Pretty confused why he needs a 4-year deal given they tried to use Jeff Schultz over him. Unless it's a John Zeiler-type deal.
You guys remember that guy? John Zeiler?
Its probably going to be 3 mil x 4 years based on what DL has given Regehr and Mitchell in the passed.
Ancient history. All you have to do is look at how he treated Gagne. That's the new and improved Deano!
Not necessarily. He could have signed a long-term deal for next to nothing. We don't know the money involved yet. Could be no impact on the salary cap.
You guys are all too high imo. It's going to be in the low 2s. But we'll soon find out.

Only way Mitchell is 100% out is if RR doesn't retire. I don't know the validity of the rumor, but if true, then I can still see the possibility of Mitchell in lieu of RR. However, if not, then Mitchell is all but gone imo.
I'm thinking it has to be a 1 year deal. Let Greene get one more shot at the Cup without compromising the re-signings that have to occur next offseason.
Wondering if this means that Lombardi is going to go ahead re-sign Mitchell and Greene in order to pressure Gaborik into taking the hometown discount to stay in LA. I could see Dean doing so in order to show Gaborik that he means business about wanting players to want to be here, then if Gaborik still wants to come back I could see Lombardi increasing to 5.5-6M/year rather than the initial 5M/year that was rumored.
Either that or Greene is already being re-signed because Gaborik is as well. Or worse, Mitchell is leaving. I definitely think that Mitchell is a prime candidate for a team like Columbus, Minnesota, or the Avalanche as a two-time Stanley Cup winner who can excel at mentoring younger guys while still playing solid minutes.
The problem with Mitchell is term, not dollars. Regehr doesn't have to retire...he could be bought out which makes room for Mitchell to return THIS YEAR, but Mitchell will likely require 2 or 3 years (38-40 y/o) and the Kings FA situation next off-season is much more tedious. Dean may choose to deal with the UFAs for next off-season (Justin Williams, Jarret Stoll, Alec Martinez) this off-season which might help control the roster, but not the cap as much because he still has 6 RFAs next offseason (Kyle Clifford, Tanner Pearson, Tyler Toffoli, Jordan Nolan, Jake Muzzin, Martin Jones).
Everyone thought it was between Mitchell and Greene, but it turns out (probably because Greene is a Right Shot D) that it was between Mitchell & Regehr and Regehr's contract gives Dean the most future cap flexibility.
Mitchell's the better player who makes the most impact on the team, but in the cap world and for a team with the core intact for awhile (with Greene's long term deal) the loss of Mitchell is a highly calculated risk.
I personally think Mitchell would be worth a Regehr buyout and maybe a player trade or two to keep him, but it's more work/complication that way. We'll see...
Regehr can be bought out, it just won't be a compliance buyout.
If Regehr was going to retire, I'm guessing that would've happened by now. If the Kings had any thought of buying Regehr out, I'm guessing there would be some indication of that. As of right now, I'd say everyone just needs to figure on Regehr being in a Kings jersey in a few months.
Agreed. Short of an unforeseen trade opening cap space, I think Mitchell might have played his last game for the Kings. It's a shame, but keeping Greene is the right move IMO.
Regher just turned 34 and will make $3 million next year. Why would he retire?
Regher won't retire and he won't be bought out. He played strong hockey after the Olympic break and if played properly (which he will be next year), he can still be a key asset to our defense.

And Greene isn't going to sign a four year deal to only be traded after two years. Why would you guys say that? I don't care about Jack Johnson or Lubomir Visnovsky, those were very specific scenarios.

A few days of detail work left on Matt Greene's new contract with the LA Kings. Expected: 4 years, $10 mil...annual average of $2.5 mil.
you nailed it bro! Or should I say Mr. Lombardi?4 years/10 million. Book it.
