Islands in the stream.
This times 10,000,000,000.

KK f***ed up big time. It’s been proven by any and all metrics including the eye test that this pair is toxic and suffers fatal brain shut downs at inopportune times.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.

This applies to running the stack line against top competition teams. It lessens overall opportunities and takes players out of games. In this case he took 13 19 28 out and doubled down on the useless Foegele and” I got eggs in my shoulder pads” McLoed and Perry who simply doesn’t work with the aforementioned useless players.
I can't even describe why anybody would keep up with Nurse/Ceci. But the stacking up against Barkov plays to the Panthers strength. All he has to do is play saw off shifts and when we have McDrai together thats huge for Barkov to just be allowed to cancel those shifts.

Barkov was really good in the game. Its a mistake to pair up against him.

Oilers have to be careful now. Because this not scoring feeling can really infect. Its what happened to Dallas. Its what happened to us the last time the Oilers faced Paul Maurice coached club.

The one thing that is the worst we could see tonight is the Oilers scoring zero goals despite pressing all game. Thats not good for psyche.

In purgatory
I’m a McLeod downer but I actually thought he looked ok tonight?

Was I blind?
You're not blind, but he ducked or dumped it prematurely multiple times, man. Plays die all the time when you throw it in with little to no pressure. What is that going to accomplish? If you at least eat a hit and get it in deep, you give your wingers a chance to pressure low. If you are afraid to get hit you throw it blindly, have it turn over in the neutral and they turn up with it quickly. It's the unwillingness, even in the f***ing cup finals, that is just so disgusting to see.

Yeah...the winger got beat as well.
The thing is Nurse is supposed to be covering the area where the Panther player got the puck.
Instead he is standing there wathcing Ceci battle along the boards.
He put himself in the most useless place possible. If he had at least went in and helped Ceci (still the wrong play but it might have helped retain possession) it would have been better than what he ended up doing.

Although the positioning was absolutely awful, the worst part of that was the sleepwalking with his stick at his side. He simply wasn’t engaged.

Totally unacceptable to have your focus lapse like that in a Stanley Cup Final. Even the most spaced out players find a way to dial it in in games like this, except our air head $9M anchor.

Take out Foegele too. I'm tired of watching him not use his size and make dumb assed passes. Lavoie must be seen as complete ass to not get a look so far with how shitty Foegele has played this postseason.
I thought he created a handful of good cycles below the goal line. Definitely not our worst forward.

I'd say take out Kane, who looked slow for much of that game. But we're going to need him to negate the Tkachuk and Bennett factor.

Not a terrible game by any means, but they've got their work cut out for them.

Outstanding game by Bob, got to tip your hat to that.

Oil carried the play, and the FLA forecheck doesn't look like anything they haven't seen before. Though they do do an outstanding job pressuring the point in the defensive zone.

No panic (yet). The goal of getting a split is very doable.

Still... I thought Ekholm-Bouchard looked slow, Nurse-Ceci looked dumb, though at least Kulak-Broberg did a great job keeping things in front of them and winning races. They need to swap back to the pairs from the end of Dallas.

As the guy in your avatar once said, shit leopards can’t change their spots.

With Skinner, he had no chance in either goal. Didn’t matter if he let in 1 or 4, when the guys in front of him get shutout, it’s not on the goalie.
Both goalies were good, Bobo is next level. The one thing the EC really had going on in playoffs is they seem to have all the best goalies. The only premium goalie we faced till now was Ott and he's not on this level.

Agreed its not on the goalie but if the goalies were reversed I could see Oilers scoring a handful. Is what it is. We know we lose the goalie battle going in. At least it wasn't the biggest story of why we lost.

I don’t blame skinner at all for this game. But one guy made big saves and the other one didn’t

Shrug. Need to get to Bob early next game
Other teams don't hesitate to shoot high on Skinner.

Surely the Oilers can do the same with Bobby.

Yeh that’s his passing lane. He’s in the right spot though, he’s supposed to be there when the puck is down low, but didn’t put his stick down to cover that lane. That’s an error for sure. Don’t know why he’s just standing there puck watching and not doing standard defence stuff like having your stick in the lane.

Bob stole the game despite the Oilers playing really well.

Two ways to look at it now: Either Bob won't be able to do that again and we win the next game if the Oilers keep it up OR the panthers played pretty mediocre and came away with the W, terrible missed opportunity, don't think we'll see such a meh effort from Florida again.

I'll choose to be positive and hope the boys can solve Bobrovsky next game. Also don't ever play Nurse & Ceci together ever again. It hasn't worked, it didn't work tonight and it never will work. Just go with the pairings that allowed us to beat Dallas ffs.

True but I don't think it will happen.

Am I the only guy who thinks that Drai is looking less than ordinary. for the last 6 games?
I dont think it will happen either.

Drai wasnt sharp in this game. He wasnt alone though.
Lots of players not at their best tonight and yet they still outplayed Florida for the most part.

Gretzky looked great tonight. He's lost some weight and that puffy look he had for so long. Hair transplant and wrinkle remover too I think.

He could suit up for game 2?
Still looked wasted though lol. Or maybe it’s Florida Sun burn.

The boys brought game and created chances all game. Didn’t cash in on the chances but should be luckier next game.
Minor tweaks only needed but I think we’re set for this series.
Get the split and head for home.
