I feel really cheated by those epacks...I bought 10 boxes of series 1 hobby this year. Found out 4 months later that a large portion of the hits were held back for the e cards.

Decided to pass on series 2 hobby because of the same issue.

Until Upper Deck makes a separate hobby product for those e packs, I'll largely be sticking. to retail that I find on sale.

the physical boxes have the same odds, i don't get this mentality.

I picked up a box of 14-15 UD series 1 last summer on a whim and im glad I did (first box in 18 years). I found a 2014-2015 UD Canvass Young Guns, Evgeni Kuznetsov. Anyone know the going rate, ive seen as low as 25 and as high as 200.

$20-25. only way it goes for more than $30 is if you get it graded and it is exceptional (9.5 or 10) and it costs money to get it graded

Ugh so ****ing LAME that Eichel signed an exclusive auto contract with Leaf. Seeing all these Eichel UD cards with just a jersey or patch on it with no auto is so ****ing weak. So weak. Like one of the Leaf jersey auto Eichel cards has him in a baseball jersey with Eichel on the back

So glad I'm not even bothering to really collect him. He is way over priced for a hobby player in Buffalo, he will go down as soon as next year with the next crop of rookies. Part of me never wants to collect an active player again. I dropped thousands into my Vanek collection, and A. He isn't even a Sabre anymore (or all that good anymore) and B. I doubt I'd get back more then 20% of what I paid. I would just sell my Vanek Pc but don't feel like going through all the effort selling them 1 by 1 since selling the whole lot at once would kill my return even more.

I don't blame Eichel for signing the exclusive, he was offered money and took it and you, me, and everybody else would have done the same.

It's not even Leafs fault either. Leaf had asked UD not to sign McDavid to an exclusive but UD went out and signed McDavid so Leaf went out and signed Eichel out of spite to get back at UD.

Anybody who doesn't like exclusives needs to blame UD as they started the whole thing years ago with Gretzky as far as hockey exclusives go.

They don't though...

For example, if there are 10 McDavid High Gloss cards, and 3 have been held back for the later e-pack release (which I did not know what was happening at the time of purchase of the hobby boxes), then the odds of getting a McDavid High Gloss are lower.

The odds for non-numbered cards remain the same.

It's saving me a ton of money, so there's a positive. I bought a Young Gun and that's the only Eichel card I plan on getting.

I'm pretty sure there are no High Gloss in the epacks. Once you pull 5 of the same young guns you can redeem it for the silver foil young gun. I won't touch the epacks, just save a bunch of time and money and buy silver foils instead.

There are definitely high gloss, exclusives, and other numbered cards in the e-packs.

I have 5 of a couple young guns. Considering trading in. Think it'll be worth it for lesser young guns. Not the big ones though. The foil will not be worth 5x the regular.

Why are the epacks $4 a pop? Do you actually get anything worthwhile out of them? Do you have to pay for shipping for them to send you the cards(I'm sure you do, but it's worth asking)?

Because they are essential hobby packs.

Yup, you definitely pay shipping. The cheapest way to do it is to transfer them to a COMC account and then have them ship them to you.

They made 70 physical cases and 30 digital cases instead of 100 physical. There are 7 high gloss in the physical and 3 in the digital. Odds are the same for any given case. In this example you still have a 1 in 10 case chance.

I think the problem most people have is that UD never announced that they were holding back a percentage of the hobby inserts for the ePacks, until later.

When I preordered my 2 hobby boxes, a week or two before they released, I assumed any of the hobby related inserts produced could be in them. I know that was my annoyance, if you could even call it that, with the whole thing.

100 cases is far higher than normal. They never announced the print run or the fact they were making the ecases ahead of time.

You pay extra for the hobby case hits, which in this case were very hard to hit. If I'd known that 30% of hits were being held back, I'd have stuck with retail.

Also where did you find those figures for print run?

Series 2 looks to be decent. Would love to know why the Series 2 tins are more expensive than series 1 doe.

Canadian dollar?

It's getting a little out of hand. Price went up from $30 to $45.

Series 2 seems a little weak on good rookies outside of Eichel.

It's pretty random and depends on stock.

With the McDavid hype, it might not happen.

I'm still very noob at all of this. Is there a difference between hobby and retail upper deck series 1 tins? I imagine there would be, but the price are the same. I picked one up, and got Sergei Plotnikov and Kyle Baun young guns.

Anyone pick up the Upper Deck Conor McDavid Collection Box? I think all the cards you get are the same, it's just the big card that might be different.

As for the Epacks, Haven't gotten anything other than base from it so far.

Whats the best dollar for value box this year? Artifacts?

I'm on a terrible luck streak. 600+ dollars and counting on cards here and there, this year. Not a single card worth mentioning. Maybe, I'm doing it wrong. I'm not a big fan of the Upper deck series 1 or whatever but i figure i try to get a McDavid. Friends, I know get it almost instantly. I have pretty bad luck when it comes to all this hockey card stuff. Maybe, I'm not spending enough. Cheaping out on retail over Hobby is probably the biggest mistake ever. The best card I've gotten from Upper Deck Series 1 is like the McDavid/Benett checklist. I feel like I'm throwing money in a pit of fire right now.

The best bang for your buck is to stop buying packs/boxes and use your money to buy singles on ebay. Why drop $100 on a box to get $10 worth of cards when you can spend that same $100 on ebay singles and get $100 worth of cards (assuming you don't over pay on some lol).

Sure you lose out on the possibility of hitting something huge but lets face, the odds of hitting something huge are very slim unless you buy by the case.

This is true but the whole fun part of opening cards, is not expecting what you get. Just buying the cards as a single isn't fun. Plus, the card collection wouldn't have much variety in terms of players.

Also, I wouldn't know where to begin with singles. I don't particularly have a favorite player or a favorite team. Don't have any attachments. Even if i did, I search a player and there's a billion cards on Ebay. I'm too lazy to look through Beckett. I'm a casual collector. I'd buy boxes and packs for fun then throw it in a box with all the other cards and rarely look at it again.

Hobby doesn't change the odds of getting a McDavid young guns.

Hobby adds the exclusive and high gloss versions. The odds of pulling one of those this year are minuscule. High print run and 30% held back for epacks.

If you're opening the free epacks, those only contain base cards.

If you're looking for straight up value, I'd buy some 2014/15 retail 24 count boxes. Selling for about $25 USD with some solid Young Guns in there.

On average you're going to get far less than you paid back from a break, unless you buy it on a big discount.

These are easy to understand numbers to illustrate the point, I don't know what the exact print run was. I think that people are confusing the increased print run due to McDavid/Eichel and blaming it on epacks. This was always going to be a huge year because demand is so high for these rookies.

They took a large print run and made it worse by holding back hits for the epacks. If I'd known that was the case ahead of time I'd have bought less hobby and more retail.

They should have put separate hits in the epacks. Instead they f-ed over the people who bought hobby.
