Is there a face to a name we're supposed to know? Was he elsewhere in the industry previously? I'd never heard of Kevin Francis before this, but I also don't go on hockeybuzz.

Not that I’m aware of. He always claims that people who know him know that he’s credible, yet very few seem to know him, and anyone credible (people like Mendes, etc.) straight up ignore him and his bombshell stories. It’s also hard to take someone seriously when they write for Hockeybuzz despite being this “mega-insider”, write like a child, and make bold claims like “the things that my Hockey Canada sources have told me about DJ. You wouldn’t believe it!!”. He has no ounce of credibility and thinks he’s a big shot despite no one knowing him.

Huh, weird. Well, as soon as you step in to that Hockeybuzz role you're sacrificing your credibility. Maybe that's not fair in every instance, but it comes with the territory.

That’s exactly it. Hockeybuzz alone ruins any credibility that he might have. Even besides that, he has very odd tendencies in his writing and on Twitter that scream lack of credibility.

Did anyone else besides Travis Yost use hockeybuzz as a stepping stone to working at a legit network? Love him or hate him, thats impressive lol.

Ya that was pretty poor writing. Read like a post on here.

He had that advantage of using analytics and statistics, so it wasn't just gossip or rumors like their site seems to do first and foremost. Impressive nonetheless.

oh for sure. He's probably the first 'analytics' guy i can remember. Just the fact places like TSN were able to get past 'worked for hockeybuzz' on the resume is huge lol.

Don't think he worked 20 years for the sens, he probably worked 20 years with Melnyk in some capacity, even that might be a stretch. Not sure where the 20 years comes from but it isn't supported by a quick look at his linkedin profile which suggests he worked with the team for the last 9 months.
Yeah I must have misread lol. But the point remains that Lajoie was a talk radio host in Toronto for an all sports station. I know many put the hashtag so people can find his post and comment on the state of the Leafs. I am not sure what the uproar is about, but maybe him leaving signals a regime change...

For sure. Quite the achievement on his part. Thought Eklund permanently botched any opportunity for anyone on that site with the whole Sportsnet "appearance" on deadline day.

what a dumb era that was lol. People would rather watch a monkey not rly do anything on TSN than watch a moron hiding in the shadows breaking no trades.

Ya the whole idea of insiders is supposed to be that they sometimes get hits and that it's based on getting inside information. When you're just there for stories that never come true, it becomes obvious you're just guessing. Of course humans would be drawn to such drama though, we're dumber than we like to pretend, well, some of us anyways.

Do you really not understand the uproar about an employee openly cheering for a rival?

I saw Brady cheering for Calgary…. No big deal.

I heard coach Smart say he was cheering for Tampa players the other day.

This is nothing - how do you expect a guy who works in Toronto media to not talk about the leafs.

I think Trevor Shackles from the Silver Sens site wrote there for a bit.

I think the position is a radio host talking about a local team isn't cheering them on and including hashtags is done not to express his personal support, but more to increase engagement with his tweets from followers.

I think the biggest problem is one of optics; as the marketing director for this team, he probably shouldn't be identifying himself as a representative of this team (it was the first thing listed on his profile) on the same twitter account he's pontificating on what the leafs should be doing and putting leafs supporting hashtags.

Honestly, if he didn't have Sens Marketing director in his Twitter bio, I'd have no idea he was with this team, and the optics issue would be greatly minimized, but seeing leafsforever or whatever it was posted by the right under his bio saying Sens Marketing Director is a bad look.

Bobby Ryan and Mark Methot both questioned how Brady was putting himself out there. They both recognized the optics aren't great, though acknowledged they'd support their family, they'd likely be doing it from the back of a box, out of sight.

There's certainly an optics issue at play. To some it's important, to others it's a non issue. As someone in marketing though, it seems like an odd misstep

The game has certainly changed. You would never have seen something like Brady on his bender in an opposing teams colors cheering emphatically 20 years ago.

Forget 20 years ago, Can you imagine if PK started cheering on the Bruins or Vegas because Malcolm played there?

I must be out of touch since I couldn't care less about Brady cheering on his brother sitting alongside his family.

I'd roll my eyes at anyone who tells me the optics are bad. Brady doesn't owe us anything considering how good and hard he plays for Ottawa; I'm not going to chastize him for cheering his brother on when he is done for the year.
