I said this weekend would make or break. This was the best chance for a win. Really looks like a broken season come Sunday night.

Bright side is I embarrassed the shit out of a group of Pens fans and their idiot Ducks fan tagalong that was running his mouth all game. Hope that p***y reads these boards so his dad can question my toughness again before calling over to one of his friends to beat me up. I believe PMs are in the top right corner.

Heaven help me if we trade Vilardi and 1St for someone and get bounced in the first round or miss the playoffs all together.

look lets cut the crap, negative / positive etc

the reality on day one of the season was that we alllllllll knew (even the ones that buy a little umbrella when the sky is clearly falling) that we couldn't beat SJ/ANA/CGY/EDM (also ARZ)

as the season progressed, we realized we CAN beat EDM this year, but that has been replaced with we CAN'T beat VGK

therefore, we can't beat SJ/ANA/CGY/VGK (also ARZ)

now, don't be fooled, this is still a good team... put us in the other three divisions and we can make a case

however, the Pacific is this black hole of melancholy and despair for LA

point is, i really didn't want LA to finish 2nd or 3rd in the Pacific and face a near guarantee first round exit

and if 8th means we'd face Vegas...

let's aim for lucky #7 in the standings and take on either NSH WIN STL (or CHI) to a 7 game series

that's the thought process i had in my head from the beginning of the season

we can do this! aim for 7!

now how's THAT for positivism !?!?

Jon Rosen is quiet tonight on twitter after the Kings lost.Must be laying low from the negative post that would follow his tweets lol.

This loss wouldn't sting as much if they weren't 1-4-2 at home against the division. Those 7 games are still why they're out of a playoff spot right now, not tonight's game. This is only the 12th regulation loss out of 33 games without Carter, when not counting those 7 specific games.\

Edit: Or, 32 games, since Carter played in that OT loss to Calgary.

Haha, try to get into that Central bracket  Edit: and hope a Central team gets into the Pacific bracket and downs the Pacific. Genius!

It is really bizarre that after all this time we've built a team that can compete OUTSIDE the Pacific but not INSIDE.

He's off for a day or two doing some broadcast in Michigan.

Yup, but the Kings have been sub-.500 since their big win streak, so it was catching up steadily.

The first two tracks in this ↓ clip sound like how it feels watching the Kings right now.

Well time to break out my "well I will save the cost of playoff tickets mantra :)"

Actually they played a pretty solid game tonight.

My god Gabby half the people in this thread could have buried a couple of those shots.
For a team with a losing streak you cannot give up such a soft goal on the first shot, brutal.

Iafallo has mad skills, hoping next year he breaks out like Kempe did this year.

That penalty against Toffoli was brutal, it was behind the net and the guy out by the freaking read line calls it.

Right now does not seem like Jeff "Carpathia" Carter is not going to arrive in time before the Kings sink

Its supposed to be a good draft year right?

At home. Last year was a mess all around, but since last year, they're 10-10-3 on the road against the division. 4-3-1 this year. You want to break even on the road. That's the goal. More than that is great, but can't be expected.

At home? 7-11-3 since last year, including 1-4-2 this year. They're healthier this year than last year. They have Quick, and Kopitar, and Toffoli, and Brown has risen from the dead. No Carter, but they're healthier overall, yet they have a worse record in those specific games.

If this team really falls apart, I don't think I can watch hockey any more.

The modry days were bad enough. I can't go back to the pre Kopitar days. That was bad enough. Can't do it it again lol in all honesty.

You’ll be missed, but we’ll soldier on somehow.

The worst part of all this is that it turns out Milbury was right about us all along

Don’t be stupid. Milbury has never been right about anything.

I was watching that game thinking Iafallo played a lot like Guentzel and Sheary.

And yeah I was less upset about this one because we were very much in the game. Difference was not burying some fantastic opportunities and having some not so fantastic opportunities buried on us. That's how things seem to go when you're losing. But at least the play is trending back up. I know it looks bleak but it's sort of back to that Brown quote about how at the end of a winning streak you're winning some games you probably shouldn't but at the end of a losing streak you're losing games you should win. Tonight looked more like the latter.

Quick is aging, Brown won't have another season like this one, Kopitar is great this year, but let's not forget last season. You're asking a lot for one of the current youngsters to fill the hole in the top 4, and Doughty's contract situation looms large.

This situation was so predictable.

Since drafting Kopitar and Quick almost 13 years ago the Kings have drafted and developed one high end player.

The awful drafting forced the Kings to go for it by trading future picks and assets for Carter, Richards and Penner and only Carter was able to be a long term impact player for the team. But with Kopitar, Quick and Doughty entering their primes those were reasonable moves for players who in theory should have provided atleast 4 years of quality play. The post-Cup trades are what have really set us back though.

I know the usual suspects will say “Monday Morning QB” but the reality is the Kings had ample chances to draft impact players. Jakob Voracek in 2007, Erik Karlsson in 2008, OEL in 2009, Tarasenko in 2010, Barzal in 2015. Hitting on one of those would have made a world of difference.

And K17 I agree that now may be a decent time to consider moving Carter. Love him as a player but he is in a weird spot with his age

Tonight we saw the star treatment in full effect. 1st, Malkin spears Brown in the nuts and all 4 refs miss it, even though the puck is right behind them at the point. 2nd Crosby picks Brown as he goes for the puck knocking him down which should've been interference .If the right call is made, the boarding major never happens because Schultz touches it right after.

If you move Carter then you move the whole core and get what you can.

Refs let the game get away from them. Pens knew they weren't getting called for anything. Hell, on the Brown clip, you can see Letang spear Brodzinski. And to let all of that go only to have the back ref kill the game on the Toffoli call...awful.

Malkin cannot come to the west coast without doing something major-worthy and getting away with it and I'm f***ing tired of it.

Doughty no doubt stays a King and the ownership will throw money at him.Browns play has picked up due to style of play imo.

Quick is older but so is Lundqvist and still playing at a high level.Quick can't be the savior every night and needs defensive help.Kopi and Carter I still have faith.

Now, if Blake isn't going to make trades to fill the holes on the roster to make them a competitive cup team, then I agree blow it up and trade the core.

"I just want to win cups."

- Drew Doughty

Player safety has to be able to suspend these folks.Maybe give teams the right to have two plays per game to be reviewed?
