As some one who witnessed all the imaginable losses from late 90s (even watched the 95 final when i was very young), this culture of winning is dream come true! Honestly at some point in 2000's, wouldn't have easily believed it. After having beared so many losses, winning is not going to get old for me. Best on Best gold is still something that I carve, before Finland's destiny in hockey is fullfilled.

This is a classic example of coping mechanisms kicking in. You’re not losing any sleep but continue to write a wall of text about how Finland’s A team beat Canadian C team in a meaningless tournament. A serious question: what is an A team? A team that would represent a country in a best on best tournament? Or simply a team with best players available?

Reffs weren’t at the level of the game tonight. No question about that. But you’re being dishonest if you can’t recognize that Canadians also benefited from no calls, especially in the third. Heck, Graves alone could’ve been called several times for holding and hooking. Heiskanen got crosschecked and sent face first into his own goal moments before Canada scored. It was tightly contested game between the two best teams of the tournament. I have no problem with either team winning a game like this.
Because of the ridiculous 5 on 3 call against Canada, we lost our starting goalie, and had a Third Stringer in Net. That is also what I meant when I said Canada's C Team vs. Finland's A team.

I hope the officials are celebrating also in Helsinki. They are probably very happy with the outcome of an European team winning on home ice. Like I said, today's game is the first game I have watched all tournament. Win or lose- I just want a well officiated game, and the call against Canada, was the worst call I have ever seen in a Gold Medal Game.

If the roles were reversed, hockey fans all over the world would be saying it was rigged for Canada. How the officials were bought off by Canada. However, when Canada loses in the manner they did, Canadians are called sore losers. If this game was not played in Finland, Finland would not have had an OT PP, and the 5 on 3 call would not have been made. IIHF officials wanted a Story Book ending for Finland, since they are probably tired of Canada winning this tournament with our C Team. They wanted the Home Team to celebrate their victory.

You haven't watched much IIHF hockey, then. Cause I can guarantee you, it barely scratches the top-5. And that's just from the past decade or so...

Here's the play:

"Crosscheck" is visible at 0:27-0:30. Is it a penalty? Ideally, yes, probably. By the standards of the game? No it likely isn't. Is it "vicious"? f*** no. That's just as absurd as suggesting it "caused" the goal.

Yes it is: a vicious crosscheck. As blatant as they come.

Anyways, time to hit the hay now and enjoy the win! Sweet dreams son.

"Vicious" means with force and malace. There's very little force and pretty much no malace in that crosscheck. Calling it "vicious" is absurd.

Win or Lose- I do not lose any sleep over Canada not winning the WHC. It is a tournament European fans care about, while in North America we are too busy watching the Stanley Cup Finals. We always send our C Team, while Europeans send their A or B teams, since they care more about the tournament. Today's Gold Medal Game was the first Game I have watched Team Canada play.

That being said if the roles were reversed, and Canada had won the Gold Medal on home ice today, with a terrible high sticking call, that cost us two goals along with a OT Dive by a Finnish Player leading to the Gold Medal Winner on a PP- I would be the first to say Canada should not be pumping their chest out and saying "We are the Best". All the other countries and their fans would be screaming that Canada probably paid off the officials, if the roles were reversed.

Yet Finland fans on Social Media have no problem pumping their chest, and calling Canadian fans sore losers, since they beat Canada's C Team with their A team, with the most corrupt officiating I have ever seen in a Gold Medal Final. Also, unfortunately our Starting Goalie also got hurt, and Finland had to face our Backup Goalie.

Maybe the European officials had money on Finland winning on home ice, or maybe they are tired of Canada winning this European tournament again with our C Team. Even the OT Penalty against Canada, was more of a Soccer Dive by the Finnish player. I have never complained about the Refs, but the missed calls against Finland and the penalties that Finland were rewarded, makes me think that this Game was already decided yesterday.

The IIHF officials probably wanted the European home team to win in their home country, and the celebrations that will take place afterwards. The officials wanted the story book ending for Finland. I feel sick for Sillinger, since there was no high stick by him against the Finnish player. Even the OT call to me was a Dive by the Finnish player. Today's game is the reason why Canada should never host this Minor League Tournament, with its minor league officiating.
my favourite part about beating canada in the skoda cup are the annual "i-dont-care-about-this-tournament-haha-while-absolutely-obviously-salty-wallsoftext".

"too busy watching the stanley cup finals". Just classic, no logic super salty. "I'm interested in the more imporant thing than you haha".

Like you can't watch both?. Haha

Do arms of the players from the canadian nhl teams hurt from all that stanley cup lifting lately?

It's guy like you who make winning this so much better.

If you can't admit the 3rd period was poorly ref'd and the vast majority of the calls went Finland's way, then there is no point discussing.
"Vast majority of the calls"???

One call went to Finland's way. That double-slash by Sillinger should never have been a high stick. Probably slashing minor on some regular season game, but not on playoffs.

Other calls, including crucial no-call on cross checking on 3-2 goal did not go Finlands way.

For example if you put your stick between the legs of opposite team player, that's almost 100% a penalty, just like Filppula and Chabot learned today.

Malace is not a word. Crosschecking someone face first into a goal post seems both pretty vicious and malicious.

Anyway, happy that the better team won!

So shouldn't Canada and its C team safely beat that little Finland with a few NHL players? So when he's holding the number one team with a huge lead?

If we are talking about OT, the punishment for Nylander was also quite controversial. Who knows, maybe Sweden would win the match and they played for the medals. And Canada and its fans would have no reason to watch this insignificant tournament and could watch SC all the time.

I mean... It's not impossible?. Smith needs to chill the f*** out in the net and #97 needs to keep up the gretz/lemiux-like performance? For me it's the most unlikely scenario left but who knows man.

watched every single game of those seven against the bolts, you were so effin close.

Man, the dark ages with Marjamäki feels so long ago
I think all the missed opportunities with Hannu "Silver" Aravirta were much harder to watch late 1990's. That guy aimed for the mediocry and achieved just that. No ambition and always his "sauna buddies" on the team no matter what. "We don't need PP specialists" etc. Not a surprise those teams generally sucked at PP.

Marjamäki was the coach for relatively short period and I think he also got one silver medal.

You sound like you took that super whiney TSN broadcast too much into heart. The IIHF refs usually try to call it by the book more, which means they also have a higher rate of calling non-existant penalties. Been many times on the receiving end of those calls, too bad but **** happens. At least one of those refs should be nowhere near a final, has a history of bad calls. Anyway game went to OT, they had it in their hands to win, failed to do so.

Also going all butterfly effect with the goalie injury and what not is just completely pointless.

Bottom line no one knows what would have happened otherwise. Could've gone either way, game was really 50-50 all the way, not every other possible scenario than what happened leads to Canada winning.

Showed some big heart to come back again with the goalie pulled, a really good team and they started with good discipline, but some really boneheaded penalties. Some went uncalled as well. And that call on OT was just a stupid penalty to take.

Stop whining and celebrate the finnish gold sir

Malice. My bad.

And it's only vicious and malicious if intentionally done. I think that's absurd to suggest.

Go to sleep already.
