I'm a bit torn with this. I love what he's done as a King and I can understand why Lombardi resigned him, but to see him get burned by faster guys for the next 4 seasons will be really hard to watch.

Pretty confused why he needs a 4-year deal given they tried to use Jeff Schultz over him. Unless it's a John Zeiler-type deal.

You guys remember that guy? John Zeiler?
Greene was hurt when they used Jeff Schultz "over" him.

John Zeiler has zero to do with this. Don't be a drama llama.

Its probably going to be 3 mil x 4 years based on what DL has given Regehr and Mitchell in the passed.

This is Lombardi's biggest problem. He holds onto players way too long, guys that he gets too emotionally attached too. Did it after we won it in 2012, re-signed the same guys and iced the exact same team. This year he realized he needed to make a move, like the one for Gaborik, to take that extra step.

Love what you've done for us Greene, you're a great leader and the team loves you but it's time to move on.

A injured team made it to the conference finals the year after winning. It's not a Cup but it's also not a failure either. There hasn't been a repeat champion in the salary cap era. And there have only been 2 teams that have made it back to the finals in consecutive years in the cap era also.

RIP Lee Hyori. :(

WTF? Well bye bye Willie Mitchell. That sucks. Congrats to Greene, but I don't understand the signing or the term.

Not necessarily. He could have signed a long-term deal for next to nothing. We don't know the money involved yet. Could be no impact on the salary cap.

I love how we're a week and a half removed from the Kings' 2nd cup in three years, and people are still so quick to bemoan Lombardi keeping a player who's been the forefront of the identity change, before the details are even announced.

He's played 43 out of a possible 130 regular season games the past two years, his play has declined, and he's not getting any faster. I don't see anything wrong with feeling a little concerned with Greene getting four years. Hopefully the AAV is low

1. Injuries - Williams and Mitchell missed a lot of games at points in their career, too.

2. Declined play - Playing 43 out of 130 games will have you out of sync.

3. Not getting any faster - he was never fast. Do you think a 37-39 year-old Mitchell (if he signed a two year deal) would be faster?

Again, we don't know the term yet, and we knew it was a very likely possibility someone would have to be on the way out to increase the likelihood of retaining Gaborik for more than a year.

I just think people are overreacting, and while they're looking at the big picture, they're focusing on a metaphorical corner.

Greene is 31 but plays like he's 38. Wonder how banged up he was this season.

Good asset protection. Dean will probably get 1-2 more seasons out of Greene before a trade.

Deano's not signing Greene to trade him a year or two later. I'm sure Greene was given a verbal no-trade clause with the contingency of a trade with Greene's approval.
