I think the emergence of Muzzin and Martinez on the left side will mitigate this departure.

2 years ago, Muzzin sucked eggs in the playoffs, Mitchell was on the shelf, Regehr had 1 functioning elbow, Scuderi was slow as ever, and Martinez hadn't emerged yet. And we still played the Hawks tough despite losing.

I'd say we're in decent shape even with his departure.

The only area where im concerned about losing Mitchell is on the PK. Need someone else to step up for those brutal minutes...

That'll be Greener...who has been a stalwart on the PK but didn't get nearly the PK minutes he used to get even during the playoffs when he was playing well.

Regehr and Greene play different sides.

If anything might cost the Kings Mitchell, it's the play of Muzzin and Martinez. Regehr was fine as the year went on. The Kings even beat the Ducks without both Mitchell and Regehr.

Martinez can switch sides and play with either of them on the third pairing.

IMO the Kings shouldn't have let the series against the Ducks drag on 7 games. It was great to get Mitchell back against Chicago.

Regehr does not hold a candle to a healthy Mitchell by any measure. Mitchell's contributions shouldn't be forgotten.

The more I think about it the more I'm leaning towards moving Regehr. He's only been with the team for a little over a year. Its almost certain he won't be resigned after this season as well. We can then use that money to resign Mitchell for a year or two. I think losing Mitchell would be a bigger hit to the locker room than Regehr.

Muzzin-Doughty
Mitchell-Voynov
Martinez-Greene
McNabb

Get McNabb in there for some games to give Mitchell "maintenance days". McNabb eventually takes Mitchells spot the following season or two.

We got Regehr his cup, time to move on.

Can, but Lombardi likes 3 left/3 right on defense if possible.

Shouldn't have let? There was another team full of highly paid professional athletes that wanted to win a Cup on the ice with the Kings in that series.

Regehr does not hold a candle to a healthy Mitchell by any measure.

That may be true, but Regehr is signed, Mitchell isn't. Easy for people to say trade Regehr, but a team trading for Regehr could just as easily wait and see if they can sign Mitchell for just money. The Kings should then hurry up and sign Mitchell. Then the Kings might have cap issues, and a team will probably get more out of the Kings for taking Regehr knowing the Kings are up against things.

Mitchell's contributions shouldn't be forgotten.

I don't believe any Kings fan could do that.

I just look at Greene struggled at times due to missing an entire season of hockey due to injury. He got better as the playoffs went on. Will really suck to lose Mitchell, but if the rumors of him wanting 4 years and a raise are true, you have to go with the 31 year old for 4 years at less money, instead of the 37 year old for 4 years at more money.

Yep a 4 year contract with him is poison. 35+ have no way out short of LTIR really. I want Mitchell back but it needed to be a 1 year deal with bonuses. But I am sure someone will give it to him.

Is anyone else hearing 3yrs for Greener?

I have heard a rumor earlier that the deal may well be for 3 yrs and not 4. Curious to see if there is anyone else out there talking about it.

Hammond, Dillman & Dreger all say it's 4 years. I tend to believe them. Especially Lisa, who is always a careful smart reporter.

They were all reporting the 4 year rumor though, right? I have heard that like you and the rest of us for sure but I have heard earlier today that things might have changed and that a 3 year deal may have been placed on the table as well.

I know what has been said about the 4 year deal and believe that is what was on offer too. Just curious if anyone else has reported on the possibility of a 3 year deal being offered as well.

I can't find Stoll's tweet but a lot of people are referencing it

Stoll just congratulated Matt Greene on air for his new four-year deal. So I guess that indeed confirms his new contract. #Kings

Maybe 3 year at 9 million
or 4 years at 10 million

Could be Greener chose the longer term.

Stoll did post a REALLY hot picture of Christy Teigen on his twittter though....damn

I might need to start doing this twitter thing

If true, I'm gunna go ahead and call this the first long term hometown discount DL has gotten in the Cup Contending Era. Greene on the open market is worth more IMO, especially after a good playoffs.

Really he re-signed Stoll at a less cap hit then he was getting after the 2012 for a three year deal. Also signed the best goalie in the world for 5.8 surely a discount compared to what he is worth. Gabby is next.

Who cares... The Kings are built for the playoffs. His regular season wins and losses are the least of my concerns.

Agree he is good in the playoffs and is great to keep a hard hitting dman. Kinda funny how other teams fans always made fun of us King fans when we say the team is built for the playoff but it is so true. We will never win the division as the style is to hard to play real good over 82 games but give them a seven game series and it's on. :yo:
