Yes, I think his jersey should be retired. Yes, I think it will happen. But it's far from a sure thing.

Personally I think jersey retirements should be about connection to the fans over a long enough period of time and not directly related to awards/cups or whatever. Though obviously awards/cup and the like goes a long way to building that fan connection so there will of course be a correlation.

No need to wait 30 years but there's also no rush so even though I do think Price deserves it, I would still probably wait another 10 years or so.

He has a better resume than about half of those who are retired. I think he’ll get his jersey in the rafters. It will take time but I think it’ll happen. He’s one of the best players to ever don the jersey. He was briefly the best player in the league.

The only thing I could see delaying or maybe stopping a jersey retirement for Price is if we win a cup or two in the next 5-10 years. If we win a cup in that time frame, I can see a player or two on that cup winning team getting priority over him. If our drought remains, I think he’ll eventually get up there. It’s ridiculous that he’s not a lock but this is Montreal so the standard are super high.

Yeah, Price is in a completely different class than those players too. He could/should be first ballot. At minimum a sure fire HOFer.

Truly elite player that won multiple playoff series on his own. He’s won every individual award there is and took a crap team to the finals. He did everything but win a cup and that’s certainly not his fault.

Substance abuse is not something that should be punished. Certainly not in this day and age.

They had a good GM running the team… I just don’t get how people can be okay with inferior careers to Price being honoured but not him.

There's no shortage of numbers. They only need 25 numbers at once, so they could retire 70 numbers if they wanted to.

Well, I like Price as a goalie very much . After he was gone, i looked at the next goalies ( even today ) and realised how good Price was and how bad management has been to not build correctly around him.

But the retired list it's a very select club. As Goalies, there are Plante, Dryden and Roy. In the hall of fame , you ll also find Vezina and Maybe Durnan that could be in the rafters.

I ve seen Robinson on tv yesterday, looked at his numbers and what player he has been ... I would not retire 31, i do not think he belongs.

He ll get to the hall of fame and he'll enter the ring of honor of the bell center , but that's it. Of course Koivu, Markov and Subban do not get up there either.

Let's hope someone will make it, let's hope Demidov will be that good or Fowler.

There’s another way to look at that though, a six team league meant you were going to face in of the six best goalies/blueliners/forwards in the world every night. Great players couldnt even make the league.

Btw you can read articles that The Rocket dominated because most guys in that era were sent to war and he was playing with much weaker players because of it. Not saying its true but the Rocket is a legend because of what he did and NOT what he could have done.

Koivu, Markov, Subban, Price, are unquestionably better in their primes then some names up there.

But two wrongs don't make a right.

If they had been healthier and won Cups they'd be up there, but they weren't and didn't.

If the Hughes Habs win a Cup, Suzuki should get his jersey retired.
