I think people need to lighten up on Petey...the guy missed an extended period with an injury, missed training camp, is playing with quite a few new players, and with guys who really aren't firing on all cylinders themselves...yes, he looks like shit out there, but he's still just a 22 year old kid who just signed a huge contract and is likely feeling the pressure to produce, while working his way back into proper game shape after an extended period away from playing actual NHL games.

Too many excuses...
At the end the day, he's being paid as the best player on the team and he's clearly not producing enough nor controlling the game like one.
Just how many games does he need? 20? I would expect a player of his supposed caliber wouldn't be completely lost because of missing training camp.
What's worry some is how far of a former shell he is from his rookie season.
He looks like he's struggling more and more each season. At this point, I find it incredible hard to see him being a pt/game player.
At least the other team still respects his shot on the PP, but he hasn't scored from that spot in ages... unless you're counting funny bounces off the backboard.
You say excuses because you only see the situation from a fans perspective.

Open up your range of awareness and notice how Petey’s regression is how prospects usually develop and vets usually become while working for this employer.

If you’re being paid 7m+ a year to play elite hockey, you should not be distracted by club dynamics. You are being paid millions to put a rubber puck into a net on an ice surface. Do it. It’s not more complicated than that. The only reason hockey clubs and the NHL even exists is to entertain fans and entice them to pay to watch the players perform at a high level.

Yep, its just that simple...which is why its rare for players to have slumps in professional sports.

This is actually the way I feel about Pettersson. Except I would change it to his first 2 seasons he looked like that.

Good points by Ray..especially the part about the desperation in EP's play in the first two years of his career..If he coughed up the puck back then, he would work like hell to get it back...Not seeing that hunger in his play this season (or last season either).

No. It's time to take him down a peg after he seemingly made those disloyal statements in the offseason. :DD

They got lucky and won a bunch of coin-flips in a small sample. 3 regulation wins in 11 games is right in line with how crappy they were all year. Unless the argument is that the team was better in the shootout without Petey, it's meaningless.

The team was complete ass from the start of the season right through to the very end. They won 4 in a row with Pettersson, lost 6 in a row with Pettersson before COVID and lost 6 in a row without him after COVID. Chopping up the season in this way to force a silly narrative is just that.

They still played their best hockey in March without EP , but go ahead and keep trying to deny it.

I'll remember for the next time then when EP has a good game offensively and they win, just talk about how good Demko was and he only got those points then because how good Demko played, since that's all that seems to matter.

When does it start going the other way? Every time I think Petey is looking his worst in the middle of this "funk", he shows up in the next game and plays even worse than that. When does he hit bottom? Hopefully soon, because we need him on the upswing.

Not worried about this elite talent, he missed a lot of hockey, but it sure is painful to see him work his cobwebs out in the season.
