I think Hab fans are just demoralized after the past couple of years. They wanted something to be excited about. Michkov was it. So while they go through another season out of the playoffs they would have this overrated prospect to look forward to.

Sure, but when you read those mock drafts, they were largely qualified by saying it's probably a reach of a pick because team's value the position more than anything.

It doesn’t matter the reasoning behind it, more than half the mocks thought he was going 5-6. Moreover, the vast majority had him as the best d-man in the draft. So if your think that the team will indeed value the position, that hardly makes it a reach.

In that scenario, I’m sure there’s a noticeable difference.

People in here are fan enough to post on a forum dedicated to hockey. People who thrashed the pick (and the player) are a lot more likely to be casual fans who never heard of the guy before and knew Mitchkov’s name because of mainstream medias. You’ll likely find a lot more of those on Twitter and Facebook.

I gotta think the Venn diagram between people posting here and people harassing Reinbacher is a lot more overlappy than you'd be comfortable seeing. Admittedly, I cannot prove shit all. But we aren't somewhere where that even matters.

It’s unfortunately inevitable that some of them post here (or at least have accounts). But as a guy living in Quebec who gets to read hundreds of comments about the Habs on social medias every day (even in mid-August) you rapidly get a general profile of extreme haters and people who go too far. I can assure you the enormous majority of them don’t display a level of hockey interest/understanding deep enough to roam around these parts. Nor the level of literacy we generally encounter on here.

But yeah. There’s a few poster I’d fully expect to find in that overlapping space.

It is so amazing how people who have seen maybe a few games of 2 prospects (and in most cases 0, just a few highlights or reports) can have such strong opinions on who their team should have drafted.

I think the people who don’t watch prospects get psyched up by the few who do, than they start to pump up the people who know even less, until it becomes self perpetuating and everyone has been convinced that Brady Tkachuk’s ceiling is the third line. Or that Wright is the right pick even though the consensus first overall throughout the entire year got passed over by 3 teams, and isn’t even the first center taken.

It only takes a few mentally unstable people to send a thousands of hate messages.

Also, knowing the landscape, I'd suggest that more than quite a few of these messages didn't even come from Habs fans, but from Habs haters.
