the people defending McDavid’s decision to stay in the locker room would do the same if the same thing happened with a guy like Kucherov?

I have the sneaking suspicion they would be ripping him a new one instead.

McDavid should have manned up and accepted his award.
Not sure it’s accurate but some reports state he wasn’t told he won it til after he left the ice. Giguere in 2003 did an interview just a couple of days ago and said he got told just before the handshake line by someone that he had won it

McDavid showed his true colour last night…yellow

If he truly was one of the GOAT’s he’d have had an ounce of humility and class, sucked it up, and still went out there to accept the Conn Smythe and get his photo taken with Bettman. It’d have taken what??? 2 minutes???

Can you imagine the outrage if Wayne, Mario, or Crosby would’ve pulled that garbage?? The media would’ve been raking them over the coals for f***ing years!!!!

And it’s not like McDiva is 18-19 years old anymore. He’s what??? 28????? Or should I say 28 going on 4. :eyeroll:

Based on that petty childishness alone, I hope he never comes close to even sniffing a Cup finals ever again. Or wins another playoff round ever again.

f*** him and Crysaitl. Petulant f***ing manchild losers…the both of them. 🖕🖕🖕🖕

The trophy shouldn't be handed over with the SC anyway. Just award it later on. Too much pressure to award it to the best player of the winning team, or even when you don't (what was it like 6 times?) it's anticlimactic like this.

I was shocked they gave it to McDavid, because they hardly ever award it to a non-winning team, and even then it's always the goalie. Is McDavid the first losing team skater or forward to win it? But he absolutely deserved it, and you shouldn't have to break Gretzky's record for them to make this "exception". If you are the best player in the playoffs you should win it, even if your team doesn't win the cup.

I think up until maybe the early 90s it was awarded after the cup ceremony but then they began doing it before

Did anybody actually expect McDavid to skate back out there to accept it? I sure didn't. Not saying I wouldn't have, but he would have lost face with his team for doing so.

Does this mean he doesn't officially get it and they will award to someone else? Or do they just Fedex it to his mansion?

Pretty sure it's voted on with 10 minutes left in the game and that's why he won it. It was 1 goal game so the cup winning team was still up in the air when they had to select the MVP.

Reggie Leach did in 1976 when he scored 19 goals in 16 games.

Yeah that's right. I think it should be voted on 2 weeks after the finals when the dust has settled and you can judge the whole playoffs as a whole and not just what have you done for me lately.

Had McDavid not had those few high scoring games and not broken Gretzky's record they would have gave it to Bobrovsky for sure. Even though McDavid still would have deserved it if you evaluate it based on the whole playoffs and not just the last few games.
