I'm not sure either NJ goal last nigh was stoppable?

Bratt goal definitely was

There was nothing threatening looking about that as Bratt shot it

I was really surprised it went in

Looked like for sure it was gonna hit the goalie

Softy of the night is this Tyler Toffoli goal on Karel Vejmelka

First softy of the night I’ve given Vejmelka in a while. First goal stoppable I’ve given him in a while too.

Softy of the night is this Troy Terry goal on Charlie Lindgren

Routine shot off the glove turns into a big scramble and fire drill. This was actually a really fun and unique one I thought.

Which two did you have stoppable against Vladar last night. The Whitecloud goal was bad but I felt the Eichel PP goal could have been saved and the OT goal should have never even got to the post.

It was the Whitecloud goal and the OT winner.

The Eichel goal was borderline, but I thought there was an acceptable enough screen in front of him.

I thought he played the Whitecloud goal poorly, and on the replay in slow motion it still looks like he could have gotten a blocker on that and punched it away if he took a swing at it. That's not to say it wouldn't have been put in on the rebound though.

Yeah, the OT goal was not great. I know the guy didn't have it on his stick for very long before he unloaded the shot, but it really beat his glove as clean as anything I saw last night (Vanecek was beaten really clean on one of those in our game too and from even further out, but it just hit the post, no goal on the rebound) and dropped behind him.

I've been really giving it to both Vladar and Markstrom this year. Both have just been really bad this year. Markstrom probably worse, but Vladar hasn't really had quite the leash to be much better or worse than Markstrom.

I finally got around to analyzing the change between seasons for the Flames goalies based on your thread yesterday and yeah it’s pretty pitiful this year. Last year flames goalies were at 29.1% stoppable goals, which is upper end of league average I think. This year they’re over 34%. Just brutal. They’ve already given up more stoppable goals this season than all of last season. There’s still 23 games to go!

Last night would also be the 7th game this season where a “perfect goalie” (no stoppable goals against) would have turned an actual loss into a win. That only happened 5 times last year for the team. Not sure how the goalie coaches continually get a pass for every goalie getting worse over time here. It’s been a decade plus of this.

I have all of this year's data (As well as last year's, not sure if I sent you those? Or if I just sent the first two years I tracked this? I forget!), but it looks like you've been keeping track yourself this year! At least on the Flames goalies!

I'm pretty sure Markstrom is one of my highest percentages, Vladar may be also. I have my phone charging (that's where this year's data is, in my notepad) but like I said, I don't keep track of their actual goals against in my notes, as the league and every other stats site does that for me. So I always wind up having to look up their actual goals against total and divide my number by their number of goals against.

It's been pretty ugly for both Markstrom and Vladar this year.

I remember writing a long rant on Markstrom last weekend, after a weak game tying goal in the Rangers game. It was one timed, so not as bad as it looked at first, but still not a good one. And then Flyers game the other night I saw a couple of weak ones against him.

Evolving hockey actually doesn't have either of them as being that bad this year and suggests the team is playing very poorly in front of them. They have Markstrom at only a -3.22 GSAx, despite a -16.04 GSAA (16 goals below the league average save percentage on the number of shots he's faced) and Vladar they have at a -3,05 GSAx and a GSAA of -6.93

Money puck is much less generous for Vladar and has him at a -6.1 goals saved above expected and they're much MORE generous for Markstrom and have him at just -0.6 goals saved above expected.

I'm not sure why these two sites deviate heavily for some goalies in their GSAx stats. Evolving hockey had Mackenzie Blackwood as just below breaking even both of his first two years in the league in 18-19 and 19-20, where he had an above league average save percentage. But for 19-20, money puck had him I think at 5th best in the league in GSAx. And yet he was just below breaking even on evolving hockey that year.

This is terrible even for a dead angle goal standards. He’s Just so dumb and slow and clueless and very casually about it all.

Softy of the night is this Vladimir Tarasenko goal on Carter Hart

Knew I had to give softy of the night. Looked like a pretty lower percentage shot that should have hit the goalie.

Tarasenko’s stick kind of makes contact with Ristolainen’s stick, a little like that OT winner Seattle scored on Blackwood earlier in the year.
