What MTL fans don't realize is that they could indirectly impact his development or desire to stay in Montreal past his RFA years. It's a lose/lose situation.
The hypocrisy here....

-Galchenyuk, 3rs OA. Drafted by Bergy. Montreal fans had no issues with him at all, they welcomed him with open arms.
Result: Coach did not like him, under used him, he got injured, was struggling and partying... gets traded. Fans were not involved

-Kotka, 3OA, Drafted by Bergy, Montreal fans learned to like him
Result: Management did not match the offer sheet because of reasons. Fans were not involved

-Subban, Drafted by Gainey, Fan favourite, city loves him, he loves the city back
Result: Coach, org dint like him, through him under the bus publicly, traded him at his prime for an aging Weber. Fans were not involved

The Habs organisation does not need any help to negatively impact prospects development and desire to stay here... They're doing an excellent job at it themselfs.

And they should know by now, the fans want a show. When you have a chance to draft a top player, you do it, for the love of the fans. Thats my opinion

Hab fans are no worse then any other fan base....if this had happened to the Leafs or Rangers or Flyers, you would also have a segment of over reactions.....it just that the Habs have one of the largest fan bases so thus you will have a subset of overly passionate fans that take things a little to seriously.....But to suggest that this is unique to the Hab fan base is absolute nonsense.....

Habs are clearly different than the other teams, considering the culture/language difference in where the majority of their fans reside.

Ya, if these reports are true it’s a bit disingenuous and off to say “every fan base has crazies!” It’s true, but in some places the issue seems worse, and this is about a specific instance where it seems to be happening. It’s worth looking into what that specific case is about so you can try to better things, instead of saying “nut jobs always exist, can’t solve it, let’s move on.”
Montreal simply has more fans, of course there will be more of the worst.

She looks looney
She was Zadina’s billet mother and Kotkaniemi was chosen over him. It was widely thought Zadina would be drafted where Kotkaniemi was.

I think the people who don’t watch prospects get psyched up by the few who do, than they start to pump up the people who know even less, until it becomes self perpetuating and everyone has been convinced that Brady Tkachuk’s ceiling is the third line. Or that Wright is the right pick even though the consensus first overall throughout the entire year got passed over by 3 teams, and isn’t even the first center taken.
I personally have no rights to get psyched up about any draft choice. I compared B. Tkachuk, Zadina and Kotkaniemi a lot before the draft and to me the habs made the best choice between the 3. I thought Zadina’s game would not transfer well to the NHL and did not see anything special with Tkachuk… Man I was wrong on that one !

I’m pretty sure this has been debunked as false, but am too lazy to confirm.

Yeah and I was pissed off when we drafted Price, thought we were going to regret not drafting Brule. I’ll leave the draft picks to the professionals. At the end of the day they sat down with Mitchkov and decided he wasn’t the guy, until it’s proven to be the right/wrong selection, I’ll put my trust in them.

I think they had their minds made up on mm long before the draft week interviews.

As much as I agree fans had no responsabilities in any of these guys leaving Montreal. There was a minority of vocal fans that didn't like Subban's attitude. Many in the media as well. Lots from Canada outside Quebec. Namely the old guy with the ugly suits.

Habs hiring only bilingual management has really hurt them in the past decade... hiring player agent Hughes looks like a big disaster so far...

Top dman goes 6th as predicted.

Hf: oh my ****, can you believe it - I can't believe it.

This f***ing place. Some of you should check odds on this stuff, you know people actually putting their money where their mouth is. Michkov/Leonard/Reinbacher all right around the 3.25 line. There's nothing surprising here. There's nothing disappointing here.

Counter it, I'll wait , I'm not even a fan of hiring bilingual coaches but clearly you're just hating to hate , also your fandom is open for everybody to see so I don't understand how you can chirp , we literally all see the team you cheer for its right there in your username. You won't counter the argument though its pretty obvious

Can we stop already with that ill-conceived argument? Coach and GM are the only two members of the staff that are expected to be bilingual. Nothing prevents those two from hiring anybody in their staff. Moreover, nothing even prevent any unilingual anglophone to be hired and learn french as a second language. Did people already forgot Bob Gainey being GM for 7 years? Gorton being VP right now?

People bringing that up have that kind of underlying reasoning that Montreal are limiting their options. And it often comes with the assumption that there's obviously must be an english speaking coach that would make a better choice. Well guess what? 95% of management in the NHL speaks english only and there's about 4 coaches by team. So there's about 120-130 anglo coaches in the NHL at any given time. Dallas Eakins has coached 2 NHL teams in the last decade, ffs. That's how low the bar is.

Truth is francophone and as europeans are underrepresented in the NHL and we all know how much of a boys club it is. There's about 3-4 elite coaches in the NHL. After that, the mid-field is wide open. Instead of giving a crapshoot with a random assistant coach in St. Louis, Montreal is likely to give it in their own backyard because they're pretty much the only ones scouting there. Almost every francos who landed coaches or GM jobs in the last 20 years had to get a job in Montreal or Ottawa first before even being considered elsewhere (Lemaire, Vigneault, Julien, Therrien, Boucher, Brisebois, Tourigny). The belief that Montreal is somewhat missing on that boy wonder savior is disingenuous.

Af for Hughes, we're barely a year and a half in his reign. What's the disaster? Prospects not being the ones hyped on HFBoards. Because we're so spot on when it comes to prospects ranking, right?

We'll wait and let the results will speak for themselves. Until them, we're all just talking out of our as*es.

That's an incredible amount of enmity shown to this kid. It's not surprising, though. Every day on this site and others, I get to read how guys who have gone through all the rigors necessary to become NHL players are critiqued as "garbage," "trash," "morons," on a regular basis. It's not, "He has a low panic threshold," or "He lacks explosiveness." He gets called "garbage" lol. I didn't have to play in the NHL to know I should be humble enough to at least respect what these guys did to get there and what they do to stay there.

HF loves to shit on recycled GMs/HCs, yet they keep hating on us for trying new management. Typical HF hypocrisy, or dare I say, xenophobia.

Kent Hughes will probably do well just by doing the opposite of what the fan base wants with prospects. They begged Bergevin to take Zadina over Brady Tkachuk. They were in disbelief when they didn't take the great Shane Wright despite scouts saying all year that he wasn't it.

As far as my understanding, the only team that requires both coach and GM (two most important management positions by far) to speak both english and french is the Habs... so that may lead to your team not having the best possible GM or coach at any given time because of this self imposed team policy. PERIOD. lol

I understand the coach needs to speak french to speak with/to the fans (makes perfect sense) but why the GM??

Can't be a good enough reason to hire a guy like Hughes lmfao

PS Hughes made by far the worst trade this offseason as well (Newhook for 1st and 2nd) cap relief for the Avs... and the "accelerating the rebuild" comment shows me Hughes has an ego bigger, balder and shinier than his head...

I do hope it works out though, I miss the rivalry...

If my org tanked and then passed up Cooley, Michkov, Leonard, Nemec, Tkachuk and Hughes for Reinbacher, Slaf and Kotkaniemi...I'd be pissed too!

They've been really smart in a lot of ways, but the top picks + the strange moves (Newhook?) set the rebuild back. Imagine if they had Cooley, Michkov and Tkachuk right now?
Cooley and Michkov are yet to play an NHL game lol. Shitting on a prospect the day he's drafted, let alone sending f***ing death threats on him, is a sign that you are in serious need of help.

What rivalry? We've met once and you guys got stomped. There is no rivalry on ice with Toronto , never has been for the vast majority of habs fans alive today
