I've said it a million times, this team is going nowhere without the kids being productive members of it. So why in the world would we have Jimmy Vesey, a guy who may or may not be back next year, on the first line taking ice time from Laf or Kakko ? They need to stop dicking them around and give them big minutes, big situations and some more pp time otherwise they are gonnna stagnate and the whole team is gonna pay.
Not gonna happen with the current regime. I wouldn't be surprised if one or both were gone at the deadline for that "missing piece".

Winning the lotteries didn't help either because they looked at that and thought "oh, here's two elite players out of the box."

"Out of the box" doesn't exist unless it's a generational talent. There's a process to getting them there. We can't do it and don't feel like learning how.

I still think the biggest thing is lack of identity. Who is this team? How do they play? What does it look like when it's working? I can't answer those questions since like 2015.

It's partially coaching of course, but they also didn't give it time for an identity to naturally form around core players.

Effort is fine and dandy but you need something clear to be working towards. Or effort becomes nothing more than shoving after the whistle.

Now you have vets doing what they, and they alone, feel like doing and kids that have never been taught what to do at this level.

They've created a huge disconnect between a young core that was never developed and an old core that was stapled together because Dolan needed to be placated.

I agree to change, I'm not sure this team with the kids failing should be heading down a rookie coach road.
Wasn't Messier known to dislike younger players when he played? Or was that just Malholtra?

This is interesting....i used to be in Toronto a lot and people there said pretty much the same thing....I think the nicest comment I heard about him was that he was an "insufferable prick"
Ok a little truth.... I was trying to sugar coat it and be respectful of the stuff he did on the ice but yeah, I was told by at least 3-4 people he was what you said with an arrogant before those words lol.

I don't like to gossip and I'm not looking for attention. Anytime I've shared limited info on players or personalities behind the scenes is from things I heard during that period.

The last piece of news I really heard was that Callahan's wife was instrumental in getting him out of NY.

This doesn't get brought up enough. There's been no attempt to integrate the young core with the old core. The respective successes of those two groups are completely separate. Separate lines, separate PP units. The kids work hard to draw a penalty at evens just for the old core to soak up the entire two minute power play.

No other team operates like this. Part of the "gig" for people like Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider should be helping the young players come along and develop yet this team has essentially done the opposite by hermetically sealing the old core apart from the young core. We don't have one unified NY Rangers team, we have a varsity Rangers and a JV Rangers both operating individually with separate goals and rewards.

1000% this shit right f***ing here.

Couldn’t stay true to a proper rebuild. Had to half ass it, because that’s the Ranger way.

Thought we did. DeAngelo, Lemieux and Georgiev.

Fact is the real cancer in this group is the same moron who can’t even spell hockey. The same dickhead who’s made the Knicks unwatchable.

As long as you have Dolan, you’ll have people in the organization that Dolan thinks knows about todays NHL that ultimately run this team.

I guarantee you Sathers still involved with some of the decision making. Drury is the GM and deserves ALL THE CRITICISM too.

f*** this team man. f*** everyone involved. People that know me In the real world hate how optimistic I am. But I can’t keep that up with this franchise.
yeah maybe but if a player or players are constantly yapping about Dolan that can't be helping anyone and maybe they should shut up and try to be a positive voice

The Brodzinski callup didn't make sense since they just threw Carp in the game for Chytil, but maybe they were building up for having to scratch someone?

Well I have a newfound respect for Trouba at least. I can't remembering a start this rough since I became a huge fan in 05. Or at least the feeling around the team. It's just off.
2009-10 was painful.

Remember in 2012-13 when Ben Ferrerio, Darroll Powe, and an attempt to sign Jason Arnott with shot knees were like methadone to these boards?

Per Natural Stat Trick, the Rangers have 4 players in the top 40 of the league in individual HDCF at 5v5. Two of those players are Kakko (28) & Lafreniere(27). The other 2 are Trocheck (33, T-12th leaguewide) and Kreider(28). Exactly one of those 4 has a shooting percentage higher than 7% at 5v5.

On the other hand, Panarin has 8. f***ing. 8.
EDIT: There is not a single F in the league with more minutes at 5v5 & less iHDCF. I checked the whole list.

Kreider has always left the Rangers wanting more with the exception of last season yet when all is said and done, he's going to basically be this generation's Steve Vickers.

It what Edge says is true, which I wholeheartedly believe, extending Kreider instead of trading him for Robertson + was one of the dumbest decisions any GM could have made (Gorts).

The Rangers never think more than one year ahead, so it shouldn’t be a surprise they are feeding the kids’ ice time to marginally better vets who won’t even be here next year.

Crazy thing is this was also true under Quinn who was supposedly a “developmental coach”.

Bitch didn’t have the patience to open with a simple Slav, French or Sicilian defense. Great hiring there Gorts.

Literally, f*** everybody that has touched this franchise with a pole from 10 feet away over the last half-decade.

TIme to make Kreider-Mika-Panarin the fourth line until they start waiving their NMCs. Hopefully the kids get to score a little more and then trade them as well.

It’s especially strange in light of how much Panarin is going out of his way to help Kravtsov.

Which begs the question why we have not heard about similar relationships being built with Kakko or Lafreniere with other vets.

A mentorship has to be a 2-way relationship so perhaps it is unfair to pin a lack of one on only the veteran players.

But remember when Crosby lived in Lemieux’s basement? Or Matthews and Marner hanging out with Marleau and his kids all the time? Why the hell have we not heard similar with the NYR?

Instead we have prospects like Andersson and Kravtsov fleeing the org and experiencing conflict with the org.

I’m not saying the players are blameless, do not get me wrong. But it sure seems like the entire org can give 2 shits about their development. And there is no doubt the players can feel that every single day.

He gets too much grief here. After scoring 52 goals last year he is on pace for 37 this year. He has played to his contract so far which is far less money than some other guys on this team.

This franchise has always had a terrible record at firing a coach that needed to have got gone much earlier. Sather backed Torts then fired him after a week. It took so long for Vigneault to be fire, Vigneault had time to write a 5 minute speech about his 20 year career and present it at his game 82 post game presser. They took so long to fire Quinn, Gorton and Davidson got fired before Quinn did.

Can we just for once fire a guy in a timely manner and before the car is already over the cliff before we pump the brakes?
