If true, I'm gunna go ahead and call this the first long term hometown discount DL has gotten in the Cup Contending Era. Greene on the open market is worth more IMO, especially after a good playoffs.

Don't mind that deal. Four years is a bit lengthy but the annual average is palatable.

That' why it's 4 years, to spread the money out and it makes him easier to trade later on. I can't see his body lasting 4 years, he's not looked the same since his surgery. His speed and reactions weren't the same which was evident vs the Hawks and DUcks esp inthe playoffs. I can't help thinking of all the games he was a healthy scratch for and what that means next year.

A few days of detail work left on Matt Greene's new contract with the LA Kings. Expected: 4 years, $10 mil...annual average of $2.5 mil.

Not the worst thing in the world. Hopefully he can increase his foot speed a little and mend up better this offseason.

If true, that cap hit isn't half bad.

Thought he'd be gone for sure, but was holding off until the terms had surfaced.

2.5 is really by good, I'd have to imagine DL agreed to more years for a smaller cap hit.

Yes very good. Now a little off topic, okay a lot.

BTW will there be a live stream from the awards and when will it be in hours and minutes from the time this post was posted post or just time and timezone? ..NHL.com I guess would have something streamed..right?

Yep - guaranteed he is going to be out injured for some of that...but it's a great opportunity for some of the new guys to get some experience.

I still don't know how much Greene really adds to this team. Our record without him was better than with. He is a great leader, though.

Greene's contract is sorta okay in an of itself if you think he's going to be traded down the line. The problem with signing him is that a) we already have Regehr and b) we might not be able to keep Mitchell.

Mitchell logged a lot of quality minutes on the 2nd pairing, and that is how we got 2 cups in 3 years. Regehr can't match that. If it costs us Mitchell, this is why people are concerned.

Yep. It'll be interesting to see if Greene plays to the end of this contract as a King, but as of right now the cap hit is completely manageable, great work by Lombardi.

Playoffs:
3-3 w/o Greene
13-7 w/ Greene

I remember making the opposite assumption by accident after mishearing one of the color analysts awhile back. Our goals per game always increases quite a bit with him in the line-up than not, which might be counter-intuitive unless you think about how calming of a presence he can be to allow Martinez to enter the rush.

Better to bring Greene back than to try to find a replacement if/when the Kings are hit with injuries on the blueline or some young guy struggles. The Kings would also have to overpay to sign a UFA to play the same role, so it makes sense to bring Greene back at that $2.5M.
