I don't think so. But he looks so much better than he did before Ranford.

I think the Kings could try and flip for a nice return, especially with Petersen getting closer.

Hopefully for a better return than what we got for Jones. That left a mark.

Oh, and M&M were fantastic tonight. They can do that when they aren't against the other teams top lines, it also helps that Montreal is tiny.

I also liked how Stevens platooned Phaneuf and Forbort with Drew tonight. I know that was to reduce the pressure on LaDue, but it gave Forbort a breather here and there from top competition and I think this was his best game for a while.

Hence they got outplayed, not dominated. The habs had numerous good chances, more possession, forced a lot of turnovers.

Kings defense was bad, Campbell was great. The Kings were lucky that they converted on the few chances they had.

I'm happy for the win. But this is the Habs, they shouldn't be getting outplayed by them.

they blew out pitt a few days ago.

No power play goals. First goal on a rush. Second goal on a turnover. Third goal kind of a lucky swat. So basically this is the King's MO for even strength goals.....makes sense if they keep getting out shot. Why play in the offensive zone when it's more fun playing the puck in your own zone?

I like that Jimmy Fox called out the refs for their poor / one-sided calls tonight.
I dunno, reffing did suck but I don’t think it was so one sided, drew totally boarded someone in the first, right in from of the ref and no call, I thought a few non calls went LAs way in the first.

It's going to be tougher and tougher for Stevens to justify playing some of these veterans over younger players. It doesn't matter that JAD is a junior aged player, if he is one of LA's top 12 forwards (and he is), he needs to be up and not sent down until his junior team is eliminated. Can't think about down the road if you think you are contenders, and Kopitar and Doughty aren't getting any younger. The Kings are simply a better team with JAD playing than they are with Thompson, Clifford, Lewis (so far). I think the same could be argued for Wagner.
I get the vet mentality and all that jazz but Wagner and JAD need to be playing over Thompson and Clifford, gud pros or not.

So, so happy for Campbell. And JAD. Hopefully the guys can rally around the youthful energy in spite of other issues. Still no identity, still bleeding shots, but a decisive victory is a nice step in any fashio, especially in getting Kempe and Carter's engines started.

Re: Campbell making Quick obsolete, yeah, we should definitely be making those statements after 10 NHL games over 6 NHL seasons.

Yup,

It's the NHL's version of the circle of life, some guys who were good pros get phased out for younger, hungrier and better players (see Moreau and Hunter)

The tough thing with Thompson is that he is an effective PK'er and he has been good at winning faceoffs. But eventually you get to the point where those two things just don't make up for not being an NHL caliber player in any other facet of the game, that is what ended up doing Stoll in.

I thought Clifford had a couple good shifts ironically in terms of keeping possession. But that shouldn't be all the Kings should be getting out of him.Thompson is only good at face offs. How does that alone warrant a roster spot ? It doesn't.

domi skated backwards into that "board" while looking over his shoulder and the ref saw exactly that which is why he shook his head after

Can Campbell make Quick expendable? Small sample size so far, sure.
I love Quick, but Quick's age is making Quick expendable. If Blake can trade him and get rid of the remaining years on his deal it would be a wise move.

Quick's contract runs through the end of the 2022-23 season. Does anyone think the Kings are going to win another cup with him in goal, and with the current roster? With 5 more seasons including this one on his deal, if a goalie on a contender gets injured this season, Blake should be on the phone.

Quick is the one guy that is engaged and battles every moment he's out there. He's the guy I want to retire a King and have a jersey in the rafters one day.

Campbell will never make Quick expendable , that title belongs to Petersen and he has been deemed the goalie of the future . I think the last 2 years of Quicks contract he will be the backup or splitting games with Petersen and Petersen will eventually take over

Kings may have been outshot, but they almost doubled up on grade-A chances. According to Los Angeles Kings @ Montreal Canadiens, 2018-10-11, they had the better of the high-quality chances 12-7 at 5-on-5.

The shot map shows this in better detail.

Why would he? It would be the same situation. Quick will still not be going anywhere. Plus Petersen will have to be signed after this year. Blake will have no leverage in trading Campbell, who will still be the backup once Quick comes back. He's not going to overtake Quick this year. Got nothing for Kuemper. Didn't get too much for Bernier. Didn't get much for Scrivens. Didn't get much for Budaj. They'll get something when he's eventually traded, but it won't be a top 10, top 15 pick or anything. Probably not even a 1st.

We can sort of see how things might go. Quick is locked in. Nobody needs an aging goalie that gets injured with a decent cap hit. Campbell has a 1 way deal next year. Petersen probably signs a 2 or 3 year deal, 2-way for 19-20, then 1-way for the next 1 or 2 years as Quick's backup. Campbell gets traded between the deadline this year at the extreme, or the deadline next year. Although he will be a UFA when his contract is done after next season, so the earlier you trade Campbell, might be better. Especially if he's playing well this year. You want to trade him at his height, not wait too long. By this year's deadline might be the right time to do it.

They waited too long to trade Jones. Should've been dealt at the 2014 draft.

Carter looked great last night. Glad to see him finding his legs and hands. Keep him with JAD and Amadio, please. Hopefully they roll those forward lines for a bit, and cycle Wagner in for Clifford every other games

I still think Thompson has a place on the roster, but yeah he should be limited to about 10 minutes a night, on heavy PK and faceoff duties.
