As a Finn I'm devastatingly ashamed of Björninen's dive which led to our powerplay. That should have never been a penalty! Also, why didn't Canada get PP after our challenge in 3-2 goal by Canada? One other note: 3v3 should never be the solution in overtime, it's ridiculous.

Wait. We have never had a final where refs have somewhat favored us, this is our first time ever. Usually it has been the opposite. Maybe it's our rank 1 that affects now or home tournament? I remember 2014 final against Russia when the refballing was even worse than in this last final game. Nevertheless, I still am ashamed of what happened in the game, not really sure if we deserved to win, propably not. If I was Canadian I would propably shittalk here about the refs.

Here is a video of what happened in 2014. Btw, Rene Fasel (who was IIHF head in 2014) is a friend of Putin and he was shown sitting next to Putin in the crowd during the final in 2014.

That challenge was not done by Jalonen, it was reviewed by the referees themselves. Hence no penalty. Chabot got an identical penalty as Filppula did earlier: if you don't want a penalty, don't put your stick between another players legs.

And how about the vicious crosscheck to Heiskanen that led to him jolting the net with his face. I guess that was ok as it wasn't favoring Finland...

Do you think Canadians care when they win these tournaments? Only when a bunch of people come in and go "CANADIAN FANS SO RUDE" for 30 pages on the worst hockey site on the internet and it becomes hilarious to watch you lose to Canada's Z team
Prime example of what karhukissa was talking about...keep it up champ :D

He has learned his lesson.
On days like these he stays away from….stairs.
Ossi Väänänen revealed in a podcast that the very last step of the stairs was the one that got him. He took half of the responsibility of the second most famous ilmaveivi(lacrosse move) in our history as he was helping him in the plane.

for those who dont know, a part of our hockey history.

That is correct: it should have been slashing. Thus a penalty was the correct thing to do but under the wrong category.
Should have been slashing on regular season. On playoffs those are rarely called. On finals, on the 3rd period almost never.

These if's do not help anybody, do not change any result and do not take anything away from anybody, specially Team Finland. Beautiful stories. Filppula triple Gold club. Jalonen doing it again. Olkinuora from bench guy in 2019 and Olympics to winning starter. Manninen - midget in the land of giants winning it all. Granlund 2+1 in Final. Dallas duo winning. Hartikainen version of Lammikko (he was World Champion and World Junior Champion with 0+0). Ohtamaa, Olkinuora, Anttila always in since 2019. Björninen - pensselisetä penalty, face offs, moustache... Armia huge goals. And more and more. Helsinki trying to close the fountain, but ... party taking over. Crazy night in all over Finland.

Emotional night. Cinderella stories. New arena seeing it all (startig from Finnish league Finals)... and next year chance to do it again. Wow!!!

I've been reading the comments now for one hour and it has been hilarious. I don't mind Canadians blaiming the refs, it just shows the importance of winning and the devastation of losing. No matter if it's the Olympics, WHCs or WJCs, losing is a non-option for Canada. They usually win it all, last year for example but now it was our turn.

Canada were the only team that could come back in a minute while being down 3-1. On the other hand Finland showed their strength to forget it and win it on overtime.

Two best teams in the final for sure. See you next year, in a new tournament.

Unfortunately the WHCs are the best tournament we have had for the last 6 years, 8 years arguably. This is still a very difficult tournament to win and it feels so rewarding. It is always difficult to win three games in a row to win the gold.

Dont care how you won, not against Canada.(still angry on them for tryin to smash Sundins teeth out after a 8h surgery) Congrats Finland!
I really hope there will be more NHL-players taking part next year, especially from Finland, Sweden, Canada and USA. Then it could be considered at least a bit like best-on-best or best b-teams on best b-teams.

This was Canada's Z-team against Finland's ummm.. C or D-team.

Congrats Team Finland and Val Filppula!

Finland record since 2019 is quite astonishing. Bratislava 2019 (Gold), Riga 2021 (Runner-up), Beijing 2022 (Gold) and Helsinki 2022 (Gold). That's no fluke. I think it's fair to say that Finland is the modern powerhouse of international hockey.

The taller they are, the harder they fall. With average height of 189,29 cm (according to eliteprospects.com) this was by far the tallest team in this year tournament. With only Sillinger and Mercer being less than 185 cm tall (both 183 cm). And to be more clear, it was not just the tallest team of this tournament, but tallest team in this century (I checked the rosters till 1999/2000 season). By far, by the way. Closest was 2016/2017 USA 188,08 cm. Most probably this was the tallest team in international hockey - ever!!!

In that field it is kind of funny that the guy who sank them in Final was Sakari Manninen. Smallest guy in the Final game (170 cm). Mörkö Anttila called in different interviews after the game Pikky Myy (Little Myy) and 152 cm guy...:laugh::laugh:

Jukka Jalonen, Kari Jalonen with medals... Nice. Now a hint for Sweden and other teams looking for that one medal in 2023: it is time to find Your coach Jalonen from Finland. There is nobody at Liiga level, but from Mestis, Suomi sarja and kids leagues there are some Jalonen's available... :naughty: Hannu Jalonen with Oulu Kärpät U18, Jesper Jalonen with Kokkola Hermes.
