He got skills but was looking for cheat on defense once the Leafs got the lead. It could be Keefe or JT telling him to cheat a bit or his own doing.
Anyhow, so far so good, would be interesting to see how he does against better competition.

The skill level is obvious. He can play. Top 6 skill and has the ability to play with high-end pace.

Wouldn't be opposed to signing him, but I definitely see some red flags in his game. Only a pre-season game but when he's frustrated offensively, he gives up on assignments in transition. It's not just off-ice attitude with him (overblown). It'll be hard for this player to iron out his shift-to-shift/inconsistent effort issues. He can think the game, it's a compete level problem.

He'll need to have a motor like Galchenyuk to be given a chance, and even if he can show that for a stretch, I think he reverts back to his bad tendencies even quicker than Galch did. Just a prediction.
This is the most likely scenario. And here I am rooting for the kid - I want him to,succeed, to be redeemed. Even as I know his high water mark is to a talented but flawed top 6 winger who can help get s into a competitive playoff series. Once there the hero or goat narrative will show itself in a great play or an unacceptable giveaway.

The reality is hat pucks bounce and stuff happens, but this does feel like the life of a leaf fan doesn’t it? We root for the names on the backs of the sweaters.

I hope he makes it though.

After just that small sample size, I would sign him to a league minimum two-way contract if I were management. Start him with the Marlies, let him hopefully dominate down there for a month and get his confidence up, and then call him up to the Leafs.

You actually could be right. You could hear Tavares telling him what to do multiple times. The most obvious one was when Ho-Sang was circling back, was going to circle back forward but Tavares said "back back" for him to move it even closer to our D.

stands to reason that ho-sang will require coaching and time at this level to figure it out. Starting with the Marlies could be great for him

He was trying to force the plays and held the puck to try and showcase his skill.
I know he's fighting for a spot but he has to remember this is a team sport and that's how you win.
His biggest lesson is that the name on the front of the jersey >>>>>>> the name on the back
I'm not sure if he will make it based on that alone.

Injecting some more skill into the line-up (rather than the Thornton/Vesey experiment of last year) would be a beathre of fresh air.

Good showing in the first game. I hope they give him at least three more to see what he's all about.

What is his waiver status?

Edit.....he would need to clear.

He flashed a few moments is this game showing off his skill and his instincts that resulted a couple good scoring opportunities.

I get this guy was a dipshit when he was growing up. He is 25 now. He seems to be maturing. I want him to make it, he has star upside. I don't even think he needs to go to the marlies. JT knows this guy. He said the skies the limit for him. This would be an incredible free wallet if it works out. I think he can be better than Nylander.

You had me until the last sentence. Absolutely no way will he ever be better than Willy

Lets say Hosang has special chemistry with Tavares and Nylander, if even given a chance there and played a role similar to Kerfoot when Kerfoot was on that line....if Hosang got 30 points in 35 games, I would wonder if the past might creep in. I think too much praise at a young age got to his head and entitlement and ego took over. Who knows if that is gone or creeps in. A part of his game is too go off on his own and do his own thing because in the past he got away with that because u dont generally bench a top player if u want to win. Its a troll job/bait the coach to make a move that essentially will work against him. No one in the NHL or AHL is going to play head games with a player like this. I think it will come down to 2 things, puck management and compete level. If those 2 things are solid, he can play 60 NHL games this year. I think even with a brilliant camp, u start him with the Marlies.

what i like about this board, is that it seems pretty unanimous, that all of us were taken by his gut wrenching interview... This guy probably has every toronto sportscaster nervous already.... Cause, this guy has Don Cherry talent...

GO KID go, I I haven't pulled for a kid this much, since I saw Kadri for the first time...

And with that interview, doesn\t really matter where he starts, he has a huge fanbase pulling for him...Its a very cool situation... I don't feel alone on this at all, I feel that all of Leaf nation is in on this one...beyond cool.

If it gets any cooler, Kevin Costner might have his next script...

Not going to hold his past against him until Im given reason to. I loved his comments about willing to sharpen skates or tape sticks if thats what we need. Definitely has the skill to be excited about.

Id be worried about him not clearing waivers if he has a decent preseason showing......but we have a big logjam of players. Using him as a Kase/Spezza sub when needed sounds like a good idea if we can keep him around.

Sigh.

Actions speak louder than words for me. Ho-Sang HAS to give an interview like that. He has no choice. Let's see this new found mind set on the ice and in the locker room and perhaps the community like Marner (if he makes the team).
This right here! I'm an Isles fan and I would love to finally see this kid make it but until I actually see him consistently perform on the ice I'm not going to get my hopes up. I really felt like he got a raw deal at times. The whole uniform number Lemieux hullabaloo was a total nothing burger. He wore the number of his childhood hero, what a crime. Puh-lease! At the same time there's no denying he shot himself in the foot consistently. Most frustrating was that his play making never translated into points (at the NHL level at least). Perhaps playing with a top heavy leafs offensive line can change that. Hope he makes it!

Nylander (and the other young stars) aren't exactly perfect personalities themselves. I can certainly imagine discontent if any of those 3 personalities got mired in the A for not progressing to the organization's satisfaction. They're probably equally as cocky and self-confident about their own skills but they've delivered in regular season NHL hockey, we've got the statistical evidence to prove it.

Ho-Sang didn't dominate in the A and didn't show a great deal in the NHL when given the opportunity. In some ways his discontent is overblown as he did suck it up and play for 4 years in the Isles' org. In the end his main hurdle isn't that he fails to show ready to play, it's that he has to come to terms about himself that he isn't a budding star but a potentially useful support player at the NHL level.

I'd rather the Leafs give a longer look and leeway to a player like Ho-Sang who has lots of talent, is quicker and younger, than some of the stiffs we've seen peddled into the bottom six of the lineup in recent years.

I'd have liked to see Ho-Sang again tonight. I imagine he will play Wednesday vs Ottawa.

As another poster mentioned, if you can have him succeed on a line with Nylander-Tavares at 750k, that would be huge for the depth of the team.

Dubas would buy himself a row of houses in Rosedale if this deal works out, and I would help him select which ones...Hopefully the ones besides my twol, lol.
