70+ games left to improve and prove himself. Allow him some grace. We've seen what he can do. He'll get there again.

(I hope).

The sad fact is if he sucks, so does this team. Miller or Horvat aren't going to carry this team.

Did Pettersson not train or practice at all this off-season? He is slower, still easy to knock down, and receives passes as if they were grenades. What is going on here? I realize Pettersson hasn't played much hockey the past two seasons due to injury, but how does a player of his calibre look so mediocre? I thought he was going to come out of the gates flying, but this Pettersson is nothing near the Pettersson from two seasons ago. Truly bizarre.

Couldn't tell he even played today...

At least Hughes is being noticeable. This is so sad.

I believe he was training with Hughes in Michigan. Just not with the team.
I mean Hughes looks fine, so.....

Only ripping on EP cause he should be so much better than this. This team will sink if he can't get his sht together.

I hate to go there and it's the epitome of armchair doctor but I'm genuinely concerned about his mental health.

Maybe it's from injuries last season, the contract battle this summer, and missing camp. Maybe he's playing to get the coach fired. But it's not a good combination when the most competitive guy on the team, who we know is harder on himself than anyone else and his own biggest critic, looks this lifeless. Rookie Petey looked like he'd slit your throat for a win.

Yeah, I'm starting to have concerns here too. Like you I don't like being an armchair doctor so maybe I wouldn't go as far as 'mental health' but certainly something in his mindset seems very lost.

That clip from last year where he didn't even move when the team won in OT is one of the most absolutely bizarre things I've ever seen.

His body language has been absolutely horrific for two years now. Last year I thought it was just a pout over poor management but seeing it get even worse this year is ... man. f***ing strange.

Looks like Green has sucked out the creativity out of Petterson. He gets over the blue line and just dumps it off now. It also looks like his line changes come way too fast.

On a side note, Boeser on the 4v4 was the most creative I’ve seen him since his rookie year.

It's like FAQ came into the locker room himself to give EP40 a pep talk and it had the opposite effect.

The last ten minutes of the game today was the worst I’ve seen him play. There was a play where he barely made a 10 foot pass to a teammate. It’s going to be painful watching him and McDavid on the same ice on Saturday.

Up until last game, I thought it was all rust and confidence, but he had some really odd stumbles and weak passes. His play seems to get worse as the game goes on, resulting in a couple truly awful third periods..leg strength/energy doesn't seem to be there.

I'm starting to think this might be related to why Edler and Schmidt wanted out so badly. Something badly wrong with the internal dynamic that's just eating away at people, maybe dissatisfaction with the coaching, management, internal personality conflicts...

Something's just not right, you can feel it.

That's a really good point. Schmidt wanted out immediately, and I remember Edler saying that he just wasn't having fun anymore. Maybe whatever affected these former Canucks could now be affecting Pettersson. The problem is, there is so much wrong with this franchise, it really could be anything.

Time to start from the top, and flush Benning and Green down the toilet. This clearly isn't working.

He is definitely struggling but to me it seems none of the players have any idea what to do under whatever greens "system" is

This. He looked so mentally strong and engaged his 1st season. Now he’s out there looking like somebody killed his puppy. He looked exactly like this to start last year too, a polar opposite from his rookie self.

I don’t understand how he can still be so incredibly weak on his skates at this point, it’s embarrassing.

Petey just needs to get the monkey off his back, it happens in sports, you are hot and then you are cold

things for him are just amplified because he is our best player, it’s concerning for sure but I don’t think it’s some internal issue, let’s not get all Q anon on this, Petey just needs some confidence

I’ve been saying/thinking this since last season, something is rotten, his body language says it all

He needs a healthy scratch if we struggled after the oilers game. Maybe lining him up against mcdavid will lite a fire under him. If he struggles scratch him for one game and have him observe the rangers game as a perspective. But either way horrible timing to have both our top 2 centres struggle and Brock struggle at the same time.

We're lucky we haven't faced a team with a nasty defender on it yet. Him bumbling around the puck in his feet and searching for it is a easy way to get absolutely rocked.

He's in for some pain if he doesn't keep his head up.

All this talk about healthy scratching him or taking him off powerplay one are hilarious because the team literally has no one else to put in his spot.
