I remember reading somewhere the Leafs best games happened when they have 20 plus chances from the high slot and in games the lost it was like 6 or something like that.

JVR type.

I watched Engvell try to flip pucks up the wall, easily seven times late in the third with Tampa just taking the side wall away.

I expect some of you to say none because nobody should be fired and/or traded when the team puts up 115 points in the regular season which is a franchise record

they won 54 games that's a franchise record.

and you'd be right those things are true and part of me would agree nobody should be fired or traded after setting franchise records.

But on the other hand how many more 1st round exits are acceptable before all those franchise record in points and wins as great as they are do not matter?

I wouldn't touch the core I would target the goaltending because I don't think Jack has been great this series.

I think they need a legitimate #1 and I would give Kyle another shot with the prevision that he go out and get a legitimate #1.

but I am not sure Dubas's Job is not on the line Saturday.

I'm not sure Keefe's job is not on the line Saturday because if Dubas is gone the new guy might want his own coach.

I don't think Shanny's job is on the line Saturday but I'm not even sure about that.

I think Nylander's job is on the line Saturday and I'm not sure that's fair but I'm also not sure it's not because as I said before how many more 1st round losses are acceptable?

so I ask again how many jobs are on the line Saturday?
115 points in regular season means nothing when you cant win when it counts

None. Expect another Game 7 loss next year. That’s enough for MLSE and a lot of posters on here at this point.
You know expectations are pretty low when there are people who are proud of the team because they played hard in Game 7. I mean it’s Game 7, showing up should be the absolute minimum.

All teams are forced to hit the cap minimum. Paying Matthews 10-12 per isn't an issue.
Connor McDavid is earning $13 M annually I believe while Jack Eichel comes in at No. 2 at $12 M. Auston Matthews’s next contract, depending on the salary cap in two years time, would eclipse both of them.

Fans here said both Matthews and Marner played a great Game 7, however the end result is what counts.

Except that core was at a cup final previously. Please stop with the excuses!
Five seasons beforehand, they also missed the playoffs a few times and lost in the first round as well. Took them 12 years from the stamkos pick to hoisting a cup.

I don't know why I bother but there was playoff success - something the Leafs no absolutely nothing about

You left out the seasons before where they posted 24 and 34 win seasons finishing last and 12th in the conference.
It still took them a long time to get to the final goal, of a cup championship and that’s all that matters.

Except for they won the cup in 2004. Then they lost their core
Went to Stanly cup in 2014
Lost to conference finals in 2010
Lost to quarter finals in 2006 and 2007 to Ottawa and NJ
Lost to conf finals in 2015

They had playoff success while the east was being dominated by a guy name Crosby and a team called Boston

Leafs havent' won a round in 20 years. Tampa until 2010 didn't have a 60 goal scorer and a 11 million dollar center who was once a superstar in this league. Tampa didn't have secondary scoring like Nylander and Marner. GIven a team with Kadri, Hyman, JVR, Marleau, Kapanen to botch

One team is not like other. Tampa went through 3 rebuilds and all 3 times they came out ahead of us

They never had a ready made team. Dubas took a ready made team and made a shamble of it. Tampa rebuild 3 times......... 3 bloody times and all tenures they made to 2nd rounds

Maybe I was wrong about you being a better poster, lots of nonsense in here, who cares about 2004? Why are we hanging the past failures or comparing past success of other teams? Not everything is linear. Since 08 when they drafter stamkos they have had lots of great players in and out, what do you mean?
I just don’t care about the past success or failure, it serves no purpose.
Kyle was handed expiring elc superstars, boat anchors and a wonky D with the sage advice of his predecessor that if you have time to use it

No bud. You have never been wrong about me. You were always right when you said I was too attached to this team. I remember that vividly and you are absolutely right

I on the other hand think very highly of you. Nothing here is personal for me but I love this team too much

There's nothing you can say that will change my mind about Dubas and Keefe who is a fraud of a coach. Keefe would have been kicked out of town in Boston had they lost to a Zamboni driver
He would have been ridiciuloued in Montreal
Dubas would have been thrown under the bus and rightfully so....in Boston and New York. They would have eaten him alive if they had lost to a zamboni driver, lost a series 4-1, lsot to columbus

Not here......>here, we are good.... Everything is good. Why get upset, that's a weakness. Cam Neeley today came out and gave it to the coach and his players....... Not Dubas. Our players needs nurturing and hugs

Kyle Dubas was given the best team any GM can have in last 20 years. A young core with great supporting cast. It takes a boy genious to make something good into something really bad

Tolerance sets expectations. If you tolerate mediocrity, the players accept that as to be norm. Hence Cam Neeley came out said what he said. he doesn't that mediocre disease

It is truly a disgrace and Shanny let’s him keep his job after so much humiliation and failure and to make matters worse Leafs ownership let’s Shanny keep his job……..all three of them should be gone.
It is like the management version of the Muskoka 5

IMO, shakeup needed. Ya ain't gettin rid of Marner, Matthews or Reilly, Ya can't get rid of Taveras. A shakeup is still needed. Maybe move Nylander and definetly move Muzzin and Holl. But the real shakeup is change the coach. There is a proven game changing coach possibly available in Trotz right now. This is the shakeup that does not affect the cap. Move those other 3 and you have 14 or 15M in cap. Lily is ready, Sandin is ready. Go get a bigger version of a Kerfoot. Give Taveras some muckers that will get the puck. But the biggest impact would be the coaching change. Would change the whole room. Keefe just ain't it.

It's time to start trusting our kids in my opinion. Which in turn will free up lots of cap. Move Holl, move Kerfoot, move Mrazek. Bring back Engvall who is a homegrown product through drafting. Mikheyev will price himself out, so unfortunately goodbye after he finally came along for us. Let Kase walk, too much injury history there. Bring back Clifford and Spezza on league minimum deals....with the understanding that the 3 vets will be moving in and out of the lineup throught the year (Clifford, Simmonds, Spezza). Give Robertson his shot. Give Anderson his shot (he's been a workhorse down on the Marlies), Give Douglas some looks and callups this year(don't make the same mistake we made with Marchment). Bring back Gio. Bring back Lyubushkin. Go after Vinnie Trocheck to play C and shift JT to the wing.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Tavares-Trocheck-Nylander
Robertson-Kampf-Anderson

Engvall-Spezza-Simmonds, Clifford-Engvall-Simmonds, Clifford-Engvall-Spezza are the different 4th line combinations. Engvall has played C, and should utilize his skating and two-way play in the middle. Spezza can take draws the games he's in.

Rielly-Liljegren
Giordano-Brodie
Muzzin-Sandin
It's a long season and Muzzin struggles with injuries, Lyubushkin will get plenty of chances to rotate in.

No team has had any success with even one 10+ mil$ forward. We have 3 of them.

Add on the amount of signing bonuses, front loaded and the amount of sponsorships, the Leaf players have some of the best, if not the best, contracts in the league.

Who thought tying up almost 50% of the cap in four forwards was a good idea? Oh yeah, dubas and his fan boys.

I, and many others, said back in 2019 that those contracts were not going to lead to success. Three years later and history has proven us 100% correct.

Most gms inherit a team that is on the down swing. Lou took over a sub 70 point Leafs team and within 3 years had a franchise record season. He then went to a sub 80 point isles team and within 3 years made the semi finals twice.

Literally every single gm in the league wouldve killed for the opportunity dubas got.

Yet so many dubas fan boys act like the team he inherited was trash lmao the delusion is so strong that they literally invent facts and make up excuses to suit their agenda.

I'm fairly certain none of them are even real leaf fans.

Those posters never truly played competitive hockey. How can you truly understand the value of intangibles if you never faced them in a highly competitive game and they don’t show up in the stats?

With that said I like Dubas but he needs to change his teams play style to get tougher and actually trade his small skill prospects for players that can help our team.

Get rid of Holl, promote Lilly and find a bloody good #1 goalie. We can’t have a plug in net when our team is playing well it just kills the teams confidence and they start playing to not get scored on instead of trying to score.

I agree the only problems I have with Robertson/Anderson/Liljegren/Sandin is the smaller bodies not so much in the regular season but when it comes to the playoffs when other teams are going to be hitting a lot more etc. If you look at the Tampa series they outplayed us on the boards and on the dump ins because we didn't really have enough bigger physical guys to win the board battles. With the defense it's the same issue all small un physical players who are going to get over powered when it comes to battles or in front of the net. Rielly/Liljegren/Giordano/Brodie/Sandin all play the same type of game/style... puck moving, mostly offensive d-men, we don't need that many puck moving/offensive d-men we need more bigger/stronger and more physical d-men who are going to win battles and not get pushed around and overpowered in front of the net.
