Guentzel is a Pavelski type. He has no natural skills so I don't see why his aging curve would have any issues.
I think he's been a shade more timid down low and in front since getting taken down and driven into the boards shoulder first, but agreed his value is between his ears more than any physical trait. Should age like wine.

And how do they do that? Saying "get creative", "fit them in", etc. isn't a real solution or idea. That's just wishful thinking. Again, how do you re-sign Hronek, Zadorov, Lindholm AND sign Guentzel for their reported asking price?

And no, "trade Mikheyev" doesn't cut it for an answer.
Buying out Mikheyev saves 4 million.
There is absolutely a scenario where with 28 million they consider signing him along with Lindholm.
Everyone is so hung up on them keeping Zadorov and Joshua while management clearly has stated Lindholm and finding EP a winger are paramount.

You sign those two you likely have 10-12 million left. With Hronek you can sign him, trade him or even go arbitration for one year to save money, ( not ideal obviously) guys like Raty, Karlson, Podkolzin will help keep the cap down and there's a very good chance Lekkerimakki and EP2 make the jump at some point

My point is there's a lot of ways Alvin can go this summer and while he can't sign everyone he can certainly add Jake and keep Lindholm and still have a chunk of cap left

I really don’t understand Guentzel being connected to Chicago.
They’re going to have of Jones and Gunetzel on the cap sheet, while the rest of their core is in their prime?
Keep it short with the older UFAs.
Acquire and/or sign younger guys for long-term (Debrusk makes sense)

Debrusk is only two years younger than Guentzel and won’t have half the impact that a guy the caliber of Guentzel will have playing with Bedard. I would almost guarantee Guentzel will continue to be a higher caliber player than Debrusk for pretty much the entire remainder of their careers.

Your window can open quickly with a guy like Bedard. The plan should not be to have a generational player and then not surround him with the best talent you can. Guentzel could elevate Bedard to another level this season and the Hawks could be very competative within a couple of years…well within the timeframe the Jake should still be a first line player.

Like it did with edmonton? There's so much more than one or two players. It's a huge supporting cast and a bunch of luck. Like your opponent on their 3rd string goalie and no 1RW.

As a Hawks fan, I'd rather they not throw a bunch of money at him. We are nowhere close to being competitive again and hes going to be 30 when next season starts. No thanks.
I don't know if Guentzel would be for this, but seems like a good opportunity for a 3x8.5M overpay contract or something. Trade him at the deadline in a few years for assets.

Second thought, Guentzel probably wants 6/7 years

From what ive heard he wants max term, which makes sense given hell be 30 this year and won't have another opportunity to cash in

Man if the Leafs has an ounce of creativity they'd move off Marner for some assets and sign Guentzal to 9.5 x 7

Of course this hinges on Guentzal liking Toronto as a destination

I thought that the 8th year was only possible if the player was on the team at the trade dateline.

But I might be wrong...

As of 2020, this was amended:

> CBA §50.8(b)(iv) shall be amended to provide that when a Club acquires a Player who is signed through the subsequent Trade Deadline, it can immediately sign him to an 8-year SPC without waiting until the subsequent Trade Deadline if otherwise permitted to do so under Section 50.5(f).

The only team that can currently give Guentzel 8 years is Carolina. They can sign-and-trade him.

Exactly Canes will sign and trade to bump up the return of the rights pick. but Chicago makes the most sense to play with Bedard. Chicago will have enough younger talent to have a cup winner and all star forward who will give Bedard his know how after playing with Sid.

I don't think this involves Vancouver at all. We don't have a lot of picks or any cap space .
With Mikheyev gone they have 31 million in cap. Lindholm and a winger for EP has to be top priority.
I think if there's a mutual interest you find a way. Jake is a stud.

Ok? That doesn’t mean you sit on your hands and don’t do everything possible to create a supportive environment for your young superstar. I didn’t say they’d be Cup contenders by year two or three, but they could definitely be competitive.

Their best forwards outside of Bedard last year were 80 year-old Nick Foligno, Jason Dickinson who had a career high of 9 goals before last year and Phil Kurashev, a 4th round Swiss winger who also had a career high of 9 goals.

The age thing with Guentzel potentially on the Hawks and him not “being in their window” is hilariously overblown. When you have Bedard you aren’t looking 5 years down the road to try and compete.

I’d be hard pressed to think of a more ideal winger to pair with Bedard as he continues his development. Jake can dish, score, plays with intelligence and has spent his career playing off of “center of gravity” superstar centers in Pittsburgh. The nuance and experience he could add to Bedard’s line would be invaluable. This isn’t just about paying for a veteran winger, it’s about adding one the league’s best “complimentary superstars” to maximize Bedard’s developmental curve.

Come on, Jake. You know you want to come to Vancouver. He could help be a major push to help the Canucks get through the playoff rounds
