I think we'll take whichever one is there at #4. I would be surprised if both are there. My guess is Babcock would love the stud two way D man to build around while management would like the forward with high end skill from TO. You really can't go wrong with either. I actually think i've changed my mind and would take Hanifin even though i've wanted a FW up until now. Any team with a stud D core is bound to be good but not necessarily a stud forward group (see Edmonton... or us a in 12-13) and we'd have Rielly, Hanifin, Gardiner and Percy + maybe another good D from the 2015 draft to build around.

Also I know it's a long way from now especially for kids but at the moment it seems like next year's top 10 will be mainly forwards so i'd take the D-man while we can get one. Then next year we can go for someone like Logan Brown who is a 6'5 C who's good defensively and put up a solid 0.77 PPG in his first junior year. In comparison Marner was 0.92 and Strome was 0.65 in their first years.

They are both correct choices.

I voted Marner because I relish the idea of having a dynamic and well-rounded elite forward.

Picking Hanifin is the correct choice as well because having potential franchise guys like Rielly and Hanifin would set us up for over a decade.

That's a luxury that maybe a couple teams in the league have.

What do most cup winners have?
Keith, Doughty, Chara, Lidstrom, Pronger.

Start with Hanifin and trade Rielly for the center that we need. Draisaitl? A REAL rebuild.

I'll just say that Draisaitl is definitely not the center that we need. If we ever trade Rielly, why the hell would it be for him?

Why would we even trade Rielly? Some hockey rule no one ever heard of that says you can't have 2 good dmen?

If Marner is to developed as a center then definitely marner.

If Marner is to be developed as a winger then definitely hanifin.

I'm not too keen on getting a winger. Bleh.

If we did draft Hanifin do you guys think he and Rielly would go on different pairings or would one shift over to the right side?

It would make sense to have them on different pairings.

Rielly - ?
Hanifin - ?
Percy - ?

Defence would be pretty much set for a decade.

I voted Hanifan. Even if he isn't the stud he projects to be, with his size and skating there's no way he won't be effective. And good D can play 25+ mins a night. And they generally take longer to develop then Forwards so it makes sense to start the rebuild with an emphasis on D. Plus we have several promising but small right handed shots up front already in Nylander and Brown. Having said that, if management is convinced Marner will be better then I won't be upset if they take him

I voted for Hanifin an hour or so ago....and I've already changed my mind! Haha. This stuff must drive scouts/managers crazy!!!

Marner has so much top end skill that it's tough to ignore!

The correct answer is, you cannot go wrong with either.

I put Hanifin/Marner/Barzal on equal terms, would be happy with any of three. thought, fort he sake of the poll, I will slightly prefer Marner by a hair because I have seen him play quite a lot and he never disappoints ever.

So does Hanifin. He does it all and can be the sexy rusher type if required. Drafting Hanifin would be like acquiring a young Brian Leetch.

I think Hanifin is the clear #3 in the draft and then it's a coin flip with Marner/Strome.

But I really won't be upset whomever the team picks of those three.

scoring has not been the problem this past decade...our offense has been solid...we cant stop teams from scoring on us, im tired of this crap...if potential elite dmen fall to us and we dont draft em, then fck us, we're idiots

hanifin is a bigger, stronger, longer, morgan rielly
