Greene's contract is sorta okay in an of itself if you think he's going to be traded down the line. The problem with signing him is that a) we already have Regehr and b) we might not be able to keep Mitchell.

Mitchell logged a lot of quality minutes on the 2nd pairing, and that is how we got 2 cups in 3 years. Regehr can't match that. If it costs us Mitchell, this is why people are concerned.

Regehr and Greene play different sides.

If anything might cost the Kings Mitchell, it's the play of Muzzin and Martinez. Regehr was fine as the year went on. The Kings even beat the Ducks without both Mitchell and Regehr.

Nope, but I can now pee without making the bathroom floor a mess.

I wonder - if Greene has been brought back so affordably, and if Mitchell departs as presumed, would we look at bringing back Schultz as well? Quick affordable depth we somewhat know. Greene and Schultz 's combined cap hits would not be so different from Mitchell's, despite the dropoff in ability.

Use Greene, McNabb, Schultz as our 6,7,8 options, roll with 8 defenders?

Well I would think it would be obvious that i would care if i was asking :shakehead. I think if your going to post stats like that you should have included the regular season stats so it would show the differences.

Well, it doesn't matter to me or I would've posted them. It's indicative of nothing anyway since pinning wins and losses on one guy is not exactly how it works..certainly not in Sutter & Lombardi's world.

Look, I said back in April to a bunch of posters here who were already throwing Greene under the bus that we would need him for the Playoffs and that they better get comfortable with that fact. They did and he performed extremely well overall, especially in clutch games. Read Rosen's latest article talking about Greene's Corsi numbers and his clutch playoff performances this year.

Here's what I got assuming Greene's $2.5M, Gabbo at $5.8M, King at $1.4M & McNabb at $1M. At 22 Roster spots...that leaves >$2.4M for one more spot, or maybe a kid gets a shot for much less. Just my shot at it.

The Kings went with 8 defensemen at the start of the 13-14 season, but that was because nobody was sure about Mitchell. Once that was settled, the Kings lost Ellerby to waivers, and things went from there. From what they said, Regehr was healthy enough to play during the Final, so, there's not the question mark that existed with Mitchell going into the summer of 2013.

Schultz played well in the Ducks series. I think he'll be looking for something else. Plenty of teams looking for blueline help. Carrying 8 defensemen in the regular season on a consistent basis is probably on the rare side. Just not enough spots for everyone to play. I doubt Schultz wants to go back to the AHL. Same with Campbell too.

Well I was just was asking if you had the regular season and didn't appreciate the who cares line. There are people out there that would have wanted the regular season numbers like myself. Yes i know you can't and shouldn't be pinning numbers on one player. However there was several posters posting the numbers of Martinez in and Greene out and i was curious on the final numbers on it. I wasn't throwing anyone under the bus i just wanted to know the final numbers of it all .

My apologies. I'm hyper-sensitive about Greene bashers. Too many of them, IMO.

I will give FW credit, he was pretty much the only guy who still believed in Greene towards the end of this season (probably coaches included), so I see no issue with him gloating a little bit.

I also believe FW was pretty vocal in keeping Carter at wing with Richards, so you win some you lose some :)

If Richards is in shape...and takes his fitness seriously, which was the REAL issue, don't be surprised to to see me be right about that one too next season. :)

I like it, could even go up to 6-6.5 for Gabby if we had to.

Perhaps but I think there's a glut of D-men in Manchester even with McNabb on the Kings.

Bodnarchuk, LoVerde, Roach, MacDermid, Gravel, Miller, Forbort, Ebert not much room for Schultz or anyone else for that matter unless one or two of the above end up in Ontario.

I think 6 is the number. However, if it 6.5, it wouldn't bother me. He's the real deal and earned it.

Not that I'm the final arbiter of such things, but I felt he was a 5/$30M guy going into this UFA market. Anything under $6M and 5 yrs is a hometown discount (which as I've said never happens for the Kings).

I just look at Greene struggled at times due to missing an entire season of hockey due to injury. He got better as the playoffs went on. Will really suck to lose Mitchell, but if the rumors of him wanting 4 years and a raise are true, you have to go with the 31 year old for 4 years at less money, instead of the 37 year old for 4 years at more money.

Am I the only one not concerned with losing Mitchell? I think it's a priority we lock that guy back up for at least a year. Sounds like he wants a raise. 4 mill is going to be a tough pill to swallow, especially considering he is 37.

I'm with you as I'm not concerned about losing Mitchell either, but then again, I like Greene more than most here.

I think the emergence of Muzzin and Martinez on the left side will mitigate this departure.

2 years ago, Muzzin sucked eggs in the playoffs, Mitchell was on the shelf, Regehr had 1 functioning elbow, Scuderi was slow as ever, and Martinez hadn't emerged yet. And we still played the Hawks tough despite losing.

I'd say we're in decent shape even with his departure.
