Softy of the night is this Thomas Chabot goal on Cam Talbot

This was just awful and it was the game winner. Might have deflected wayyyy far out, but it didn’t change it up a whole lot. The other goal he allowed to Chabot in this game was a bad one also.

Softy of the night is this Stamkos goal on Mike Smith

I’m really tired of giving Mike Smith the softy of the night (I’m sure it’s either him Or Koskinen that lead in them since 18-19 and they didn’t play on the same team during the first year of that) but there was really nothing else more deserving of it than this one.

@Bleedred Can't wait to read your thoughts on the OT goal Grubauer gave up against Boston tonight ;) . I thought that was an atrocious goal.
Nah, bro. That goal only happened because Grubauer plays for Seattle an expansion team. Well you see, that would have never have happened in Colorado because they play way better defense than to allow their goalies to face a very difficult, high percentage shot like that! It wouldn’t have happened in Washington either! They wouldn’t have allowed such a difficult shot like that. Neither of those teams would have allowed their goalie to face such a GREAT shot like that and lethally high danger shot like that, especially not in overtime.

But seriously, spoiler alert. That’s softy of the night. I just got done watching that one. I really thought Saros might have the softy of the night. That BUM Johansson from Florida had some good material too, but of course Grubauer gets yet another. Mike Smith or Mikko Koskinen were in today.

Sad part is he played a pretty good game before that WEAK OT winner. Faced 39 shots. No chance on the first two goals. The first goal was even batted into the net right in front of him by his own teammate.

Then he lets that TRASH goal in.

Stars vs Predators: 1 goal against Oettinger, 1 stoppable. 1 goal against Saros, 1 stoppable.

Flames vs Canucks: 3 goals against Markstrom, 1 stoppable. 4 goals against Vladar in relief, 1 stoppable. 1 goal against Demko, 0 stoppable.

Bruins vs Kraken: 2 goals against Ullmark, 0 stoppable. 3 goals against Grubauer, 1 stoppable.

Islanders vs Sharks: 3 goals against Sorokin, 0 stoppable. 3 goals against Reimer, 2 stoppable.

Yeah I caught the highlights and thought he played a pretty solid game. But that OT one was really bad lol. No other way to slice it.

I seriously wonder if Grubauer can hit 60 goals stoppable this year? I think the most I counted in a season was when Koskinen and Jones tied for I think it was either 52 or 53 in 18-19? The other two years I’ve done this were Covid shortened.

Softy of the night is this Nino Niederreiter goal on Berube

He first coughs it up, then he ends the sequence by allowing a nasty leaker from a dead angle behind the net.

I really wanna do a compilation for softy of the night of all the BAD goals in that 17 goal (all on goalies, 0 were empty nets) game between Toronto and Detroit, because there were some downright pathetic ones. But my phone is gonna blow up from posting each of those videos, so I'll wait until tomorrow when it's charged. I officially give Jack Campbell the proper softy of the night though. I think you could choose any of those 3 really bad ones on him.

Softy of the night is this Sam Gagner goal on Jack Campbell

I could have really given him the softy of the night on at least two others, but this one was the worst because of the giveaway and the pass to Gagner was absolutely perfect. This might have been the assist of the night also.

Last night’s game only happens once every 10 years or so. And in that case I feel should it should be celebrated more

So here are the 8 goals I counted stoppable out of the 17 scored in that game. I already posted 1 of them. Here are the 7 remaining.

Lucas Raymond on Jack Campbell

I would say this was the most forgivable of any goal I counted stoppable in this game, but it’s still a rebound and the 5-hole is still wide open when he had more than enough time to recover. I just don’t think he closed it down quick enough.

Filip Hronek on Jack Campbell

Slow, weird floater from the point. No deflection and really no screen. What a joke goal this was.

Joe Veleno on Jack Campbell

Another joke goal from a dead angle over by the boards. This one goat him yanked.

Nylander on Nedeljkovic

What the f*** man? Wayyyyyyyyy off his angle.

Marner on Greiss

This one deflects a little bit off a skate but not by much. I don’t think it was possibly going wide like the announcer did.

Marner again on Greiss

The moving screen really shouldn’t have been a factor here. It sneaks right through and under his glove arm.

Lucas Raymond on Mrazek

Don’t wanna hear about a screen on this one either. Just a really weak, soft, bad shot the goes through the 5-hole. This puck hardly even left the ice.

Softy of the night is this Jacob Chychrun goal on Eric Comrie

I don’t always give a stoppable goal for a one timer from here and at the very least tend to be forgivable enough to not give a play like this the softy of the night even when I count it stoppable, as the goalie is sliding and from to post and trying to close up the 5-hole before the puck comes through. But this one just looks really bad. And it really just stuck out to me the entire night. This puck barely leaves the ice too.

And holy shit I have Comrie down for 12 goals stoppable and he’s only allowed 24 on the season. This is one of the rare instances I have someone down for 50% of the goals against as stoppable, but he’s still played very limitedly this year with only 9 starts and 10 games played. I think that percentage would go down quite a bit if he played more, but his save percentage probably would as well. I can’t see him being equal or better than Hellebuyck in save percentage if he played a significant number of games. He’s still just an .894% in his entire NHL career which is still only 19 games and 17 starts, but he’s at .914% for this year.

2 more stoppable goals on Grubauer last night.

I now got him for 42. Next in line is Koskinen and Hellebuyck tied with 33. No doubt Vejmelka would have been in second by now if they hadn't benched him over a week ago and he's only played 2 games in the last 2.5 weeks. He's in fourth place with 32. Then Fleury and Nedeljkovic are tied at fifth with 30.

If they don't stop playing him so much and give Driedger more starts then he's no doubt gonna come really close to 60 by seasons end, if not hit 60. And out of the four years I've done kept track of these, this is only the second season of 82 games. The first year I did this was an 82 game season and I remember Martin Jones and Koskinen both tied for the league lead and that number was either 52 or 53. It was one of those two numbers. I still have those (as well as every year and playoffs, although my 2020 playoff data was a bit messed up) in my emails, so I can always look it up.

It's hard to see Grubauer not winning the stoppable goal Jennings this year, unless he only plays about 5 or 6 more games this year. Hellebuyck could also come close, just because of how many games he plays. His percentage is fine (26.4%) and better than the league average, but he's finished 2 of the last 3 seasons allowing the most goals of any goalie in the league and he's pacing that way for this season as he's allowed more goals than anybody else, but that's also a symptom of playing A LOT of games and not an indictment on his personal play. Koskinen, who probably has a worse percentage of any goalie that's played over a certain significant number of games (37.5%) could also challenge, but I figure if he gets blown up a lot they'll go back between him and Smith and maybe even Skinner and not let him play enough games. So I don't foresee him leading the league in most goals I've counted stoppable this year, no matter what happens to Grubauer.

Koskinen is currently the stoppable goal Vezina front runner though with 37.5% and then there's Grubauer at 35%.

The thing I'm wondering the most if anybody else can hit 42 before the month of March is over? That will be really interesting. I figure if Koskinen flirts with it, that means he's not playing well and getting lit up a lot and he won't be playing enough. They'll be going with Smith or even Skinner as they're not dead and buried like Seattle, who has nothing to lose by playing Grubauer 65%-75% of the time. And as the Jets finally come to terms with the fact that they're not making the playoffs, I expect Hellebuyck will see fewer games played also.

LOL Grubauer has started 40 (72.72%) of the Kraken's 55 games and has appeared in 41 (74.54%) of their 55 games. That's a complete TANK job.

And what do you know, good old Jon Gillies with 18 stoppable and 48 allowed. The same exact percentage (37.5%) as Koskinen. And ALL of those goals came with the Devils, as I didn't nail him on any of the 3 he allowed as a Blue. So that's 18 on 45 (40%!) as a Devil, since I knowwwwwww we love cherry picking and data snooping around here. From what I remember, I didn't nail on a single goal stoppable in the first 3 games he played, including the first 2 Devils games and 1 Blues game. So he went at least his first 9 goals without me counting one stoppable. So it's almost 50% of the goals he's allowed since his fourth game of the year are goals I'm counting stoppable.

Although I don't think you could say that he's played enough games to qualify for the stoppable goal Vezina and god help us if he ends the season playing enough games.

Goals against review for the February 28th, 2022 games

Canucks vs Devils: 6 goals against Halak, 2 stoppable. 2 goals against Daws, 1 stoppable.

Maple Leafs vs Capitals: 3 goals against Mrazek, 1 stoppable. 3 goals against Samsonov, 1 stoppable. 1 goal against Vanecek in relief, 0 stoppable.

Bruins vs Kings: 5 goals against Quick, 3 stoppable. 2 goals against Petersen in relief, 0 stoppable. Swayman gets the shutout

So that’s 23 goals scored on goalies, 8 were stoppable. That’s 35% of the goals scored were stoppable. Combined save percentages were .883%.
