How do you feel about the firing of Tim Peel?

I don't really think anything of it. Until they actually start being held to a standard for calls in game, nothing matters. They will never be held to said standard because those who could are those instructing them.

I remembered there was only ONE ref and two linesmen, then they added another ref b.c it will be less non-calls....

Personally, call the game fairly. Like umps in baseball, they all have different ideas of strikezones but they(most of them) will call it the same for both teams.
If the ref is calling a tap as a slash or a hook, the standard must be for for both teams and not just on one team.

Unfortunately it is much easier for Bettman to 'OFF' 1 guy as a rebel ... trying to explain da ref/coaching thing, that is uniquely Canadian, will be next to impossible to manage with both American public and with MSG gambling guys ... Bettman's gambling deal would go up in smoke faster than you can say tomorrow ... I can almost hear it - why are your linesmen yelling CLEAR CLEAR CLEAR to players on 1 team on an offside?????? Why are refs yelling MOVE IT MOVE IT MOVE IT or I'm calling you 4 for a delay?????????????? Why are refs screaming at defenders in front of net STOP DA CROSS CHECKING YA DO ONE MORE and ya going to box 6????????? or da refs going to benches to each coach and telling them to settle things down or next rough after whistle I'm gonna throw 1st guy who shoves in da box?????????????????? ETC ETC ETC it happens all game long... oh well we do that because we are coaching at same time as reffing ... refs don't want to call penalties (as former players) and they talk to guys to let them know they are game managing ... this is way it has been done for a hundred years ... it will be crazy if this actually changes ... i mean it could ... but it will be seriously CRAZY to make this kind of systemic change in officiating
Call it as you see it and call it by the rules is difficult now is it. Oh I don’t get it.

I don't watch baseball and hockey may be in the same boat soon but anyway doesn't baseball have that square projected on the screen where a fan can see where every pitch was. Actually baseball seemed to have the best officiating of all the sports. Other than tennis and the holier than though Golf. Where the players police themselves.

That's a brave reporter right there, we all no there's no pro-Leaf commentary allowed on twitter

It's why games have to be called consistently across the league.

I said at the time the response from Kadri probably doesn't happen if the right calls were made. it was insulting reffing and might have cost the Leafs something fierce if Kadri didn't get suspended (that was on him).

The league has been an officiating joke for years. I'm not sure who that is an indictment on.

You know I see nothing wrong with what you mentioned, I don't even consider that game management.

So the question again is: will this situation benefit the Leafs and should they be more vocal now in the short term?
No. Reffing never benefits the Leafs. Hasn’t for four years. The refs screw us more than most. It’s blatantly thete 4 years running Glad the crook got caught. This board has been so awesome watching them and putting video in of really good shots of them ignoring giving us a call

Firing a guy for doing exactly what he’s been trained to do for 30 years is some scapegoating bullshit.

Game management is not Tim Peele’s fault.

You fire a guy for stealing from your store. Sure he's most likely not the only one doing it but you caught HIM. The others go on notice...get caught and you're next.

He should sue the league and expose the whole game management thing as evidence that him getting fired for being caught on a hot mic while following instructions is unfair dismissal. He was an awful ref though

Yes and no, there will always be some variance, but it's the same group deciding on suspensions and there's been a pretty clear Leafs (un)bias there.

Call a crappy game, but that was never worth 5 playoff games.

Yup. Campbell and Walkom have to go for this to be fixed. The cancer goes all the way to the top.
Neither should have had a job after the Dean Warren stuff came out.

They probably just let him sit out with pay until he retires, to avoid such a situation.

they only fired him cause he was retiring in a month. any other referee and this would not have been the punishment. This is a serious issue and its existed for 100 years. It will never ben fixed.

its know big deal, this will be in the past in a few days ...

Respectfully disagree. I see this as a game changer, the NHL has been outed. This will impact future betting patterns, fan reaction will be highly volatile when they return to the arenas. Were I the league I'd be concerned about safety issues for the referees. There is going to be constant and heightened observation as to how games are called, it's what society does these days. The NHL is going to have to adjust its philosophy as to how the game is refereed, communicate that change to the officials and the teams (without sharing it in public, no doubt), implement the changes and hope to christ some idiot fan doesn't toss a full can of beer at a ref for a blown/made up call. I'd guess that there are a lot of conversations taking place right now.
