Speculation: Habs heavily scouting Flyers

The habs are doing very well right now so I just can't see them trading MaxP. The Flyers aren't ready to complete right now so they need to keep their young talent and let them grow, so I can't see them trading Schenn.

No "major" deal makes sense to me. Habs could use a minor upgrade to their top 4 so to me the most logical target is MDZ. The question is what the cost would be.

he is quite good at shooting, certainly a good 2 way player ... but when it come to give all his heart into the game, his security and self proclamed future is the only option for him .... he won't get shoot for anyone, and here in Quebec we don't respect such a weak mind.

That would be a problem for us as well, mon ami - we don't respect that kind of thing at all either.

Thank you. It is very obvious to me that MDZ is the person the Habs are scouting. Even Habs fans at the start of the season were saying the #1 priority would be a good skating, puck-moving LD to play with Weber when I said let's see who we have. Now that we know what we're dealing with, a deal in that department is likely. There was even word out last week that the Habs were looking for a defenseman. MDZ is a free agent at the end of the season so Philly could be looking to get something for him.

Because they have extremely short memories and very little patience. Bad combination.

Exactly this. If Pacioretty wasn't slumping we wouldn't be seeing him in every proposal. That said, if we could get Schenn and a good prospect for Pacioretty than I'd think about it.

because on most nights he plays like he would literally like to be anywhere else. He has all the talent in the world but just dogs it most nights. Never plays anywhere but the perimeter and once every game or so with throw on hit and then his quota is filled.

He's a first line talent who is moving up and down the lineup because 1) he's not producing 2) he looks and acts completely disinterested. He will play this way for long long stretches and a lot of the points he gets are " lottery" points or his specialty, empty netters.

if he played like he gave a damn he could be a force in the league, but a lot of fans think that ship has sailed.

You forget to mention, he's excellent defensively, scores on average 35 goals per season on a sweetheart contract of $4.5M per and is our captain.

He's on an off year and it's difficult to tell why. Maybe, team captain is too much stress and distraction for him. We'd probably regret trading him, he's our top LW.

That's a good offer, I don't want to trade MaxPac but I'm a huge Schenn fan. Plus getting rid of DD makes it that much better.

Whats the realistic view of his next contract? Somewhere in the 6.5ish long term range?

I'd love to get a legit top line LW, but I just don't think we can afford him when, as someone pointed out previously, everyone on the team needs a new deal that same year his is up.

Wouldn't do a trade based around Pleks and Schenn.
Flyers are rebuilding and are cap constrained. Our organizational needs are LW and C although they could be interested in Provorovs workout buddy Sergachev. My guess the Habs are trying to move Pacioretty (not to us) and might be looking at Read to fill some of his duties for a relatively modest cost.

To get something of real value for the Flyers, they would have to package Couturier to get a top line player (center/wing/whatever). They could also downgrade on the offense a bit and go after a more complete 2 way defenseman. Either way, I'm sure Hextall won't trade Ghost.

or because a fanbase cannot live on empty net points alone. At this point if we moved casperetty, it suspect it would takee a while for people to realize he had been traded as opposed to another one of his disappearing acts.

he's on a good contract for his talent, if you are paying him based on his effort, its a bad deal man.

What would it seriously take for the Flyers to land Sergachev to play with his buddy Provorov?

I could see Bergevin wanting B.Schenn + one of Streit or MDZ. Desharnais would need to be include in this. Remember Weise said he is a great center. ;)

We'd probably have to add to Pacioretty to get Simmonds. For all intensive purposes, both players offer fairly similar production at decent cap charges, however you don't see Flyers fans adding Simmonds to every other trade proposal on these boards haha.
Simmonds is a RW, though, which we don't need. If Pacioretty goes, we'd need a LW back, like Brayden Schenn.

But why send the Assistant GM for a minor trade?

Hence the "intensive purposes" ascribed by some to what is probably a non-story. Mellanby has a long-time connection to the city and has an ex-teammate as the GM of the Flyers. Could be he's in town for something else and just taking in games on account of being there. These team rep. attendance extrapolations are the lot of fake insiders.

MDZ scratched tonight. For Andrew MacDonald. As Les up there mentioned, maybe there are legs to this trade talk after all. Probably not, but ... Andrew MacDonald. Can I SMH and face palm at the same time? Wait, I'm going to try ...

The only thing I can see is Pacioretty + for Simmonds or a LD that can log 20+ minutes to play with Weber. Emelin is obviously not that guy.

Montreal is contending so IF they put Sergachev on the table it will likely be in a package for an impact player.
