Even when you send your weaker teams, you are always at the very least a top-3 favourite.

Not fair..

Yeah a bit of perspective is in order. The team is filled with first round picks just like every other year.

Some countries would kill to have players Canada doesn't even invite to their selection camp.

No. He was pretty good overall, particularly in the third.

Was fairly average until he took a questionable high stick penalty in the third and then that seemed to fire him up. Definitely was playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder after that. He really needs to carry that play over against Sweden and build on it though.

The Crouse-Strome-Virtanen line was quite dominant in the third and were unlucky to not find the back of the net.

Back-to-back games and against a team that Canada was soo looking past. The Swiss roster is full of kids who play against men in the NLA. Canada usually plays badly against the Swiss for whatever reason. The Swiss beat Canada's Olympic team 2-0 in 2006 and scared the hell out of Canada in 2010 at home in Vancouver when they took our Olympic team to a similar 3-2 SO result. Switzerland also beat Canada 3-2 in a SO at the 2013 WHC (where the Swiss won silver and Canada was out of the medals) and thumped Canada 4-1 at the 2010 WHC. So lighten up people.

Pretty sure that penalty happened early in the 2nd period, and he was good from then out. Drew the penalty to lead to the 5-on-3 late in the 2nd by taking a beating in front, without retaliating (although it could've been called a crease violation).

I wouldn't say non factor.

I definitely notice him every shift and his puck skills are insane. Lowry needs to scale back his shifts because he his one of the smaller forwards and frankly at 18 that's fine.

He's getting a bit too abused around the boards but that's hardly shocking, he needs some line mates that will do some of the mucking for him so he doesn't need to do it all himself.

Perhaps wording his play as a non factor is too much. He's been very underwhelming compared the guy I've grown accustomed to watching in London, though. Just feel like he is trying to do too much out there and isn't making smart choices with the puck.

Hardly want to be inflammatory, just want to see Marner play the way I know he can. Like I said, I'm on his side - he's easily my favourite prospect outside of the NHL.

non factor I suppose would go to Perlini. What he has done to be ahead of Beauvillier in the lineup is beyond me..

They were the only line that was able to physically push around the Swiss to win battles and cycle the puck around.

Definitely not flashy but very effective.

What do you mean?

Beauvillier should be as engaged offensively as Barzal has been so far. I'm not buying that this Team Canada offense is any weaker than some of the previous editions especially the few ones from 2010 to 2013. The players are underperforming and I'm not a fan of Lowry.

It seems that Lowry noticed that too because Perlini had I think only one shift in the 3rd period. It was the first time that Lowry cut his bench to 3 lines and finished the game with:
Crouse-Strome-Virtanen
Chartier-Point-Marner
Beauvillier-Barzal-Gauthier

We didnt see much of the Quenneville-Stephens-Konecny line (maybe 2 shifts?) while Perlini was the 13th forward.

I think Beauvillier should be use on the 2nd PP unit with Barzal and Gauthier. I don't quite understand why Perlini or Chartier are there instead of him.

Yeah Perlini has really been the most underwhelming forward of the tournament IMO.

Thankfully those spoiled Yotes have Strome playing well.

I cringed the first time I saw you make that Spott comparison but it's becoming more and more apparent.

The Spott comparison dawned on me from the beginning of training camp - it wasn't even Lowry's on-ice decisions. It was the obnoxious way he came off in interviews that made me suspicious we had another Spott on our hands. I will not be anxious to start saying "I told you so" because that would mean Canada played terrible at the tournament...but let's just say I am deeply concerned at this point.

Virtenan not scoring is killing them.NHL player there and not producing is bad.Pastrnak scored very 1st game after flying all nite.lol

Overall it was a disappointing effort by Canada. They were tired and appeared unprepared, but they found a way to win. Regarding Marner the expectations are so high as he is a Leaf draft choice and is constantly being portrayed by TSN as a superstar. Marner's game has been inconsistent. He's shown flashes of brilliance but needs to do so more than just a couple of times a game. Up against bigger and stronger players is not easy when you're only 160 lbs. Marner just needs time to physically mature, then watch out. Next year will be his turn to shine. For me the most talented player so far has been Barzal.

people acting like this team has no chance are hilarious, don't jump back on the bandwagon if they beat Sweden, they might not be as good as last year but they're still an immensely talented team who's a contender

If they play to their potential, sure, which they haven't shown yet or even near it for some players.

Better team lost.

This is NONSENSE...Swiss, after shortening their bench, were gassed late in the third and were just hanging on.

Swiss played a good game...BUT our guys were the ones playing on back to back days, and showed some moxy coming back from 2 down...and very nearly winning it in regulation

Swiss, with 2 of their suspended guys back in the fold, played a high tempo and physical first period...And looked more like the potential giant killers people expected them to be pre-tourney...

Opponent Canada faced today bore no relation to the team that lost to the Danes...
