Dubas is not the issue. Logically, he built a good team. There's no denying it.

It's all on the players.

Some guys don't have it mentally and this core is full of those guys. They all play below their abilities in knockout games...

These guys that don't have it mentally didn't get to Toronto by themselves. That's why Dubas has to go too. Poor scouting.

They need to trade 1 of Matthews or Marner. Those 2 are too lovey dovey with each other. That is the only thing that would actually change the dynamic of the team. Nylander is much more of a secondary piece and wouldn't shock the core any to change their outlook.

The problem in trading Matthews or Marner is that the other most likely asks for a trade as well.

Nothing can be done to this team until Tavares' contract runs out.

Trotz have an inside connection to Bettman that will prevent us from getting f***ed by the NHL in the playoffs every year?
Wait so let me get this straight. You are assuming that if the Tavares goal counted, the Rielly goal still happens? That's not how the butterfly effect works.

There's no way Dubas is going to hire Trotz. Literally polar opposites.

Only way Trotz gets hired is if Dubas is let go and the Organization goes through a system overhaul
Dubas and Keefe should both be gone then.

I feel like this team can win a cup, but it takes puck luck, and so far they haven't had any.

Honestly feel like it's just a coinflip who won the last couple of these games. Leafs dominated in the 3rd tonight, so many chances and bounces that could have ended up in the net, but didn't.

I don't love Dubas, but I think he's put together a team that gives us a legit shot a cup for a couple of years.

I get the whole "not getting out of the first round is unacceptable" thing, and yes it matters, but how much does it matter if we lose in the first or third round other than it feels better for a short time?

This isn't a hard opinion, I just can't bring myself to believe this team lacks some mythical ability to close when everything's been so tight with a killer team that's gunning for its third straight cup.
I agree on the puck luck, but at the same time you have to acquire the players that get you puck luck. You need bulky guys to stand in front of the net and make things difficult. They might not be flashy like Mikheyev & Engvall, but they make life difficult for the opposing goalie.

I hope Dubas addresses this in the offseason.

Kyle 'Spreadsheet' Dubious will likely stay but Keefe has to go, especially with Trotz available. And anyone saying he and the team aren't a fit clearly never watched Washington before or during his time there.

Every offseason I always feel like I have a lot of ideas where the team could be better, what kind of direction they could pivot to, who stays, who goes, who gets promoted. But honestly, I feel like this build is at a complete dead end. We need a middle class reshuffle but I don't know what, maybe we invest in a long term goalie solution, but beyond that, what are we even designing for anymore, just to avoid the annual first round misstep?

What a stupid way to judge a prospect pool. The Leaf's are acquiring top prospects in the late first/2nd/3rd rounds. Your expecting teenagers to be on the team?

He's been here since 2018 dude. Even the Habs who are ass at player development have a 20 goal scorer from the mid to late first

Our incredible prospect pool currently has 1 finish D guy and knies who are ready for the show ( and obviously sandin).

You think 3 useable players in 4 years is good?

Dubas's system and methods....are built for the Regular Season. They always have. Playoffs are a different animal and the team that he continues to construct will fail and continue to fail.

I'm willing to shave off wins in the regular season if it means we can get past the damn 1st rd

I would remove Nylander and honestly Rielly too if it wasn't for his extension. Just cause a team is good on paper or regular season doesn't mean they are actually good when it matters.
game is played on the ice and it doesn’t lie

You're right. Puck luck starts from good fundamentals, body positioning, how to manage certain parts of the ice, and a bunch of subtle things I'm not qualified to really speak about, but you know it when you see it and it's often the same kind of players or individuals who get them. I think the Leafs are good but also are busy reinventing the wheel and probably gloss over a lot of the good solid basics. The curl back, bump backs and cross ice breakouts are sweet when they work but a lot of them fly in the face of solid basic hockey. Those things matter when there's no margin for error.

For your info Cooper and company failed for years until they won. Trotz failed for years until he made it.
Tampa actually made it into the Cup finals before Point, Sergachev and McDonagh was added to the roster and Vas was still the backup, the only real failure Tampa had was 16/17 when Vas and Point were still developing and McDonagh and Sergachev still hasnt arrive and in 18/19 when they got swept by CBJ, that is not comparable at all to 6 straight 1st round exits.

add Nick Paul and Ross Colton

Yes? What are you expecting from late 1st/2nd rounders?

Durzi
Robertson
Sandin
Abruzzese
Niemela
Knies

Seeing "1 finish D guy" shows me as much as I need to know about your knowledge of the Leaf's prospect pool. LOL.
