It's a new formula I've come up with, I call it the Shoresi Rating. Now is the time where we can finally see what Blake is made of, hopefully he can do better than this summers haul in free agency which is why we are here. Time to trade out from under the redundancy on this roster.

I like the Shoresi math.

I think the main reason Blake didn't do anything over the summer, is the same reason Lombardi didn't do anything over his last summer. Neither guy trusted the main players on this team anymore. Not until they proved it again. Not that there was much to bring in over either summer anyway.

Lombardi believed in this roster at the 2015 deadline, because they were still defending champs, and they burned him. He even said I'll invest in you again today by getting Lucic for 15-16, and they burned him. He did nothing in the 2016 summer(I doubt he ever actually thought he was going to sign Lucic), because there was no buying in for cheap at that point. Made some minor moves at the 2017 deadline, maybe it sparks the roster, but they had nothing.

There was no reason for Blake to do anything different until they proved it to him, and he hasn't, because they haven't. Can't sign a free agent to a big deal, not that there's much in free agency to sign. Can't make a significant trade without sending some cap space back the other way, which doesn't really solve the depth problem, unless some young guys step up, but that's the case whether you make a trade or not.

All I know is that I'm gonna be pissed if we miss the first 10 minutes of the game today because of NBCSN.

This team is not fun to watch. Having the Kopitar play 23+ and top pair playing close to 30 minutes a night isn't helping during this stretch of games either. The 4th line and bottom pair are getting 6-9 minutes a game. The top lines and pairings will be completely exhausted if this squad even makes the playoffs. Quick hasn't been great the last couple games and it shows how good he has to be in order to get W's.

It's not about Quick not being great, or how good he has to be. He mainly has to not do whatever he's been doing on those early game 5 hole goals. If he can start making that basic save again consistently, then we can worry about how necessarily great he has to be to drag the roster along in games.

Quick gets by on making enough routine saves, and then hopefully making one spectacular save to keep a team at 2 goals instead of 3 goals. If the basic save isn't there, there's only so many crazy saves a goalie is going to come up with, unless his name is Hasek.

Stevens does shorten the bench a lot, although it might have something to do with the starts the team has. What is it, 18 of 45 games where they've scored first?

It's like this during every slump: The team can't score so Quick tries to do too much. ....and then he breaks his stick

Turn out the lights, the party's over. I'll give the Kings credit for the start of the season. They played some exciting hockey, scored some goals and looked amazing for the majority of the season. Then the Kings team I was expecting all along showed up and now it's back to not being fun being a Kings fan, the games are dreadful to watch. All perimeter play, not a single forward on the roster has the ability to dangle a defensemen or put on any kind of move around a goalie minus Kempe and he's glued to the bench due to nerd hockey stats. Puck possession minus the ability to score goals equals losing hockey. It's a new formula I've come up with, I call it the Shoresi Rating. The Kings had odd man break after odd man break last night, they just didn't score. How's that for nerd math?

Loss =/= boring perimeter play. I could show you a shot chart but that sounds like it would be offensive to you.

A couple more losses and we're going to be going into draft mode.
Which is where most of us thought they'd be at the start of the season. The impressive start to the season was nice but maybe they are who we thought they were. Which wouldn't be the worst thing if they can get away from a contract like Gaborik at the deadline and add another Vilardi like pick at the draft.

In all honesty, I think most of us deep down inside knew that this would be a trying year. Their hot start was unexpected. The current results are more in line with what we were expecting to see.

This is a one-line team. One line carried this team through the first half, and when they're not producing, you see the results. This team has zero depth throughout the lineup, and that isn't the fault of Rob Blake or Luc Robitaille. We can thank Deano and his misguided decisions since the summer of 2014, and the lack of player development.

It's been a while since anyone they drafted out of the first round has been able to become anything more than an average player.

You can surely blame Blake and Luc as well for not identifying that this was a one line team and that they considered it a cup contender. Ha. We all knew black hole was the most likely destination. The farm was barren we knew it after Lombardi went for it all year after year. The fact that Blake and Luc didn't also realize that and take appropriate steps also reflects on them.

In what way do you mean?

They didn't make any significant additions and mostly stuck with the same roster as last season, with a few low cost additions added in.

The makeup of the team hasn't changed. The only new faces up front are Iafallo and Mitchell, and the only new outsider added to the blueline was Folin, and Kuemper as the backup.

That seems to indicate to me that they weren't all that confident in this group, and they didn't go "all in" with trying to make any significant additions to the lineup.

Tells me they wanted to see what they had as well, I can't imagine they would have gone 'all in' at the beginning of the season on the heels of firing DL. But I think we'll get a better view heading towards the deadline here if any future assets depart. I think Blake has done a good job so far managing what we do have and making trades for pieces we aren't going to miss later really (i.e. the King pick for Mitchell, Cammy for Jokinen). Can't really say I blame him for holding down the status quo.

I also don't think this team is going to continue hurtling out of a playoff spot though, gonna be a pain in everyone's butts right down till the end as usual.

No surprise. One of the dumbest things Brown has ever done and a tangible representation of the team's frustration that was, of course, at one of the worst times in the game.

True, they had a lot of odd man rushes and Gaborik had at least two shots from the slot he usually buries. The Kings were not lacking in opportunities last night, the Penguins gave them plenty.

Exactly, and as long as Blake is a seller instead of a buyer at the deadline, I think he will be managing the player personnel properly.

Also true, but I will evaluate Blake on his actions, not the lip service he and Robitaille are paying to the fan base. Again I will say, if Carter comes back and plays well, it is time to see what the Kings can get in return for him. Carter can help a team like Nashville get over the hump, and the Kings would get a significant return.

I've said since last season that the Kings should move Carter.
