I know a lot of places do their top 10 games of the year list around this time of year, I figured I'd list out my favorite games from 2022 in no particular order:

Elden Ring
God of War Ragnarok
Horizon Forbidden West
Pokemon Legends Arceus
Xenoblade 3
Live a Live (remake)
Chained Echoes (retro style RPG that just came out)

Thought there were more games from this year, but I can't remember any more than that. I loved Tales of Arise from last year. Plan on playing the Last of Us Remake once it goes on sale. I heard Calisto Protocol was a huge disappointment....really too bad since I was looking forward to that. Suppose I'll wait for the Dead Space remake.

I feel like at this point, you can’t write off a game until a year after release date. Too many games are pushed out too early and half done. Especially big name (AAA titles) games.

Ive never been into MMO mouses, i just us a final mouse phantom that i got years ago, that has 2 keybinds on the side of the mouse and thats it, and it still works pretty well. The keybindings themselves arent an issue they just feel cluttered, like pressing V to use that ear piece thing, then hitting G to track and enemy with the same device. Or holding TAB to go into your wepoaon/ arrow satchel and using your mouse to go through it, then using LMB to craft that certain type of arrow. Maybe i worded it poorly.

Yuck. Tab and G are not keys I want to be using very often. The V key I could get used to thumbing but B or N is more ideal for me.

I use a 2 thumb button mouse now. If I played HDZ (or really any console import) with a mouse I'd probably want my old 6 thumb button mouse if it still worked.

My basic keyboard/mouse setup is:
WASDQE for movement
spacebar is jump
L shift and L ctrl is my crouch/stealth/dodge
mouse wheel scroll is zoom in and out
mouse wheel click is move the camera as needed or toggle sprint on/off (game dependent)
L/R mouse buttons are the main actions.
R for reload
F is action of some sort
M is map

For HDZ (trying to remember all the controls) I'd put:
the earpiece as the webpage back mouse button (my most used thumb button).
the wheel thing as the webpage forward mouse button.
(IIRC those were the secondary actions I used the most)

These are just the pc controls that I'm comfortable and accustomed to using.

On the contrary, I think it's deserved and we shouldn't treat it as acceptable. Release the game in a (near) finished state, or I'm going to move on and never give it another chance. (cough battlefield, call of duty, halo, etc. cough).

My top list of the year:

Yes, you read that correctly. I'm still hoping Sports Story will take the lone spot on my list.

I can't stand the switch controls, but I really want to play xenoblade 3.

Horizon was my favorite game to come out this year.

I'm cheap so most games are out for a long time before I'll buy them. It's kind of a win-win for me doing this, pay less and get a working game.

Oh, I never meant I found it acceptable. I usually don’t buy games when they first come it fit this very reason. I was more just commenting on the state of the industry.

Dead Space remake is legit. Get the same feeling of unease and nervousness slowly stomping around the Ishimura as I did so many years ago... and it looks so good.

I'll definitely be playing, but going to wait for a bit til I finish some of the other things I've got going right now.

I don't always remember what the exact genre is called (turn based strategy I think?) but one that surprised me was the Tactics Ogre remake/update that came out a month or two ago. Really fun and a good difficulty...hard but not annoyingly hard. Like this game so much more than the Triangle Strategy new game that came out last year.

Also, in the same type of game type I picked up Fire Emblem Engage right when it came out. Same type of deal, turn based strategy. Fire Emblem Three Houses was actually the first FE game I played and I thought it was amazing. Having a lot of fun with this one too. It's kind of funny, it feels like the dialogue in this one is so much weirder than the last one and some of the side conversations are eye-rollers but the story is interesting so far for the most part. Just like a lot of the reviews said, it looks like they concentrated on making the combat better and that part is definitely an upgrade.

Lots of games I'm going to get this year. Dear god. RE4 Remake, Like a Dragon Ishin, Octopath Traveler 2, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, new Zelda (!), Final Fantasy XVI. Looks like another good year.

Ogre Tactics is a game I've been looking at. It seems to be a Final Fantasy Tactics (one of my all time favorite games) type of game. I'm waiting until for it to be around $30 before I buy it. FE is another one that has piqued my interest due some of the reviews I've seen.

I'm in the minority, but I don't like the Souls type of games. There is a new Assassins' Creed coming out that is more like the old games and not a huge open world.

I'm really looking for a PvE MMO (on pc) that I can sink a stupid amount of time into.

WoW Classic ;-)

WoW Classic ;-)

I've sunk too much time in WoW already. I played it with (and for) the wife, She's a terrible player. So many, many, many, many deaths (completely avoidable) with her have completely soured me on that game.

I'll spend a couple month every couple of years played SWG classic on emulated server, but you can solo most everything in that game (I like killing the dragons).

What about FF14? I heard the game is pretty good. It's been a hot minute since I've played it (was around the first expansion came out).

I tried it when it first came out (I remember being excited about it) and it wasn't good. IIRC think they completely revamped it since then, but I haven't looked at it since. Maybe I will give it another chance.

Yeah, I played it when it first came out as well, like you, I was underwhelmed. When I picked it back up around the expansion, it was definitely more rounded out. Played for a few months. Pretty good game.

Forspoken's graphics look really cool in the previews. It's been a mixed bag for reviews of it, so I'm leery of dropping the money on it.

I heard the gameplay is absolutely horseshit. I would wait a bit to grab it to see if they flesh out any of those issues.

FF14 is a good one. And yes, they completely revamped it after the terrible first version (and actually incorporated those changes into a cool story beat). Haven't played in a long time though, but I've heard nothing but excellent things about all expansions. It is, however, very much a FF game with all of the typical JRPG bits and storytelling which, personally, does wear on me after a while.

I'll get roasted for this on a hockey board but my son got me into NBA2k23 lately. There is a ton of stuff to do offline for a noob like me that sucks at the game too much to play online. But the offline content and the card collecting has been a lot of fun. I wish EA would do the same with NHL and offer more offline content. I'd play.

I got a 98 Justin Jefferson with 98 speed from one of my “choose one” field pass packs in madden ultimate team. It was between him and 98 Jalen Hurts. This guy is like a cheat code. He’s fantastic

Been playing Ghost of Tsushima the last few days. Bought it when it was new and played on the PS4 pro. Kind of bounced off of it fairly quickly as I get open world burnout pretty easily. Now playing without that burnout on a PS5 and loving it. I'm not sure it looks too much better on the 5, it was a really gorgeous game even on the PS4,but it runs so smoothly on the 5. The visuals, the music... it really does feel like you're playing a game created and directed by Kurasowa. Might be the first game I'll actually stay interested in to the end since I beat Elden Ring.

The standoff mechanic is awesome

It's so much fun. I bought the 'upgrade' or whatever for PS5 that includes the new area and I was playing it on the 'realistic' difficultly where you pretty much die if you get hit but I haven't gone back to it in a while. I did beat it once already, though, before that.

In a similar vein, kinda, I just finished the new 'Yakuza' game Like a Dragon: Ishin. Pretty much all of the characters including Kiryu from the Yakuza series but back in the samurai days. It was a lot of fun. Typically don't like the fighting in Yakuza games but this one was enjoyable with the sword/gun combos.

I have the PS+ (or whatever it's called now) they have the upgrade for it as part of that subscription. It was one of the selling points for me to shell out the money for it. The Yuffi expansion for FFVII was the other main selling point.

I haven't gotten around to playing Ghost yet due to getting sucked into other games. Destroy all Humans remaster is the game I'm currently playing.

I know the FFVII remake stuff was somewhat divided when it came to what people thought but I had a ton of fun playing that game. I tried to beat it on Hard but ended up stopping after losing on a really long boss battle try. I thought the expansion was really fun too. Looking forward to the next installment whenever that ends up coming out...next year I think? We'll see what XVI is like later this year.

Can't wait for the RE4 remake. Almost there.

This game is the only reason I bought a PS4 lol. It was amazing.
