Should be Woll every 3rd game or so so I'd expect he'll get his first action next game. He'll probably get 2 of the 5 games on the road trip as well so they'll likely split the next 6 games.

They're not handing him the starting job on game three like some will be clamoring for if he has a good game on Monday though lol.

Woll has to start vs Chicago.

At the end of the season (if not sooner), the Leafs will have to make the decision to either extend Samsonov (to likely a multi-year contract) or look elsewhere. We have to know what we have in Woll by then.

Dubas totally mangled goaltending and D and made sure to continuously trade picks for lawn chair moves so we can't fix it quickly.

No more Samsonov... he's basically an emotionally fragile, athletically talented but zero control kind of goalie like Jack Campbell with big structural flaws and inability to track the play without getting into a panic. He's obviously going to play better over a long stretch and even be brilliant, but those fundamentals aren't going to go away and it's not worth building with him.

Woll is a Lou pick so he's our best hope lol.

Still early in the year. Going to need both guys. Maybe a few games off can help Sammy.

In fairness we have a couple interesting Goalie prospects that Dubas did draft.

The fact that a guy Lou drafted in 2016 just won a roster spot to start the season in 2023 should just show how long it takes goalies to develop. We won’t know for years if any of the guys Dubas picked will work out

Samsonov was pretty good last year, I don't know What's wrong with him this year but he needs to get his head out of his ass.

He's been garbage every game, even in the last game where he only allowed 2, he should have had both.

3 goals on 4 shots tonight, he's allowed 14 goals in about 9.5 periods because he didn't last the entire 1st period.

And for those that say Woll is the answer, maybe but he's got 13 games and this is his 3rd season.

If Samsonov doesn't pull his head out of his ass they have to bring in somebody else, they see themselves as cup contenders they aren't going to start Woll in game 1 of a playoff series it's not going to happen.

At least not by choice.

I don't think enough people appreciate this point. It's obviously possible that Woll could become Binnington 2.0, but the team won't voluntarily put itself in that position. The kid has 13 NHL games on his resume, and no one, including the team, has any idea how he would do if he played 50 games this season. Samsonov will remain the number one goalie, and he will end up being fine. If that turns out not to be the case, however, a Cup contending team is not going to voluntarily rely on a Woll/Jones tandem. A trade would almost certainly be made.

Just build up Woll's resume one game at a time. That's how you know what you have for the playoffs.

Samsonov appears to be a bit of an underachiever personality. Has all the talent but there's a reason it seems why Washington was so happy to walk from him. Definitely pulled up his socks his first year in Toronto, but this year seems to be back to his unfocused self.

I think Samsonov will bounce back nicely against Dallas this week, and I think the team will continue to tighten up its overall defense. People are reading too much into what are usually pretty disorganized early season games, especially for teams with a lot of new players like the Leafs. Just like Domi and Knies turned things around, so will Samsonov.

Woll deserves the net for the foreseeable future.
This, and it’s not a hot take either, he’s been massively outplaying Sammy for some time, whenever he does play:

This season:
Sammy - .831 sv%, 4.34 GAA (4 GP)
Woll - .949 sv%, 1.69 GAA (2 GP)

Last playoffs:
Sammy - .898 sv%, 3.13 GAA (9 GP)
Woll - .915 sv%, 2.43 GAA (4 GP)

Last April:
Sammy - .959 sv%, 1.25 GAA (5 GP)
Woll - .929 sv%, 2.33 GAA (3 GP)

Last March:
Sammy - .892 sv%, 3.29 GAA (6 GP)
Woll - .941 sv%, 1.50 GAA (2 GP)

This is a significant sample size, March of last year to present, where Woll has been much better, far more consistent. Sammy was amazing last April, but overall, March last year to present, Woll has been miles ahead. Will looks a lot better to my eyes too, so much more calm in net, positioning and control on another level.

Just play the better goalie, and that’s been Woll for quite a good stretch now IMO.
