Best case scenario as far as I'm concerned is that he's a standout in training camp and earns a league min two-way deal but still starts with the Marlies to work with the development team like Galchenyuk

Medium case scenario is that he plays decently enough to get an AHL deal to join the Marlies for the year and see if he can progress over a longer period.

Worst case scenario is that he doesn't perform well enough in camp and is let go from his tryout.

The bold part this the most likely IMO, PTO's rarely work out. PTO's tend to be warm bodies that they use in scrimmages to challenge their roster players. Surprised Holland didn't snap up this guy, he seems pretty desperate to add "talent".

How does this guy bring up enough passion to illicit 10 pages?

Its just a PTO guys, if he exceeds expectations he gets signed and plays until he regresses, if he sucks he goes nowhere, no harm no foul.

You've been here since 2009 and you have to ask a question like that? This board can do 10 pages on the pros and cons of a number change.

If the 'Best case' occurs what's the odds he's claimed on waivers?

This is one I would of stayed away from. He’s had so many chances to shine or at least mature and blew them all in hilarious fashion
He’s only played 54 nhl games. Who knows how good he might be. Reserving evaluation on him. I wish him well. Big mouth about non issues gets him a pule of noise. Maybe just shut his gob and play works. Have fun etc, he is back in his hometown after all. Hopefully he just enjoys it

His play/skill really isn’t the issue with him. Just google him and view some of the articles. His teams always sour on him very quickly. Toronto isn’t exactly a model place to snap players back into reality. Dubas couldn’t even get our players to keep pissing wars about contracts internal

Yeah he runs his mouth. Disrespectful and malcontent. He doesn’t have to be like that

I don't really think Toronto is a fit for this guy (media scrutiny, etc.) but hope he does well at camp and provides some value. Talented kid

I saw enough of this guy when he played junior hockey to know he isn't a player that is going to contribute in any way to a playoff victory. That would involve effort and personal sacrifice, two things not very high on his list. What he does excel at, having individual skill and a horrible attitude are things we have enough of. It's tantalizing to look at the cost and think of what a find he could end up being at a low price, however that is a worst case scenario because if he makes the team it will be considerably weaker in the most important category for us to improve, the will to win. We have enough skill that doesn't care about our expectations of them.

Well what else are we going to talk about ? Every move we made this year has been inconsequential moves

According to everyone here every move we made is a low risk and high reward

So better get used to it. We have made plenty of those.
Agreed because Dubas can’t and he won’t make any consequential moves
:)

I'm hoping Ho-Sang can turn into an NHL regular. But I don't think Toronto is the right organization for him.

If he does well enough in camp, then I'll almost guarantee a different team signs him rather than the Leafs. Other teams are more desperate for talent and scoring than TO, and there really isn't a roster spot for him here.

On a really bad Islanders team, he produced 6 goals and 16 assists in 43 NHL games (11G, 42 pt pace). On a good team, he produced 1 goal and 1 assist in 10 NHL games (8 G, 16 pt pace).

A much better coach and a better GM than ours decided he didn't fit on a winning team.

10 pages of passion for a PTO, says a lot. Most on here know this player has the potential to be a difference maker. I think this PTO gets his NHL career on track. Sign and trade shaping up here if you ask me. Possible destination: Kraken, Ducks, Coyote...

This guy is trending towards Robie Schremp territory

Why would Coyotes or any team trade for him if they can have him now for free?

Josh always looked like an incredible offensive player from day he stepped on ice .. biggest issue is his team mates never liked him .. Josh is only concerned about Josh at end of day .. Leafs have 2 guys like him already .. nothing wrong with trying to bank don't get me wrong it is da way of hockey .. when things don't go according to his plan he takes his ball and leaves and leaves a bad odor behind him .. can't see this ending any different .. Dubie is still learning

The guy is coming home on a PTO. If he ever had a last chance this is probably it and he knows it. At 25 if you cannot already find a niche in the NHL your better taking your skills overseas like many have done and made a living.

Im hoping for the best for him.

Any idea when was the last time a player in situation worked out?

Trying to think over last 10 - 15 years where a player had questions marks was able to turn around..

There is always a chance, that one of these me first, talented players will have a Jesus moment, see their potential careers slipping, and finally do what it takes to actually have a career. He's got the talents, Gusev has the talents... they aren't on contracts, and cost us nothing. It's basically a free look to see if there has been any change in play, or attitude. I would hope any GM, at any stage of their career, would take a flier on very talented players, who for whatever reasons, haven't stuck with teams. You might actually catch lightning in a bottle... probably not of course, but a free risk, with zero consequences, is always worth taking.

Frankly, I would have Hutton back on a PTO as well. He's got some size, could provide depth, insurance...

Why wouldn't teams just sign him themselves and save the asset?

Sykora, Sheary... it's free.. no risk. Even if the odds are low, you take that risk.

Agree with logic for sure .. my thinking is even if he had a complete 100% personality changeover he still brings skills we already have more than we need .. to me I would bring in 5 guys who could be next Zach .. right now we got 2 in Anderson and Bunting hoping we get a Zach .. when reality is we need 3 Zachs on this team - one for each line

I don't have conversations with Dubas, so I have no idea what his thought process is.

I would think, a Ho Sang, who puts up .5 PPG or more, riding shot gun to one of the top two lines, has trade value. In the regular season, a Ho Sang can play his game. Build his value, trade him for the next Zach. I don't see many potential Zach's out there as PTO's. I haven't looked real hard though either.

But, I am thrilled to bits that he's picked up Douglas. I want that kid to continue to develop, and play the way he did in the prospect tourney. He's big, he's strong, he plays C, he will fight, stand up for his teammates... That could be the low key find of the offseason.
