The more I think about it the more I'm leaning towards moving Regehr. He's only been with the team for a little over a year. Its almost certain he won't be resigned after this season as well. We can then use that money to resign Mitchell for a year or two. I think losing Mitchell would be a bigger hit to the locker room than Regehr.

Muzzin-Doughty
Mitchell-Voynov
Martinez-Greene
McNabb

Get McNabb in there for some games to give Mitchell "maintenance days". McNabb eventually takes Mitchells spot the following season or two.

We got Regehr his cup, time to move on.

This will never happen. Mitchell was great here but at his age it is time and the decision has been made. Take out Mitchell and add Regehr and that's our d for 2014-2015.

I love Mitchell, but he is gone, they made the decision to go with Greene.

Your lineup could be realistic if Mitchell signed for one year, there is no indication whatsoever he will be doing that.

I'm okay with this. Welcome back to the club for 4 more years, Greene. Now do something next year that makes the fans who aren't okay with this contract regret what they're saying.

That's how we do in LA ;)

Really he re-signed Stoll at a less cap hit then he was getting after the 2012 for a three year deal. Also signed the best goalie in the world for 5.8 surely a discount compared to what he is worth. Gabby is next.

I LOVE Jarret Stoll, don't get me wrong AT ALL...His game is suited perfectly for his role...but the last 2 seasons the Kings have paid him $343,495 per goal. I'm gunna go ahead and call that NOT a discount. Again, I'm a huge fan of Stolly's, but he's not playing for less than he could get elsewhere.

The Quick contract is worth $58 million dollars. The only goalies whose contracts are worth more than Quick's is Bobby Lu ($64M) and Hank's ($59.5M). Quick's contract is cap friendly because it wasn't signed after the lockout and you could still do 10 year deals so long as you didn't circumvent the cap. If Quick would have signed the deal after the lockout, it would have been >$7M AAV and you wouldn't think it was a discount by any stretch.

There is no way anyone can call Stoll's contract after 2012 a discount. The guy was coming off by far the worst season of his NHL career, the ink on that contract was probably not dry before Stoll signed it. No way was that a discount.

I agree with the devi...I mean, herby. Stoll's contract was too high. Having said that, Stoll eventually did live up to his contract, so, it turned out to be an ok cotract.

Agree he is good in the playoffs and is great to keep a hard hitting dman. Kinda funny how other teams fans always made fun of us King fans when we say the team is built for the playoff but it is so true. We will never win the division as the style is to hard to play real good over 82 games but give them a seven game series and it's on. :yo:

And that ultimately is my point... people complain and criticize a lot during the regular season, but they're built for the playoffs, play a style that's hard for the opposition to deal with with our roster in a 20-26 game tournament and the players should be judged ultimately on their playoff performance and not their regular season performance. That's what DL's has been trying to condition the fans to understand for 8 years now. Judge them on their playoff performances.

Man that's twice today you've either agreed with me or said something nice about me... you feeling OK?:naughty:

I guess I'll take Greene at that price. I just hate that Lombardi has a hard time moving on from guys that need to go. I guess DL doesn't think McNabb is ready for the jump, I would much rather have had Willie signed up than Greene.

How many people here think Greene finishes those 4 years in LA? lol

I'll be the first to admit I've criticized Greene heavily at points this season and at many times unrightfully so. However, you can tell he loves it here and I personally believe he took a discount to stay in LA. He would have gotten much more than 2.5 per on an open market. Although his play annoyed me at times this season, he never has. The guy is an absolute warrior that gives everything he has, every shift. I respect the hell out of him as a player and more importantly, as a person. He'll do anything it takes to win and I consider him one of the top catalysts in the room. His health doesn't concern me very much, because Dean has gambled before and it's payed off (Mitchell, Williams, Gaborik, etc). I remember back when he was healthy scratched in the middle of the season and was asked about it. He bluntly said something to the effect of - "I'm not doing my job. I'm not getting it done. And for that I deserve to be watching games in a suit." That's the Matt Greene we all love.

Happy to have him for four more and hopefully he stays at 100% health.

Looking back, of course Stoll's deal looks like overpayment. The point is, same with Greene's deal now, is had those guys gone to market they both would've been paid higher AAV contracts elsewhere. And maybe you would've been cool with that. But in the end we needed those guys for Cup two. This is the price of doing business as a contender. Mitchell appears to be pricing himself off the team and Regehr expires next year. Green is stay at home insurance to bridge on the next prospect graduate.

Well you were pretty ridiculed by almost everyone when you suggested that Greene was going to play well in the playoffs and possibly be re-signed, and it turns out you were correct on both accounts.

Now return the favor and admit I was right and you were wrong in saying the only way the Kings would win the SC was Carter at 2C. I was roasted over the coals when I made that suggestion in 2013. :)

I don't mean to burst your bubble there herby, but the difference in us winning and not winning had more to do with our kids getting to play. I've said in the midseason, we can defeat the hawx if Sutter would let the kids play, and he did and we did. Yes, Carter was important as center, very important, but it was the play of Pearson and TT that was the difference maker. Without the kids, we don't make it past the sharx.

Well, I didn't say that...I just said Richards needs Carter to play at his best...But I thought Carter was a beast as a 2C, so props to you. I never ridiculed you for anything...Not that I can remember...I'm sure you'll pull up a quote from 3 years ago where I did now that I've said that. Good call on Carter though.

Folks, keep something in mind...from 2008-2012 (the last full season of relative health for Greene) only one Defenseman in hockey had more hits than Matt Greene's 924 (Brooks Orpik - 1017), and we all know when he lines a guy up, he doesn't do it to tickle them...He' hits like a Mack Truck. He's vicious and prolific and clears the net as well as any of our D-Men. Has he lost some foot speed? Of course, but we weren't talking about Carl Hagelin in the first place, he was never fleet of skate. If he plays a strong positional game, uses his head and maybe takes a few fewer needless penalties, and if Sutter can manage his minutes, He'll be an effective 3rd pairing SAHD with all the intangibles and if he's healthy in April, he's a terrific playoff performer.

It's time for you all to fall in love with Greener all over again! After all, he's taking the discount and if he can do what he's capable of doing, we'll all think it was a steal come June 2015!

So we signed a guy that won 2 Stanley Cups with us while wearing an "A", leaving blood on the ice, keeping Quick's crease clear, and helping stabilize a locker room for $400,000 per year less then he did it for before in a time where he may have got that much as a raise.

In Dean I gotta Trust. Every team needs a lead sled that can destroy the slot.

I've got to agree. Not that our stars and vets didn't play well -- they were instrumental of course. But our second line was an absolute terror and did lots of scoring in our toughest series, and that line was made of 2/3rds rookies. I can't even begin to say how excited I am for our youngsters to be playing like stars in the making.
